I think that’s true for most of us. Tanks are the larger investment so it makes sense to zone in on those units. Most mainline infantry is fairly replaceable outside of fully vetted Rifleman with double upgrades
Imo max vet mainline are as good as stock elite, so they should be treated as such. However, some infantry benefit more from vet.
in terms of heavy, I think most heavies are in a good spot, while others just in need a little bit more tinkering. The balance team made a series of changes that brought heavies from a bad unit that, was only good for rushing, to OP unit with timing and then brought it again to a decent unit. Although, most heavies are not as efficient as mediums. They do reduce the burden of micro by a huge margin. It is still a gamble tho, kind of like with the famous proverb of putting all eggs in one basket. |
How would it be rushed if you need 12-14 CP before you could make them?
AFAIK stock units locked behind tech only, when doctrinal units are locked behind CPs and/or tech. So Donnie is actually spot on about this. |
...
Kind of agree that in 1v1 penals are less optimal, however, you can still run a build with a sniper. Clown car is also pretty neat LV early game. With all being said I always go for later T2 with penal build, because it is extremely hard to play without at least one AT Gun. Yes, the timing goes to sh1t, but at least you are not forced to transition to PTRS penals or build a baby SU. |
Penals are viable in every gamemode regardless of how their stats look on paper compared to other infantry, especially elite long range infantry. They are also ridiculously good with the picked-up LMGs. I pick them if I want my build to have a punch in the early game or if I want to have more fun, since penals is high risk-high reward build. Cons are too boring imo. |
Once Grens/Volks get their weapon upgrade they get shit on. On top of that they have almost no utility beside faster capping speed. And the commander is mostly inferior to Lend Lease or Mobile Assault. Its bottom 3 commander for a reason.
the commander has decent potential, but Raid Sections just don't cut it. If you could split the upgrade, that would have been much better. |
That is exactly how I done the test.
damn, Ok then I guess. Where is Aerafield when you need him? First you need weapon rack to get the upgrade, now this
|
I have done some test in test mod. No luck.
Even after squad drops the vickers K, upgrade icon stays deactivated
if you are about "remove slot weapon" feature, then I don't really trust it, since you can end up cloning the upgrade on troops on which this feature works. Imo the only true way to test this is via losing squad members. |
Why should only raid sections get this special treatment while pzgrens, fusiliers, guards, paratroopers etc etc don't?
Raid sections require "weapon Rack" upgrade. If it was as simple as with fusiliers (to get access via essential tech advancement), I would have agreed with you. But since you have to invest in a rack, this makes absolutely no sense.
I'm not sure (because I don't use that sxxt unit) but I heard they can't pay 60 muni to get new one when they drop one weapon. If that's true, at least this should be fixed?
p.s. Just confirmed it really is impossible to upgrade 1 vickers K after dropping one.
AFAIK you actually can. Maybe I'm tripping, but I recall doing it several times. |
Why you always have to pay for two VickersK for Raid Sections ? Why the upgrade is not divided into 2 separate upgrades that gives 1 Vickers-K? Imo 120munies is a hefty investment upfront and is on of the reasons why I don't like the squad |
Well, it's mostly due to me liking the VGO by itself due to it's high ROF/beefy sound effect, but having your IS upgraded with 2xVK does eliminate their primary weakness of getting rushed by more CQC oriented squads like Fusiliers/MP40 volks/assgren etc. They'll lose in return long range against Obers/vetted LMG grens but mid range it's a very even fight, and you'll dominate both of these squads close range.
When I use the SWR commander I like to build 4xIS, and by the time I get the M3 halftrack I have like 170-250muni approximately in reserve to upgrade them with at about the 7-10minute mark depending on my CP situation.
They can go toe to toe with feuersturm MP40 volks/early pzgrens whilst beating them at mid-long range.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and not gonna say that it is outright bad. I definitely can see the advantage, but only if you skip the weapon rack. Otherwise a vickers is almost 1.4 more expensive then a bren, while Brens have better synergy. Perhaps it is viable in 1v1, not gonna argue about that, since I don't play UKF in 1v1. Also, tightrope always tries something new and sometimes it sticks (like AssSection spam), but sometimes it does not, like countless other niche strats he tried.
But again, maybe this strat viable, but I lean towards "no" in a sweaty tryhard situation.
