The other troll was using outdated points to launch an ad-hominem attack.
The points that the other troll was making were perfectly valid feedback for WBPv1.3. However this is WBPv1.4 and we have already addressed all the issues the other guy was using as an excuse to make a post.
In short, if you haven't bothered to launch the mod and if you haven't even invested the time to read the changelog, you don't belong in this thread.
PS: Anybody who claims they know whether the "majority" or the "minority" players loves/hates PTRS is only bullshitting themselves. The only entity that has any clue about it is Kyle. We're still waiting for the results of the survey.
Since the only fitting post to this topic was mine, thanks for the compliment. It seems laying out points, trying to describe a problem as accurately as possible and then have my argument turned around by someone who purposefully uses wrong terminology now makes me a troll. And I didn't attack anyone, I responded in kind - if your post wasn't an attack in the first place, then how can you consider mine one without being completely hypocritical?
Not to mention that having a different opinion from yours doesn't make me a troll, how about you cut the bullshit and tell me what your problem is with me specifically? Did I hurt your precious feelings in some way? Did you simply get up on the wrong foot?
P.S.: How come I am the troll, when you either constantly ignore everything I post (like my post about Assault Grens still being inferior to Pioneers) or try to dismantle my arguments by ridiculing me, thus trying to make it personal? Honestly, that makes you look like the troll, not me. Not once have you managed to coherently, and without trying to insult me, answered to any of my posts. Yet calling me a troll at the same time is disingenuous at best. |
Stormtroopers are, literally, Panzergrenadier clones with a -6.25% chance to get hit, lower upkeep costs, lower time to reinforce. Ah, also they get stealth.
If PGrens are OK, Stormtroopers are even better. If PGrens suck, what can you tell about the state of the rest of the units I listed there?
I didn't say anything about upkeep or reinforcement costs, I was talking about their manpower cost. You know, that currency used to pay for new infantry units. You might have heard about it, it's only one of the most important aspects of the game...
Not to mention that PzGrens don't need to pay ridiculous amounts of ammo to become useful at anything, but I guess you don't like taking more than aspect into "the scope" of your viewpoint, in order to use more stupid sarcasm. |
Thr goal of assgrens is not to take lategame closerange allied infantry head on. It is to flank tean weapons and dispose of them.
In that case, you can immediately scrap anything you people did to Assault Grens (because they worked better at the specified role before the changes). It also doesn't change the fact, that I can still simply produce a second Pioneer squad for less manpower and achieve the same goal even easier and cheaper - this holds doubly true with the buff Pioneers received to their offensive capabilities.
Then there's also the problem, that Assault Grens are too squishy to do even that single job you just assigned them to. Whenever they try to flank, they will inevitably run into other infantry along the way (unless you play against a blobber, in which case Assault Grens will never work out regardless of their changes). And SPLAT, the entire idea of trying to flank the enemy's team weapons goes down the drain, because any opponent worth their salt will now guard his flanks.
At the same time, two Pioneer squads wouldn't have a problem with that, because you could split them up, have one of them play meatshield (cost effectively) while the other goes on to assault the team weapon. Less manpower cost, better results.
P.S.: So everything I already said about Assault Grens a long time ago still holds true. They are still the worst assault unit in the game (sure, they are relatively cheap, but since they also offer nothing worth their cost, this is a zero-sum game) and there is nothing that redeems them. Their grenade ability still offers nothing against most allied team weapons, as almost all of them (the British ones are entirely excluded from this) pack up so fast that they are never endangered in the first place. Especially the unit that would most likely be targeted by such strategies (the USF mortar, which is still a brain-dead choice for any USF player because it has absolutely no drawbacks and severely limits any strategical freedom Ostheer may have had) is so fast to pack up and run home, that Assault Grens don't matter a single bit. |
The only thing that Flak Emplacements offer is light AT But as soon as infantry comes along they die
That thing has less penetration than the 222, how exactly can you consider it to be light AT at that point? |
vCoH had a large and healthy community for full seven years before the release of CoH2. If this game was designed as a worthy successor it needs just as much attention from the devs. Otherwise it just looks like the already thinned out community will grow even smaller when many people fancying RTS titles switch to DoW3/other games when they release.
The first game lived as long as it did due the plethora of mods (which in turn existed because the game was more open). And I mean real mods, not the pitiful thing that allows for slightly different units and the mess of an application that Relic calls a map editor...
Of course Relic has promised us proper mod support and better tools for a long time now. It will probably be really soon. You can count on Osttr Relic! No really, you can! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) |
Historical accuracy debate ... plz stahpe
Not to mention that nobody wrote anything about the fact that the Germans relied far more heavily on the use of penal units (going to the point of actively looking for minor offences to transfer soldiers to them). But hey, historical accuracy in a game with a unit by the name of "Obersoldaten" is like complaining about the lack of realistic physics while flying around on a pig... |

Assault grens have never been a huge issue for the game. Their commander has been an issue, but not since their launch/cashgrab have assault grens been a problematic themselves. The only feasible change to them might be Faust access in some manner, but that's a contentious change.
Assault Grens haven't been an issue, because they have been irrelevant ever since their first nerf. They were basically nerfed into oblivion, in the truest sense of that sentence. The changes in the WBP do nothing to change that, so the question is why they were touched at all in the first place. Wasted time, like in so many other areas of that patch.
The 222 is the only unit that warrants taking small arms fire, but tbh the 222 model should be like half the size it is. It's kind of been an odd unit the way it looks and performs in this game.
The way accuracy on infantry rifles works would make that change in target size irrelevant - small arms fire would still hit it with a 100% chance. The problem isn't as bad on the Puma, as the Puma isn't mean to fight infantry - unlike the 222. Even in the WBP (with the allegedly fixed MG) the 222 still gets fucked up by a single Rifleman squad before it can force that squad to retreat. You don't even need to bother once there are two Rifleman squads closely together, because they still outdamage a fucking 2cm auto-cannon...

Yeah pgrens are ok. I would prefer that they have rifles like stormtroopers at the start. I always thought they should be closer to obers but without an lmg. Getting stgs or schrecks should be their choice.
PzGrens are only worth their cost, because they provide a significant shock value. When they come in, you already have long range units (Grens), getting more of those is a complete nonsensical decision. Couple the upgrade idea with the ammunition problems Ostheer already has, and you make things worse than they already are. Because then the decision would not anymore be along the lines of "Do I compete in the infantry game by spending my ammo on LMGs, or do I go for a mine?" - you would essentially remove strategic diversity from Ostheer, which would be kind of funny seeing that this is the faction with the least of that anyway... |
This is a good way to go imo.
Either this or grenade cooldown + crap weapons at start but without "only in certain territory spawn".. these 2 options are my favorites
No, the grenade cooldown should be implemented in any case. If weapon upgrades were to be implemented, their ammunition cost would need a significant amount of work though - Stormtroopers with their current upgrade costs are one the worst units at their manpower bracket, and that is with their call-in nature in mind (meaning that if the call-in nature were to be changed to friendly territory only, they would lose more usability than most other infiltration units).
That said, the work to fine-tune the ammunition costs for those upgrades would be a worthwhile investment, as it would keep the flavour and utility of these units while making them more tolerable. |
Thus, it makes sense to have an iterative process that you prioritise self-contained changes to high-priority things. Once this is fixed, you deploy, people play the game and you get feedback to fix the next batch of issues.
The problem is, that many things are not self-contained. Armoured vehicles for example are out of scope for this patch, but meanwhile infantry isn't.
Surprise: Ostheer early game problems are (to a degree, not the way it is now) meant to exist, because their vehicles were originally supposed to be better. One of those two things got patched out over time while the other wasn't, and suddenly a host of problems appear - and those problems are not isolated, self-contained in the fashion you are making them out to be.
Your idea might work, if it were applied horizontally instead of vertically: Take the problems you deem most important, look for their connections, fix them, and see what happens. By limiting what can be touched and what cannot (which I know is Relic's thing, not yours) it becomes impossible to recreate these connections later on without either keeping the game unbalanced in the meantime (which it looks like the WBP is doing, and which is incredibly frustrating for those who want to play the game while this happens, i.e. when the WBP goes live), or without going back to the original patch later on and reverse some of it (which means a massive amount of additional work in the long run). |
And for information, LMG 42 does more damage than Bren
Bar will be good at close and mid range, and allow you to move, but in anycase bar can win in term of damage against an immobile lmg42 at mid and long range
Aside from the MG 42 not being the right way to balance Grenadiers, you severely misrepresent the BAR. A Rifleman Squad with a single BAR will beat Grens with an MG 42 at any but the longest ranges - no, the MG 42 does not magically outperform the BAR at medium range, not when the BAR deals two times the damage at close range (as it currently does). Then there's of course the Bren, which simply can't perform on the same level as the MG 42, as it comes on a potential 5 man squad that already massively outperforms almost any other infantry unit (when sitting in cover). Giving Infantry Sections even more firepower by buffing the Bren would be more than just stupidity.
As I said, the MG 42 is not the way to balance Grenadiers. Ostheer already demands way too much ammunition investment to stay on the same level (not even to outperform, just to be equal) as other factions. Emphasising that even more would corner Ostheer even more - just as beating up the fat, ugly kid in school isn't very heroic.
The balance approach should rather come from either adjusting the other infantry units, or by re-evaluating veterancy bonuses. Sadly the Winter Balance Preview focusses most of its energy on relatively sideline topics, instead of finally tackling the major infantry problems, so we will most likely not see anything happen here anytime soon. Sure, there are some adjustments of veterancy bonuses, but what has been shown so far are negligible changes at best.
