2. the community did not "agree" on the mortar, a certain someone who was HARDstuck with USF in midtier rank 1v1 decided USF needed mortar cause he kept losing to defensive playing OKW and OST players.
So the MG42 got shoved into T0, the SOV v OST matchup be damned. This crammed USF into always dealing with MGs and Ostheer always using MGs.
So then USF was given a T0 mortar to counter the T0 MG that was countering the T0 riflemen. Much strategy. Such diversity.
At release, OKW v USF wasn't actually too terrible. Likewise Soviet v Ostheer remains to have the highest potential for a balanced game.
T0 MG did much else. It opened much more opening strategies for ost. If USF mortar would have been the one community tested, but no, relic goes full asshole.

I can confirm the nades ability rarely works.
I've lost counteless comets to a cheeky faust because the crew must moved up to them and dindt throw nade.
I cant seem to pin down exactly when this bug happens either :\

AT is preferable. There is no denying that. This topic is not about choosing between random and at. It is simply about the poor logic for the matcher which should be improved. I play with friends whenever I can, but it's not always possible. I think wanting to play with people after a match would happen more with better matching. Sometimes there might be a good teammate to contact, but when the system is trying to bring you down, you aren't going to want to contact the people it matches you with.
If you ever have a good experience, try asking your team mates for a friend invite.

I hit lv16 in 3v3 randoms and decided to see what it would be like just doing 4v4. I didn't know if the automatcher would consider me a 16 for any game mode or just 3v3. Also, I'm playing USA, which I think gets beat down pretty fast in 4v4. I quickly feel like I am facing off against 4 people pretty much alone. The ass whoopings are fierce. My opponents hit the right targets of opportunity, they dodge grenades, cap points with 1 squad, and generally have excellent preservation.
My allies are typically the opposite of that. So I know it's considering me a 16 when matching me in 4v4, because it's got me in crazy handicap matches. Sometimes there is another poor soul in the game with me who is competent. In 4v4 randoms I'm struggling to maintain level 6, lmao! Even when the opponent is not skilled, I will find myself pop capped, everything pretty close to max vet, gigantic kill counts, yet still losing. I think that has to do with that axis benefit in 4v4.

I have not seen 1 game with this mod on....
I kinda wish Relic would allow them to break it down and release certain things once they've been tested for a patch cycle to filter bugs. QoL and bug fixes would be nice, along with the occasional high-priority fix like the USF mortar.
