Rome 1 has always been my favorite in the total war series, then medieval 2. This was the first actual gameplay trailer that I've seen, and I gotta say it looks fucking sick. Can't wait, consider me hyped. |
wrong, it is another mechanic designed to give germans more of an advantage, like they really need it.
? I don't really understand your reasoning here. The German dedicated AT infantry would be PGrens with Shreks, and if they lose 2 guys they become in risk of losing their weapons, same as guards.
But someone else said it best, they have a high chance of losing their weapons, because once you upgrade their mgs the squad is running around with 4 specialized guns, which means a high drop rate. Same reason why stormtroopers were so risky in vcoh with double shreks/stgs. |
I haven't tried stug vs KV8, it has better reload time than a P4 but does it also have better penetration? P4 is definitely faster, but as you say we shouldn't look at units in a vacuum, and if KV8 has any support its unlikely you'll be able to circle it. Most of the time a P4 would trade shots with the KV8 frontally and it seems to deflect an awful lot. Which as I said is fine if it wasn't instagibbing infantry. I wasn't comparing it to P4 btw (which is pretty balanced now as a generalist tank), more just saying how P4 isn't really a counter to it. You meed Panther or Tiger or Elefant to have a real shot of taking it down. If you're looking at a role comparison of a hard AI and light AT, compare it to say an ostwind - which granted has great AA but thats rarely useful in 1v1 - and you can see what I mean.... Yeah its 40/20 more, but doesn't require teching. Ostwind can't ignore AT guns and AT grenades, infantry can get away easily, the KV8 is worlds in front.
The Ostwind isn't the counterbalance to the KV8, there isn't really one for the Ostheer. The KV8 is doctrinal, and the doctrines it's in don't have guards, which is Soviets only reliable counter to t2, so it forces the soviets to lose early game advantage for the potential of the KV8 late game.
Ostheer on the other hand can build the Ostwind out of their t3 building, alongside the P4 which can kill the KV8 1v1 albeit slowly. Which isn't the point of the P4 vs the KV8, instead you should use it as a shield to persuade the Soviet player from not rushing your infantry for fear of losing the KV8. |
It's cause the KV8 is the soviets hardest counter to infantry, where it forces the German player to absolutely tech to armor or get demolished. It's like the reverse Elefant where you force the Soviet player to use combined arms to take it out since it can beat any tank if you maneuver it right.
That being said it does wayyy too much damage on retreat, but that's more of a problem with flame weapons in general, not just the KV8. |
The last guy kind of said it, but really it's a situational unit to get. It's good at countering soviet at guns, people who are camping buildings hard or even soviet snipers.
That being said it's not great against mobile conscripts or mobile tanks like T-70, T-34.
So basically there isn't a build that has it built into it, but situationally it's sweet. That incendiary round is dope at killing an AT wall. |
I think it's fine as it is now, it's a doctrinal ability that can be countered by another doctrinal ability, and it lasts significantly shorter than the British button did. Plus it's a lot easier to break now. |
They already said it, I just want to bump this cause it's really the shit. It's literally 5 dollars for like 10 triple A titles and all of the proceeds go to charity. And you don't even need to pay 5 dollars if you don't want the bonus titles. It's great games for a great cause, can't get any better than that. |
I'll stop being negative when the game is patched to being playable. I can't in good conscience promote a game to my friends that I get pissed off and frustrated at the balance of it. I didn't recommend SC2 to my friends until a few months into the game, because when it started it was dominated by cheesy strats.
Basically, people will come back to this game when they start hearing good things about it, which we could either lie and say the game is fine and then they'll leave again when they play it, or we could wait for better balance to start promoting it.
Not to be a negative nancy though. I think next patch should be the beginning of the beginning for this, given that they're focusing on early game and late game, which is kind of the only frustrating parts right now. |
I used to be ably to handle anything the German player had just with my conscripts..
Lol, yeah that was balanced.
Not disagreeing with you though, Germans definitely seem a little too powerful this patch. |
I think people are forgetting that the soviets have a large halftrack that you can reinforce out of, just nobody builds it. Making the halftrack only reinforce in friendly territory would severely slow down the german army, as it's one of the only ways an aggressive german can stay in hostile territory without being overwhelmed by human waves of conscripts given the scripts have a larger squad size.
Also in VCoH some units could upgrade in enemy territory when it made sense for balance. Reinforcing out of the halftrack isn't broken, so don't fix it. |
