Have you all even tried the mg42 post patch? Do you remember what mg42s were like in COH1? They work fine now and still do what they are supposed to, support infantry and lock areas down. I use mg42s every game I play as German and still get what I pay for.
Sure they can be flanked now but isn't that their design? You are trading firepower for a more unwieldy defensive unit. Gameplay is more interesting now; just be more careful with how you position them.
Define firepower? Because if thats what passes for firepower i want to trade back.
Players who say one side is autowin is whats wrong with the community, its one thing pointing out particular unit imbalances but saying the whole faction has no chance of winning, really?...that is whats wrong.
The hardcore partisans want their side to be unbeatable, even if they don't play very well and whine like holy hell if that is not the case. I wish all the fanbois realize that when the nerf ball gets rolling it doesn't stop easily. IMO it's better to give more effective counters than just scalping the balls off of units.
On the topic, I think the KV8 is a little too good atm and needs some adjusting but whenever people post stories like these...they just smack of hyperbole and don't do anything to support balance discussions. Post a replay instead of sharing stories. Far too often players complaining about balance exaggerate A LOT in their game anecdotes.
For some reason one of the IV's continually missed at that range; probably due to vehicle movement. A lot of those shots hit the frontal side armor (weird term, but front armor supposedly covers half the model, and rear armor the other half, like in the picture that wooof posted). I don't think the rear armor ever bounced a hit, but the frontal armor and the side frontal armor did.
Pz4s are not tank destroyers so you should never expect them to be able to kill a kv8. All you need to kill a kv 8 is is 2 panthers or one elephant or 22 shrek squads or 45 paks. And its dead easy.
I dont see anything wrong with those videos. Mg42s shouldn't be able to kill anything or suppress from the front because they are not combat troops. They are support troops and should be doing things like peeling potatoes. They are more for recon if anything else.Your supposed to use your mg bullets to distract the enemy then rush in with your ostwinds. This makes the game fun because now you'll have to micro your mg and support it with air support and artillery.
There is nothing wrong with Kv 8 just get a panther or 2 p4s and your problem is solved. They die so easy to 2 p4s it aint even funny. When you see a kv8 just stop building inf. Dont be daft.Relic wanted it to be a wtf kill machine to match the op ness of the ostheer scout car and fht. You need 2 su 85s to deal with one fht or it will kill your entire army. Dealing with t70s are so easy to deal with now. In my opinion they need a massive buff. If you have a tiger you can kill a t70 in 1 and a half shots. Its so easy.
MG seems to be shooting the strat point. I don't think it's the suppression change you're seeing so much as a weird fringe case where it's not actually hitting the squad very much.
After an Ostheer game or two, I'm not having any trouble getting suppression to work if an already set-up MG engages at decent range with a spotter, and it punishes well enough if you bait a unit into the MG arc. Unlike the claims of Panzerjager etc, I've had a maxim move into MG-42 arc and it got suppressed instantly and had to retreat. It's much more fun and engaging for me using it as a support unit and thinking of sneaky ways to bait a Soviet player into the range, and considering firing lines, cover and LOS and things than it was pre-patch.
By contrast, when a decent Soviet player uses shotblockers to approach, or catches one set up and skips past, I have to get out of there rather than just pinning and forcing those conscripts off. Also, when molotov'd in a building or barraged outside of one there's no sticking around, which is a nice change.
Mg shooting at Strat point...Really? Thats your brilliant observation.
