I'm actually glad to see I'm not the only one who suffers random "pak can't see target" issues. I have absolutely no idea what counts / doesn't count as shot or LoS blockers for the pak crew but it comes up in pretty much any game where I use it. The VP was blocking the shot, really?
There's something goofy with a lot of targeting tables to be honest. Besides units not auto targeting what I would consider obviously proper targets, I was playing a lazy team game last night and at near range (maybe 10 meters real life) I had a stationary P4 miss an artillery-ing SU76 *5* times in a row. The other player actually commented on it when I had to retreat the P4 from a ZiS. |
Thread: Strafe.1 Aug 2013, 15:40 PM
Strafe feels pretty good to me now. For 120muni it's still a bargain for what it does when you're attacking a position, but it's no longer insta-win button vs all infantry on the map. It's a proper offmap ability now.
Now to convince them to buff the Ost light artillery barrage and the Sov incendiary barrage. Those things are an absolute joke. |
The German sniper's rate of fire is not an advantage - it's to level the field for the fact that he's firing at 50% bigger squads, combat engineer excluded.
I've seen "accuracy" toted around several times but have yet to see any noticeable difference between them. Each occasionally misses a shot but both seem to hit an extremely high amount of the time, buildings excluded which is a whole separate issue.
They both cost the same and both can arrive in about the same window, so the end result is simply:
Sov sniper - sprint, flare, much higher survivability due to 2 model, good unit synergy. High-ish risk, high reward potential due to more expensive kills.
German sniper - holds cloak while moving out of cover for a second or two, armor bonus that is random chance to avoid damage. Very high risk, medium-ish reward due to low value targets.
You don't really have to look much further than the fact that nobody builds the Ost sniper in tournaments or casual player, whereas Sov sniper is extremely common especially in team games. |
There is no such thing as a perfect time, but there are better times than others. 6pm EDT is bad for pretty much everyone, though US and EU get the worst of it certainly.
It's relatively standard software industry practice to do maintenances in out of the way times to lessen their impact on users. Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying Relic owes us anything or that they have to do it or that they suck or anything, just pointing it out in case.
As I said, pretty minor. It's just an easy thing to do to avoid extra griping.
EDIT: Sorry if it wasn't clear - it's not "US and EU are inherently superior, f the rest of the world." It's more "when choosing a time you're going to impact somebody, so try to impact as few as possible." |
Super minor request, but I think with a lot of potential payoff for customer satisfaction.
As a software developer for many years, I am very very surprised to see that maintenances are scheduled during regular usage hours for a large group of users. Taking the game down at 6PM EDT would make sense for an application used in a typical 9-5 work context, but for a game this is one of the worst times possible as you're impacting Euro and US players.
I understand devs (including myself) don't prefer to do early morning maintenances, but please consider it.
Thanks. |
The voice when it says something like " we can now use heavy armour and rocket artillery" Seems they didnt change this from BETA which is pure laziness tbh.
I think the full patch team is useless tbh, its takeing them so long to fix anything even though when the game was announced they promised fast weekly updates and constant balancing :\
Another scam of a game, its in shambles, fair enough if u only play 1v1 but the rest of the game is no fun.
Wake up Relic and sort your shit, will be the last game i preorder for them thats for sure! I feel sorry for the poor buggers who paid for the collectors edition lol!
It's an oversight and should be fixed, yes, but this post is unnecessarily abusive.
Also given everything else, I'd be fine if this never got fixed and other stuff did. |
CoH is not full of randomness. The only thing random is the fact that unit damage is dictated by an RNG.
My original point still stands.
CoH is one of the most luck dependent RTS's out there. Random full health crits on squad members, tanks going through every single critical option before dying, artillery and mortar scatter, penetration chance, etc. All RNG that the player has zero control over.
SC is one of the least luck dependent. Static damage, no accuracy, no crits, etc. Player has complete control over everything.
I'm not saying one is better than the other, but let's be honest here. |
I don't know what y'all be talking about, but are you seriously saying maxims are overpowered? ah

What about Wermacht bunker MGs? you could tech up and get a flammenwerfer, or a mortar squad or two.
didn't read thread tho.
If you're losing because of bunkers I don't even know what to tell you. Nobody at top or frankly even middle tier play ever builds them with the exception of a healing one in the base and maybe at the very end game to help secure a VP.
I've not found FHT to be a problem if going heavy maxims. Since you have literally nothing but flamer engi to spend munis on, just mine spam and it'll hit one almost certainly and either go down to guards or a Zis or a tank if you're rushing one.
And there's no way to stop flammenwerfer HT unless your opponent is hopeless incompetent. It costs way too little fuel and munitions (which is fine) to be realistically deniable.
See above. Also, 120 munitions upgrade is way too little? I agree it's an effective unit when used properly and punishing if you've messed up early, but after all its tweaks I think it's just fine when playing against it. |
Just a comment. I had about three or 4 squads of PanzerGrenadiers with Panzerschrecks. This was pretty expensive 360 for the PG's and 120 munitions for the Schrecks. But, it really didn't matter what type of tanks the Red Army spammed and threw at me. The PG's systematically took them out at range. A couple of MG's and an AT gun or two and it's pretty unstoppable. Allows you to beat them down so badly that you can start making your own tanks.
If you can field 4 PGs simultaneously and upgrade them all with shreks, you have already won because your opponent must have been AFK.
Plus you would be ridiculously vulnerable to snipers. |
There does seem to be something wrong with the lag. It feels worse than any other game I've got right now including other P2P ones. My system and internet connection are fantastic and playing with people whose setups I know are fine it is still bad.
1v1 is just barely acceptable most of the time, 2v2+ is usually unplayable micro-wise especially as the game goes on. |
