I don't find it particularly viable. At no point are its abilities particularly useful.
Camo - useful on HMG for the trick noted above, but that's about it.
G43 - comes too late, too expensive.
Tactical Movement - Meh. It's like "sprint" for PGs back in CoH1, did anyone really care about it?
Arty - too many munitions for too little effect.
Stuka - too many munitions for too little effect.
Basically, if you managed to OP every single point and for whatever reason had some Opel trucks providing more muni, then it would be useful. As it stands, EVERY SINGLE THING requires munitions in an already munitions starved faction.
The reason the doctrine fails is because it's mutually exclusive to itself and to the Ostheer faction. I can buy G43 OR I can buy LMG. I can plant expensive mines OR I can save for arty. Etc.
Suggestions to fix:
- G43 become a researchable global upgrade at the HQ for all grenadier squads that costs MP / fuel (like BARs) once unlocked.
- Tactical Movement moved to a per squad ability basis and made substantially cheaper, ie 5-10 muni.
- Replace one of the abilities (arty / stuka) with some sort of callin. Basically something that isn't munitions based. Could be stormtroopers as that would fit nicely with the whole infantry thing, but whatever. |
Statistically they are balanced out to have no advantage at close or long range. Other factors like abilities or squad plans likely skew this to some degree.
i.e. molotovs are close range weapons whereas rifle-grenades are long range.
Is that so? Before you saying that I would have bet $10 that grens were better close up, but I guess more testing is in order. They seem to hit every shot close up whereas scripts still seem to miss a good amount. |
Definitely feels more sluggish. I can dodge see a molotov coming well in advance and still have guys get caught in it due to bad pathing / unresponsiveness.
They also still do the thing that INFURIATES me from CoH1 which is the stupid dancing around thing. If I tell you to attack, ATTACK. Don't have individual models diving around for cover like an idiot. If I want you in cover I'll put you in cover, if I want you to attack, attack. |

+1
They don't necessarily need to be exactly the same but playing as Ost I never use the mines. Besides being an incredibly munitions hungry faction, their options are too expensive and too unwieldy / slow / target specific. If anything it feels like the Sovs need the teller mines and the Osts need the regular ones, so maybe just reverse them.
As Sovs since they require munitions for basically nothing planting mines everywhere is pretty easy and usually to great effect.
Also, demo charges on engineers are insane in this game due to plant anywhere. Was playing a guy that would regularly put them near points and I lost several full squads in the blink of an eye as the squad would come in to cap!

We are looking into this. The larger, somewhat hidden, issue is that HTD modifiers stack with cover modifiers. So if I HTD near green cover im nearly invincible. There are a few other issues but this seems to be the major one. We are working to resolve it though.
Aha, I had suspected as much with the stacking modifiers.
Also, thanks much! |
As someone who has programmed for a living for many years, all the posts about "just do blizzard.net how hard can it be" are lol.
blizzard.net is thousands of servers, each with their own power, bandwidth, and maintenance costs. money++ money++ money++
Besides that, they're in many different locations across the world which means interfacing with different laws, taxes, regulations. As well as maintaining local presence in those areas. money++
Then there's the complexity of the software itself. P2P is relatively simple, blizzard.net is not. Entire teams who do literally nothing but write and maintain the blizzard.net infrastructure. money++
Could go on, but that's the high level view of why.

Pz4 appears earlier than you can get t34 or su85
Its machineguns are absolutely deadly, infantry does not survive near
only idea is to slow it down with AT nade (which means my T3 building will be even more late) and finish with Zis AT gun. Both will slow me down early game.
Ostwind is horribly powerful as well. Pair of them killed 3! retreating! full! squads. I started retreating before i lost any men. They followed and disintegrated me.
That has much less to do with the Ostwind and more to how messed up retreat defensive bonuses are at the moment. Any AI thing can shred retreating squads right now. Grab a KV8 and watch as it destroys any squads even retreating in seconds.
Back on topic, Pz4 is 115 fuel after teching to and building T3. It's not exactly a spammable unit unless you are letting your opponent win handily. To put it in perspective, a CoH1 PANTHER was 110 fuel (though admittedly much more MP). A standard income of maybe +30 or so means at best they can make 1 Pz4 every 4 minutes or so minutes. Starve them off from fuel and you won't see more than 1. |
Uh, really?
Button + any AT.
AT nade + any AT.
Mine + any AT.
SU85 absolutely ruins T3 tanks especially combined with any of the above, SU76 is not terrible either though a bit luck dependent. Key to both is using their long range, though I suspect that's a bit obvious.
Personally I haven't had any issues with it, but maybe I haven't come up against a Pz4 pro yet. |
Bad idea. Part of the interesting bits of the commanders is taking the good with the bad. Building your own commanders can only end in one way - 1 or 2 builds being best and everyone using that. See "any game where you can spec" for reference. |
300 fuel for an IS-2? Who the heck is coming up with these numbers? I can tell you exactly how many times I have floated 300 fuel in any game - 1, vs an easy CPU where I just waited to see what the heck was so awesome to be so prohibitively expensive. And it's not that good, not even close.
I guess the point is to avoid the whole "no fuel panther battle group" thing, but I think this has swung a bit far in the wrong direction. There's no reason any call in needs to be so expensive that it becomes impossible. If at any point I can float the resources to purchase this, I have already seriously won the game or am about to lose because of said saving.
Please consider bringing fuel more in line with other T4 tanks. Bump MP if so needed or attach limits if worried about spam. Thanks.
Note: IS-2 used for example but holds true for others, IS-2 is just the worst example.
