I think mech company is the best with this strat. I picked up all 3 companies on sale and the clown cars make for an insane early game. The middle game is nice too with the halftracks reinforcing and the 155mm arty can bring down hell. Hopefully you won't have to endure the late game.
Recon is interesting but poor for 1v1 I think. The M8 is quite effective and a good counter to the flaktrack (I think) but the puma counters it and it's not so durable against shreks. I&R pathfinders aren't the best for 1v1. They don't add much to an ammo heavy faction. The sight boost is appreciated. Recon can be gotten from the major but it is appreciated too. The paratrooper call in might be too late though.
Rifle company is never the wrong choice. The best? I'm not sure. The flamers are meh but useful against buildings. They allow you to forgo grenades (if you dare). The Easy 8 makes the company and the faction complete. 2 are effective tiger hunters. It can shoot effectively on the move too. Flares are neat. Vet rifles scale into the late game better but make their effects known everywhere. I can't figure out effective WP smoke usage but it might be there for a good attack if you drop it on the defenders positions. |
"Let's just nerf the USA into nerfbliviion. 90% Axis isn't sufficient!"
-this thread
Yeah its broken but so is the OKW |
Alright... based on the feedback how about this then?
-Rifles get 4 weapon slots
-Can only purchase a maximum of 2 each of BARs and bazookas for each squad
-Can only purchase a maximum of 1 Browning lmg for each squad
-Browning lmg takes up 2 weapon slots
Benefits:
+ Promotes usage of bazookas as emergency AT
+ Doesn't punish a US player on weapon choices. e.g. Gets bazookas early to counter a light vehicle, but when elite infantry hit the field the squad can get BARs as well to help deal with them
+ Allows rifles to pick up weapons on the battlefield more easily
I kinda love this. Well, I love the theory here. Needs tweaking though and it needs to be extrapolated to conscripts, volks, ect. I don't know how or in what ways, but please continue this and post about it further. This is a good start |
Dear Company of Heroes fans:
It’s been nearly a month since the launch of the Western Front Armies, and we wanted to take a moment to address community feedback surrounding the War Spoils system.
Our intention behind the War Spoils system was to create another avenue to introduce new content to our players. War Spoils is part of an effort to create an ecosystem where players earn additional premium content just by playing the game. Before its existence, certain types of content were only available through a physical purchase and though not intended, we recognize this created a ‘pay to win ’ perception with some playing our competitive multiplayer mode.
We put the War Spoils system through user and player testing, sourcing feedback on it prior to its release. During Alpha testing the system dropped timed/temporary items. The feedback on this was overwhelming: players wanted to be able to keep their rewards. Based on this, we changed the system so that any items dropped were permanent. In order to balance the system and create consistent drops for all players, it became necessary to drop duplicate items. We have been planning on adding value to duplicate items since the shift, but also wanted to roll out the initial system so that it could launch with the Western Front Armies release. Our intent has always been to see the War Spoils system evolve over time. As a thank-you to all of our existing users, we granted them with every piece of legacy progression content from the previous system. In giving away this legacy content, we created an increased likelihood of existing players receiving duplicate items from a War Spoils drop. We realize there is still more work to be done.
To date, the War Spoils system has dropped over 527,832 content items. We would like to advise players to not delete duplicate content you receive, as value will be added to these items as the system evolves.
From observations and interactions with the community, we’ve identified the following issues as high priority to address
A purpose and value for duplicate items
A need for correlation between skill/game outcome: If you have an awesome game, the system should account for that
The inclusion of Western Front Armies Commanders in the store, available for purchase
So What’s Next?
Starting on Tuesday, July 22nd you will start to see Western Front Armies Commanders in the Free Commander Rotation. We will continue to also feature other commanders, ensuring that players who don’t yet own the Western Front Armies still get to try premium content.
In addition to placing the Western Front Armies Commanders in the Free Rotation, we will be adding them to the Steam store for purchase on July 23rd. We have received requests for this, and it is something that we can quickly move on. We will NOT be walking away from the War Spoils system once Commanders are available for purchase, and want you to know that we will still very much be working to refine the system. We recognize that while many players have been very vocal about wanting to purchase Commanders, there are those that would prefer we improve the War Spoils system. We will be working towards doing both. Our team is dedicated to investing the time needed to make refinements to the War Spoils system, and we will continue to read, solicit and consider your comments. We are not done working to improve your gameplay experience – this is something we will always be working on.
We encourage our players to continue sharing their thoughts and feedback on the War Spoils system, and there are currently two ongoing threads where this can be done. You can do so on Steam here and in our own forums here. We are reading and monitoring both of these threads.
As our efforts progress in refining the War Spoils system, we will continue to communicate with our fans.
The Relic Team

Well, that's everything we want right? I'm happy with this development--fucking beautiful |
Besides doubling, there is nothing that realy bothers me at war spoils system. The duplicates should be removed, but I don't see other problems. Why should anybody have access to "Rare" "uncommon" or "Epic" items? Especially when we are talking about doctrines. Yes, I might feel frustrated as anyone else because I don't get a doctrine I like and about I think it rocks, but even so, I wouldn't change the system.
Why should players be penalized for having worse luck than their opponent, which just so happened to get the strongest doctrines?
There's no competitive play as long as the War Spoil system doesn't deliver fairness at the 0:00 mark of the game. After that, all bets are off. Until then, it should be and isn't balanced because whoever has the better doctrine has an edge. |
In any case, it's already happening on a broad scale, more out of laziness than protest reasons
Maybe we can amp it up eh? |
Trust me it gets annoying when every other game you play, either you're predetermined to lose or win |
It seems clear that Relic isn't listening to us. The final method we have at our disposal against War Spoils is to farm games with actual people in it. When people can't play without someone in the game being AFK, Relic will be forced by the good-natured gamers to amend the War Spoils system.
Just join any game at all and go AFK. Preferably team games though but you could annoy some 1v1 automatch opponents with being AFK
“Colorful demonstrations and weekend marches are vital but alone are not powerful enough to stop wars. Wars will be stopped only when soldiers refuse to fight, when workers refuse to load weapons onto ships and aircraft, when people boycott the economic outposts of Empire that are strung across the globe. ”
― Arundhati Roy
Relic will only be stopped when players refuse to play (and thus buy games and support their livelihood) |
regarding that study...what a load of total bs, there is no possible way to prove this "theory" with a survey of statistics. what sane person would be shooting over the heads of people trying to kill you. also i know arty killed far more people in world war 2, than small arms and most of the vets of world war 2 were in the rear with the gear not combat effective troops. do people even question what they read anymore.
I applaud you on your efforts to really dissect the study in an objective way and point out all its flaws on a case by case basis. You are proving yourself to be quite the intellectual here, a man of intellectual merit to the highest order. Your proper grammar only helps your case.
But I must disagree with your thorough, objective analysis that is in no way a case of you getting pissed off when reality says otherwise about your worldview because fundamentally, war is humans killing humans, and that does not go down well on the subconscious level, and most troops weren't at the front, while those that were were quickly rotated out, at least in the case of the Allies in both world wars |
Sorry, I wrote than in a misleading way - the stars weren't "taken away," it was just that they stopped giving them out, so they never lost their rewards, just stopped getting new ones. The conclusion: giving out the stars motivated the kids, but trained them to place less value on reading itself.
You know when people say "I played for three hours and got nothing but a stupid face plate, why bother"? That's what I mean. They were playing before with no possibility of a reward, but with random rewards thrown into the equation, the playing itself loses some of its value for some reason.
edit:
Maybe this is a psychology experiment?
"What if we took something that people already did for fun, and then attached an aggravating award system to it?" It's actually fascinating.
Can you please propagate this study and your opinions stemming from it throughout this forum? I've long suspected an effect like that was going on
We're bitching on the forums because the game isn't fun for most. Ever since WFA came out, the amount of bullshit in the game went to too high of levels for it to be enjoyable. So we're doing the only thing we can do, and that's bitch to Relic |
