Do you mean the Brummbar?
Iirc, Sanders already showed this gap does not exist.
From my experience (I use brumms a lot lately in team games) there is still a major gap. Brummy would just auto target single models that stand out from the group. Also, when they start retreating, brummy is terrible at leading shots on auto. |
Regular pathfinders work better when combined with other squads and have half the cooldown of IR pathfinders, can be quite strong early game with a cooperative teammate.
You can drop mg or at, which let's you skip one of the officers, saving some fuel.
Paratroopers don't come bunled with pack, so you may have more than 1-2, with thompsons they have the highest close range dps and still decent at medium range, aaand, unlike support paras, they have timed demo charges vs static defenses.
P47 with the rockets is just scary, it may not be as effective as ju87, but defnitely takes the attention of the opponent. These are the times when you can wipe a squad with grenades on an another part of the map.
Overall I say Airborne is in a good spot. |
Quoting myself from the upcoming commander update - wishes thread:
Could ostheer get at least one doctrinal forward retreat point? I was thinking of putting it in Festung Armor for example in place of smoke or the pak43, I rarely see that commander being used.
Actually now you mention it I had a similar idea before, giving the FRP ability to an Sd. Kfz. 260/261. This is basicly a turretless 223 (perhaps replace pintle mg with panzer commander), so it would be possible to make with the modding tools. My idea was that this vehicle would have dual purpose: it would have a very long sight range (70~80), so, if it is indeed put into Festung Armor doctrine, then you can either use it to spot for hulled down panthers (they have longer range than elephant actually) or deploy somewhere safer for FRP.
edit: hulled down panthers actually don't have longer range than elephant, but slightly longer than 60, allied TD range. |
I mean, it's clearly a bug. The squad was upgraded with one weapon upgrade (to MP40s), retains one MP40 if then upgraded to G43s, and then "loses" it if a model subsequently dies.
Whether or not you might consider having K98s to be "Better" than MP40s for whatever purpose isnt really the question, it's whether a squad's loadout should change if a model is killed and then reinforced (Excepting weapon drops, of course), and I think the answer to that would clearly be "no".
Either have the G43 upgrade give the fourth squad member a K98 when they're upgraded, or don't have the MP40 be "lost" when a model dies. The currently situation isnt intuitive at all.
Hmm, good point, I stand corrected. It can be indeed considered a bug.
This however brings up a similar issue and I'm not sure if it can be adressed or not: some squads (typically officers) feature multiple weapons (like a pistol and several rifles, carbines or smgs) and when they pick up dropped weapons it is random which model carries it. Now optimally it should replace the pistol wielded by the officer model, but many times that's not the case, I wonder if priorities could be given in this situation. |
Yes but if I didn't want them to have the MP 40 I wouldn't have given it to them. The Stormtrooper MP 40 does insane damage matched only by the Paratrooper Thompson, but their Kar's are only Grenadier versions. If they had Ober Kar98's then it would be better, but I'll take the super MP 40 that does higher damage than the Kar all the way to mid-range.
I still don't think it's a bug, rather a balance question. Open a separate thread about it if we want to discuss it any further.
Personally I would only put G43s on storms if I wanted a frontline utility unit (smokes nades), othwerise I just keep the MP40s for the high dps on surprise attacks. G43s on panzergrens is generally a better choice imo. |
Stormtroopers given MP 40's and G43 only get 3 G43, but permanently lose their single MP 40 if any squad member dies and is reinforced.
They always had 3 G43s since their major rework. Losing the mp40 is actually a good thing imo, G43 storms are meant to be used at longer ranges in general. |
Radio Intercept is a prime example of those abilities where an arranged team with voice chat has a massive advantage over randoms. I mean one could type it in chat, but that quickly becomes a burden after the very early game and would most likely lead to degrading performance, especially in 4v4.
Imo, as a quality of life improvement, if one of the players has this ability unlocked, then it should be applied to all of their teammates as well, ie they can hear/read what units the enemy has built. Radio Intercept is the only 'recon' ability in the game that can't provide information to your teammates as well (without telling them).
As an alternate solution, if the ability is unlocked, then all freshly built units appear on the minimap (or perhaps even through the fog of war) for about 5-10 seconds. This could help when the event feed scrolls too quickly, leaving no time to read what unit the enemy has built (especially when it comes to okw where the radio intercept voice lines are lacking).
I wonder if any of these solutions are possible to do with the modding tools. |
The camera view in the clips, usually looking directly at units in FoW, is indeed rather convincing, the JCS ambushing the sniper is a good example imo. |
Since radio intercept was mentioned, shouldn't it work for all teammates if one of the soviet players has it? I mean this is one of those abilities where arranged team with voice chat has a massive advantage over randoms, like what, you can't expect them to try to type all the units they hear about in chat, especially in 4v4.
I have an alternative solution: if the ability is unlocked, then all freshly built units appear on the minimap (or perhaps even through the fog of war) for about 5-10 seconds. I actually wonder if this is possible to do with the modding tools. |
Replace Artillery Flares with something else and that's it
Considering OKW has non-doc recon now, removing them wouldn't be a big deal anymore. Some artillery ability (as in a lethal one) in place would be nice.
Or even better, smoke drop, it fits the special operations theme, while also providing recon, but in a more fair way. |
