1. As a general point: CoH2 top level skill has exceeded old school CoH1. Today's top CoH2 players > Symbiosis, Aimstrong, Aljaz, Sepha etc. It used to be the other way around until around 2016 but the "CoH2 is for scrubs" meme is outdated in 2021 I'm sorry.
2. A multiplayer game can't really be noob friendly by design. A game is noob friendly if the playerbase is bad at it. If a game is "easy", it's "easy" for both sides. Difficulty is 100% dependant on your opponent.
3. Both systems offer depth in their own way. You exclude the advantages of the CoH2 system and emphasize the advantages of the CoH1 system. CoH2 allows for direct counterplay to stop a crucial cap which is absolutely huge. In CoH1 you can't stop a cap unless you pin or kill the unit. So at the centre vp the late game basically becomes you cap -> I cap -> you cap -> I cap ad infinitum. In CoH2 you actually need to decisively win the engagement before you can cap which shifts the focus away from the "throw shit into the meatgrinder trying to neutralize the mid vp" type of late game.
4. If the mapmakers do a good job and don't put green cover in capping circles and sandbags don't become too abundant there will actually be trade offs similar to those in CoH1.
"Noob friendly" is genuinely something you can ascribe to a multiplayer game. I'd say that a game with a low skill ceiling is pretty "noob friendly". The skill floor is somewhat less important, actually.
If the game can be played optimally with little effort then terrible players and good players are basically indistinguishable, which is definitely what i'd call "noob friendly".
Arent the descriptions you're giving of capping CoH1 and 2 the reverse of what you're stating? Surely your unit having to put itself at extreme risk to capture a point (by entering an animation/becoming vulnerable/unable to retaliate to attack) makes clearing an area vital before capping can occur? |
Why not, for example, take Möbelwagen (Sd.Kfz. 161/3) instead of Wirbelwind, for a change. A small number of Sd.Kfz. 161/3 ended up in Italy, here they had the 26th and 29th Panzer and 90th Panzergrenadier Divisions (90th received four Möbelwagen and four Wirbelwind)
Personally I'd like to see OKW's Flak-HT make a return.

Why do you want to so desperately make this an "Axis v Allies" argument? The various German (And soviet) vehicles were mentioned because they're the most obvious examples of vehicles that aren't really appropriate for the timeframe. Mentioning Axis tanks doesn't magically make the post some veiled "Actually I /do/ want these retarded prototypes" post.
Nobody is asking for the Maus. I have no clue why you have it in your head that people actually want the Maus in the game either. |
Because.... people don't just a-move vehicle and leave it be, they'll react and retreat instantly, instead of trying to crawl forward couple of meters to roll over another mine, plus sweepers are a thing.
But then again, its some clown rank where it works for you, but I wouldn't consider something effective with assumption that opponent is literally braindead.
People are going to react instantaneously to having hit a mine, and instantaneously begin to reverse without ever moving forward a couple more meters? They're ALWAYS going to have the vehicle selected, and not be moving infantry simultaneously to support it when it hits the mine?
They're going to do this while also contending with the inherent input lag of CoH2?
They're going to reliably do this every single time they hit a mine, without fail?
Rather optimistic. |
But there was no side armor in coh1? The front half of the tank is frontal armor (green), the rear half is rear armor (red). Same story in CoH2.
In CoH3, a 3rd area & value for side armor(yellow) was added
Wait, really? I've always been under the impression that vehicles had Side Armour values in CoH1, which was removed as a mechanic in 2...
I can't seem to find any information/statistics on this now, though. Maybe I was mistaken? |
Why they weren't upset when some of the most obscure and irrelevant to the war units made it to the axis faction across 2 games?
Can we use Super Pershing then?
It was deployed to EU theater.
"Obscure/Irrelevant" != "was literally never used".
Please stop with this absurd false equivalency. |
Yikes how thick-headed are you? It's obviously within borders of the broader term: "WW2-themed". Albeit it's a prototype, and its place in the game - for that reason - is questionable.
If it wasn't actually used by a belligerent of WWII in some sort of official capacity I'd hardly call it fair to declare it "WW2-Themed". How do you even define "WWII themed" if not by the use of something in the conflict? The Maus and IS-3, as others have mentioned, would fit the bill in the same way as the BP, but It's seriously a stretch to call them "WWII" vehicles.
This isnt being "thick-headed", this is just your point not making sense. |
I see. All I can say is that Relic is taking this players approach very seriously. I made the case for side armor myself two years ago, with a lot of others backing it up, and they decided to put it into the game as a new major feature. So I expect many issues that have been or will be brought up will be addressed. If you want to see certain things make sure to leave feedback or suggestions on the new CoH-Development forums. With what we've seen so far already in terms of improvements/overhauls (garrisons, side armor, resource system, etc.), I am confident they will tackle (or at least attempt to) as many player grievances as their budget allows.
How exactly does Side Armour work in CoH3, anyway? Is it identically to CoH1 (bad), or is there some special mechanism at work?
Ideally it's based on the angle at which you hit the opposing vehicle, rather than precisely which hitbox it strikes... |
I never understood why they didn't translated DoW2 multiplayer eco into CoH2, it clearly proved a functional feature and helped tremendously with balancing and game pace.
How did it work in DoW2? It's been years since I played that. |
Google yourself "Mark III free gun reflector sight".
That's a Reflector Sight, not a Holographic Sight. Come on, at least do your research. |
Well is CoH a historical accurate game franchise? No, it has never been. It's a WW2-themed strategy game, and the Black Prince falls under the WW2-theme.
Thanks for agreeing on that the Panther had turbo bad mechanical problems. Lets make it historically accurate then and make them break down randomly. Sounds like a fun and enjoyable gameplay mechanic.
Game has yet to be released and you guys are complaining.
But the Black Prince isnt WW2-themed, as it didn't fight in WW2.
This is a really stupid reductio ad absurdum you're making. |
