Oh really? I know for a fact Hissy has more games played as Russians than Germans.
Yes, really. While it might not always be an indicator of playing mostly one side, at that point you're getting emotional about it and it becomes tainted with "us" vs "them". None of that has any place in a rational balance discussion. |
I feel like this needs to go into every thread on here.
The instant you say "our" or "your" when referring to factions, you have lost every shred of credibility when it comes to balance discussions. Play both to get an equal feeling for how they play out, or be quiet.
Also, the howitzer mode is retarded imo. Bring back muni based AP shells and presto, you have an ATG that can engage tigers and panthers. Problems solved! |
-Some of the doctrines are just not viable because of the amount of resources they require. I don't remember the name but one of them includes T34/85 and IS2, how the hell is someone going to have enough fuel to manage that? NKVD doctrine offers no units but has 4 different expensive munition abilities. If a doctrine is going to lack early game strength but provide strong late game stuff, they should reduce the cost of that stuff within that one doctrine so that it is actually obtainable. In no realistic scenario will someone afford to use recon runs, rapid conscription, airburst prop artillery, and IL2 strafe all in the same game unless it comes at a discounted price.
That's actually quite an interesting idea and could help make the doctrine choices far more deep, massively fix the useless ones, and allow for tweaking one without upsetting others. +1 |
I know it will be hard for you but there is something like support vs T70 its called AT units.
Try snipers and mortars too to maintain some map control, you dont need whole map only fuel and then spam tanks ( you need only one - panzer that is faster on backpedaling than consritps on "oorah") and GG.
The german sniper. german mortar, and Pak40 occupy prime slots in the "Most Useless Units in CoH2" at the moment. They don't counter/do anything. And because the sniper/pak40 is so expensive, it's a high cost usually bad return to get them.
I agree with all of Nullist's points, especially buildings.
Keep in mind that all of this is due to delicate timings. Yes, a P4 or a Tiger will counter maxims, but not in the first 1-10 minutes. |
There's satisfaction in the Ostheer win but no, right now at high levels the game is completely out of balance. There's no ladder atm so...w/e. I personally don't get the point of continuing to spam the soviets and use the same mind numbing stuff over and over again to get wins when there isn't even anything to show yourself off, but to each their own.
However, people are getting wins against good players simply because of overpowered su85's and what not. It's frustrating and many times I've found myself not wanting to play the game. The morale of the community is pretty low, and without chat or lobbies there is no place for it to grow atm unfortunately. I remember when COH originally came out...it was insatiably addicting and a very popular community formed around it...I don't foresee that happening right at this moment.
It's a shame really
That is basically where I am right now. At this point I've uninstalled CoH2 simply because the fun/frustration ratio is so bad no matter who I am playing as. I'll reinstall at some point to take another look, but this is disappointing beyond words compared to CoH1.
The same glaring mistakes in CoH1 were just ported over here and amplified. After reading Quinn Duffy's response about why Button is still included in this game, I don't have a lot of hope in the leadership. That's not a slight against Quinn or relic per se, they're taking the game in a direction they think is good - I just don't agree at all. There are so many "magic" abilities, so many "this thing requires a hard counter", it just feels like OF from CoH1 on the eastern front.
A lot of this salvageable, but man. |
Yes to removing or lowering fuel costs.
But good god, please fix ISU-152 first, that thing is absolutely retarded when it hits the field. Instant GG unless you're super behind. I don't want to go through a patch cycle where the ISU-152 is super affordable and have to face it every game. |
There seems to be a huge level of disconnect here between competitive 1v1 and casual. I am making that assumption based on people saying "use tanks (tiger, lol) to counter t70" when the t70 will be out way before that becomes possible.
In casual, it's not a big deal. Bad micro, loose timing, etc means it's all very stoppable. The issue only manifests itself in good competitive play where it can come out very early and has no counters while doing massive damage. The M8 was balanced in CoH1 because, assuming nobody was getting hugely outplayed, the pak would be out at the same time and it became cat/mouse.
This is like the PE AC in CoH1 where in the hands of a sloppy player or someone that doesn't time it right, it's pretty "meh". But in the hands of a good player it is extremely damaging with a good window of being uncontested.
Except now it's also immune to small arms fire and there are no mines to fear. lol

Stoffa I have a replay from just last night where tellar mines cause such hassle and indirectly lead to the loss of several Russian SU-85s which would of otherwise got away. Your inability to place mines to prevent T70 assaults is not my fault.
Pinning all your hopes on pre-placed 60 munitions (which, for example, means no shreks, no LMG, no G43, no FHT, etc) is a pretty bad excuse for balance.
Also if your opponent doesn't immediately get a sweeper once they know you're using mines, you were playing someone pretty bad. Sweeping 60 munition mines is a kick in the nuts. |
I play mostly 2s and this strafing run is seen in almost every game. The huge area of effect and long duration make it a no brainer to take into every match. It's rather telling when almost every German team I've played recently uses this commander for both of their players. Something's got to give.
While the ability might be too cheap, merely increasing the cost is not enough. No ability, however expensive, should pin a player in his base for a full minute. It's one thing to force a retreat, it's something else to force a pin. The area of effect and duration need to come way down.
While it absolutely is overpowered in its current state, don't confuse that with the fact that every other german commander is terrible right now. Unless you need an elefant tank for some reason, there is literally no reason to pick any other commander. Not because Opel is necessarily OP (except for strafe), but because the rest are worthless. |
