By your logic, us Soviets are allowed to bring in a T-44 (which also didn't exist at this point) to counter all that powerful German armour...
Can't the Soviets be good at one thing for once...? |
Still waiting for adequate answer on rear armour and why Germans have MG bunkers and not Soviets... |
Good work lads! Perfect circle! |
ZiS-2 57mm AT gun anyone...? |
At least some of them were equipped with skis as you can see in the last photo, great if you're ski troops. |
I think what needs to be considered with penals are their direct equivalent Pgrens. I never see a game without Pgrens, either spammed or just used. It's rare to see a game with Penals. Pgrens combine awesome AI which will drill through all Soviet units with the exception of doctrinal Shocks. Meanwhile they can also upgrade to shreks and be able to destroy most Soviet tanks in a couple of volleys whilst still having reasonable AI and gaining plenty of vet which will increase their AI.
Meanwhile, Penals have okay AI (it's too easy for the enemy to either run forward or rifle nade them or have an MG42 or be pgrens)and zero effective AT (satchel is too easy to dodge). Compare it to Pgrens and I think I know what comes out on top. Both units currently costing the same just takes the biscuit. |
Also, provide something for Soviets to deal with Elefants efficiently. Doctrinal Artillery is reasonable but the Doc Elefants come in also has recon and Stuka bomb strike, which can take out arty after one barrage, that is something that really needs to be looked at. As well as the general thing of heavy centre piece tanks also having super doctrinal arty call-ins etc... |

One of my favorite things is stealing t34s and ramming is2s and is152. I have 100 percent success rate with every ram ever attempted. If someone really wants to ram you, you cant easily stop them. But if someone is fighting you and then decides oh no lets ram, there is a low success rate due them already being at a disadvantage anyway.
That's because Soviet "heavy" armour is sh-t. Try penning a Tiger with T-34 and then try penning an IS with a P4 |
FWIW the effectiveness of Guards if you have some patience can't be understated. I've had 2-3 triple vet guards squads that have come up, waited for Panthers to attack and then alternated buttoning all the while blazing away with AT rifles, surprisingly effective, add in an SU-85 behind or SU-76M and a Panther is going down...
HOWEVER, the most significant problem as said before is that Soviets have absolutely no Mobile (i.e. turreted) AT (non-doctrinally ofc). It's ridiculous how easy it is for a Panther to simply blitz or just reverse out of an attack and the Soviets are hardpressed to pursue. Pretty much it makes attacking Soviet positions a giant Vet maker for German tanks and once they hit Vet 2 they become almost unstoppable... |
To me a great deal of things are okay but currently I think the way rear armour works is rubbish. Basically it makes flanking pointless because tanks like the T-34 which are forced to flank still can't pen very easily units like the Tiger from the rear. It's hilariously depressing going to all the trouble to flank a tiger (because ramming ain't an option, I want to give my tanks some vet at some point) and they just bounce off all day. Same goes for other German heavies. I'm not sure about Soviet heavies, since most german tanks seem to be able to pen their rears fine but that's probably my experience and isn't backed up by numbers. |
