Ok, a lot of people have been complaining about the mgs since the game was launched. Many complained about balance issues between the Soviet and German mgs because of their stark differences. How bout we mix them up in a innovative way to make them somewhat similar but also asymmetrical.
During the war most armies relied on different kinds of mgs for different roles. There is the light machine gun that infantry can easily carry around to give quick firepower whenever they need it and the heavy machine gun which the infantry cannot carry it around but it gives a lot more firepower than a light mg. One of the most revolutionary concept the Germans made was the General Purpose Machine gun. This mean one machine gun can fill in the role of both light and heavy.
So what does this mean put into the game?
It's quite simple, give the Soviets two mgs, the Maxim gun should act like a quick support role while the Dshk plays as the heavy just like the MG42 today. Even though they are both heavy machine guns, they both fill in different roles. Maxim gun as the assualt weapon, the Dshk as the defence weapon.
Now how can we apply this to MG42? Well, since the MG42 is a GPMG let it fill both roles by a switch of a button, the German MG crew can either put the tripod on the bottom or remove the tripod to give it a better assault role so it can act like the Maxim.
Now for the infantry light machine guns. Currently, people have been complaining that German LMG42 gives to much firepower for the Grenadiers, so here is a couple of suggestions.
1. Why not replace the MG42 it with a MG34 which would have less dps for better balance.
OR.
2. Give the Conscripts the ability to purchase two DP28s and lower the dp28 dps so they can match the Grenadiers.
OR.
3. Give the dp28 a suppression ability like the rifleman BARs.
Maybe the problem between two the basic infantry units the Grenadier and Conscript is not that fact that the Grenadiers have too much firepower. It's because the Conscript has too few non doctrinal firepower. Even though Relic wants asymmetrical balance to keep things more interesting, but some of it has to be sacrificed. However, I do not think my suggestions would make the Asymmetric balance any less interesting.

This.
"use a Panther" they say. By the time you "use a Panther" your army is charcoal. It usually hit the field when you have no serious counter (this including a PIV too).
How many times it frontal attacked several paks killing them and escaping? Countless. So it really doesn't matter how "good" you are using your paks.
Just get close with pzschrecks or pzfaust and that means squad wipe.
Only chance for soviets? Just... lol.
What german unit can enter unsupported in the soviet base, erasing half of soviet army and escape with minimal damage?
The first sentence was sarcastic, I self contradict myself when I gave an example of the Panther scenario. I myself usually get a tank before they get a kv8 which depends on map control. What I'm really complaining about is that the thing can completely ignore the tanks while it's burning infantry. So it doesn't matter if I get a Panzer IV it's rounds will just bounce off no matter where I hit it. Relic really doesn't reward flanking. |
yea, it's not OP it can just ignore a panther hitting it's rear while it's burning infantry. I've seen the thing running around unsupported and sometimes into enemies base, you can pretty much use it like an idiot and still get a lot of kills when RNG permits it. |
Well I'm glad we are all historians, I got my numbers from Glantz's Operation Barbarossa book. I'm not trying to be a smartass I just think the number 2 million soldiers is too low of an estimate to make for the Soviet Union.
I'm also anxious to see what I can learn from Theatre of History. |
The Soviets actually had more than 5 million troops, 20,000 tanks, 20,000 airplanes, and thousands of more field guns and artillery than the Germans had. They also recruited 6 million more troops by the time Operation Barbarossa end. The 2 million troops are only the troops that were on the front line during the attack there were millions of others in military bases scattered all around the Soviet Union. So no, the Soviets were not outnumbered, they outnumber the Germans on everything except submarines |
Hahaha, with all these people making surrender jokes about the French. It's getting old now, in case you guys haven't noticed the Soviets have surrendered huge armies to the Germans and they offered the same kind of resistance the French did and France did try to resist the Germans by making frequent but futile counter attacks before surrendering.
The only difference between the French and the Soviets is that the Soviets hurriedly replaced their losses since they get the luxury of having such a huge country, and the Soviet conscription system.
Back to this topic I would not like to see the French army at all in World War 2 games. They lost only during a month which is very small compared to the 5 years of war and they are not that much different from the British. There is no reason to put in a French army. |
T-34 is very well repaired, many of the tanks were restored by 3 - 4 times, while the Germans thought that this new tanks, from here the myth: "Red Tank zerg rush". During this tank crews loved T-34.
Well incase you haven't look at the Soviet production numbers many tanks the Germans encountered were new tanks. Lots of Damaged T34s has been repaired yes, but you can say the same for all German tanks and Shermans. |
ISU-152 says "niet"
From an interview with Dmitri Loza: "The Germans counterattacked us with several Panthers. The Panther was a heavy tank. I ordered an JSU to move forward and engage the German tanks. "Well, take a shot!" And oh, did it shoot! I must say that the streets in Vienna were narrow, the buildings tall, and many wanted to watch this engagement between a Panther and an JSU. They remained in the street. The JSU let loose and the impact knocked the Panther backward (from the distance of 400-500 meters). Its turret separated from the hull and landed some meters away. But as a result of the shot broken glass fell from above. Vienna had many leaded-in windows and all of these fell on our heads. To this day I blame myself that I did not foresee this! We had so many injured! It was a good thing that we were wearing helmets, but our arms and shoulders were all cut up."
However, if a Panther takes one shot at the rear of the ISU152 it's entire ammunition will explode, the Soviets never mentioned this but since the ISU152 uses very large, heavy shells and like all tanks if the ammunition is hit the entire tank is dead. Real life battles are not like Company of Heroes battles, you don't tickle down HP like in the game, it's one shot into a weak spot it's one kill.
The Soviets don't talk about the flaws in their tanks and they always love to boast about them despite losing them in huge numbers. For example, the T34 cooks and explode just as easily as a Sherman but who got the reputation of being a tea kettle? |
If the Soviet squad wiping tanks will get buffed then the Germans should have their stuff buffed. Is2s and ISU does alright against any German tank apart from the Elefant and they can reliably wipe out German squads which is a huge deal.
People complaining about their tanks being inadequete should really just blame rng because that's how the Soviet faction win these days. Every attack or move depends on rng to be succuessful. Sometimes a Panther will just bounce off that AT nade and completely flank the isu152 or the AT nade completely destroys the engine of a full hp Panther allowing the ISU152 to just beat it to death from a safe range. |
I really hate the scout car, it's like the bren carrier because it's a high dps mobile unit that comes out too early for the Germans to counter them.
If used right instead driving around in circles getting shot at, the vehicle will wipe out any support weapons and pioneers and can kill grenadiers just by kiting because it's gun is just so powerful.
In the hands of a good player this will just make your life hell. At least with the recent nerfs players will be losing them less even though they are still powerful. |
