If they add a Croc or a Jumbo we can have an entire commander based off of Sherman call-ins lol. |
Still have access to grenades, phosphorous grenades, satchels though correct? It seems like a very powerful squad if that is the case. Med kits and the arty nade isn't that bad of a thing to lose, you only need 1 of those usually.
If you call the gammon grenade a satchel... |
From a desing point of view and imo:
British - Lend Lease Assault
CP 0 Assault Section upgrade
Requires Platoon Command Post.
Costs 70 munitions.
Imo the ability should not be a available to IS since blobbing SMG/Bren units can prove problematic especially in certain maps and in combination with smoke raid.
In addition the vet 1 sight bonus could allow easy flanks. The combination of WP grenades and heavy gammon bombs/grenades is also OP. It can be used enemy fortification frontally even T4 trucks. The grenades should have shared CD.(heavy gammon should probably be redesigned)
A separate unit with vet bonuses/ abilities designed specifically for the units role would be a better solution and in line with Tank hunter. Unit could be low CP and upgrades lock behind tech. Alliteratively one could try moving it to Ro.E. but that might also prove problematic with the veterancy bonuses.
Another option would be to replace the Enfield with Garands or M1 Carbine making the unit more mid oriented.
CP 0 Achilles I tank destroyer.
300/80.
One could increase the fuel price a bit due to timing.
The M10 comes with flanking speed and does not get the hammer "war speed" bonus. I see little reason the unit to 2 abilities so I would suggest that AP round become the vet 1 ability (limited to 1 similar to TWP) and flank speed the vet 1 ability for the USF version.
The unit might actually be very strong when combined with Churchill or Croc Churchill.
CP 0 (passive)M3 Half-Tracks
200/30
I am not sure why the name has (passive) on it the "Achilles I tank destroyer" does not but i think this should become consistent.
I see little reason to forced to choose between AEC and AA to unlock.
CP 1 81mm Mortar Team
240 MP
CP 3 Smoke Raid Operation
60mu
Other:
The amount of smoke available to this commander is simply too much:
smoke grenades/mortar smoke (all moratr should switch to smoke/HE faster)/raid.
The M3 combined with CQC infatry could also prove problematic even more so "war-speed" bonuses.
Imo one could replace raid with an late game off map and M3 with a "combined arms" type ability (?) or some other lend lease equipment like:
M1 Garand or Carbine
M2HB HMG
M31A1 Scout car
Ambulance
M5A1 "Stuart"
Sherman 75/76/105
M9 bazooka
M9A1 Anti-Tank Rifle Grenade
WC-51
M7B1 Priest
Brits using Garands and M1 Carbines is a thing I've never heard before.
They already have the Vickers which Imo is enough.
Ambulance is not needed if the M3/M5 Halftrack gets med kits similar to the USF one.
Rest seem like interesting units to be honest, I'm eyeing the Priest like a nice alternative but I would prefer if they traded Raid for Crew repairs. |
My guess is you'll never see Ez8/76mm and Calliope on the same doctrine because it breaks USF commander's design rules.
If you suddenly gives USF with Ez8 and Calliope and make Calliope relevant again, then why would you pickup any other doctrine?
Remember that USF design is made around lacks and not synergies.
USF has to lack of something from the following list:
Elite Infantry
Premium medium
Onmap Arty
A commander with Ranger + Premium tank + Onmap Arty would completely break the rule and that what you're asking for by adding Ez8 to Urban Assault.
USF is about forbidden synergies.
Elite infantry can be associated with Premium tank or with Onmap Arty but Premium tank can't be associated with Onmap arty.
Premium tank and Onmap Artillery can't be associated with strong offmap arty. Only exception is Mechanized with the Jeep. With premium tanks or Onmap Arty you get Willy Peter, Time on Target, Strafing run or 205mm. But not bombing run or 188 callin barrage. Don't get me wrong, those weak barrages have their use but they are clearly specific and they could all of them being replaced by the 188mm barrage with at the minimum the same effect.
Callin M8 light vehicle can't be associated with a callin ATgun (too strong synergy you know)
etc...
Let's just take a simple example here: Tiger + Stuka run. Or Tiger + fragbomb and Strafing run. Do you imagine a second Relic associating in the same Commander the Pershing and Bombing run together?
This is how USF is design and, in my opinion, the reason why the new USF commander feel so uninteresting because almost of possible synergies allowed for that faction are already covered. What USF really needs isn't a new commander but fixing the Calliope and Rifle Doctrines at least so both become viable again.
Rifle company is already, on paper, a great doctrine for urban maps
Tactical Support is also great doctrine on paper for open maps, as much as Infantry company.
They just need to fix them.
I believe you're overthinking it dude lol but I agree that Rifle and Tac Support Companies need a rework. |
The Calliope's main gun isn't animated so that can't be done.
Damn.
Why there isn't an option to keep Normal Sherman bulldozer and the M3 Halftrack?
Because if you really just want the bulldozer in one slot you're probably the only person that does and a lot of people including the community mod team seem to be dead set on replacing it with which I agree since it'd be better for an M5 HT with med kits and the Quad .50 upgrade or for it to be replaced with the weapons M3 than keep it as it is.
Overall I've just made this poll for the most popular of the options so to speak, you're free to make your own since I can't edit it sadly. |
Dozer Blades are too little to not be bundled with something.
But since it doesn't fit the Commander as well as the 105 Sherman, replace them with it, then put the Calliope behind tech and buff it a little more.
Hmm, adding the 105 Sherman and then enabling the Calliope's gun sounds like an interesting idea. |
IMO why Axis is always the more popular faction in WW2 games is because they're armies are seen as better and more qualitative.
People like to identify better with the lone wolf that has the cool stuff and tend to glorify the gear beyond reality. In people's heads the Panzers were ten times better than anything the Allies had and stuff like the Tiger could take out single panzer division with ease.
Of course that's wrong but this is what people think.
You like to play the superhero (Axis heavy tanks) and not the spammy little minions (Allied mediums)
Of course their tanks had severe mechanical problems, were hard to maintain and guzzled a lot of fuel but you cannot deny that they were also pretty far ahead than anyone else at the time in terms of technology. I mean sure you can argue that most of their stuff was ineffective and that's why was not "copied" like the Maus, 800mm Dora, Me262, V1 and V2 rockets, Sturmtiger and hell they even had extremely experimental stuff like jet packs and helicopters and people are still arguing if they even sent people out in space in flying saucers or whatever. It's what that Iron Sky film is based on anyhow. |
Recon support is a strong commander right now if you ask me, everything in it is really useful and those butterfly bombs are lethal. Sherman croc shouldn't be too difficult to model surely? I don't think anyone would mind/notice if the hull machine gun had its weapon profile and graphic changed to a flamethrower with no external changes. (could always add some fuel barrels to the model or something like was done to the t34 or something).
Priests (and calliopes) might not be perhaps 'historical' for "Urban Assault" but in terms of the game it would make the commander immediately meta in everything from 1v1 to 4v4 rather than just 1v1. Whereas Calliopes with no other artillery make it Immediately not, even with the buff.
I wasn't really sure about the M5 halftrack, I kinda ran out of ideas, it was either that or combined arms/rifleman flares or something but it would synergise really well with ass engies and their flamethrowers.
The problem is that the mod tools limits us so a mobile flamethrower tank like the Sherman and T34 is impossible unless somebody either thinks up a work around or Relic do it on their side. |
Honestly this commander looked great until calliopes were used instead of priests. Doctrines in general struggle to be relevant in anything other than 1v1 without at least some form of (not rocket) artillery, either on map or off map. Even if the calliope has been buffed, I would still suggest giving this commander Priests instead of calliope, thus making this a more close quarters focused infantry company, or replace smoke arty with Time on Target/155 arty/240mm arty.
If I'm going to choose a doctrine without artillery, it will be between this and Heavy Cavalry of which I'd take Heavy Cav every time. Even giving this commander Time on Target instead of either priests or calliopes would make this doctrine better, allowing it at least to deny axis artillery if not having it's own.
Whilst the british commander also doesn't have artillery, it at least has the Base 25 pdrs with tommy flares.
Also why is Dozer blades used as an entire commander ability? For a start when am I supposed to use them? if I am gonna build calliopes I'm gonna want Jackson's to defend them not shermans, so it's not even gonna fit within the pop cap. Mechanised gets Dozer Blades and 76mm shermans for the same ability, So either give it that or change it to the sherman 105. However with access to Rangers and scots already in the roster, I don't really think this commander needs 105s either. I really think this commander needs to be rebuilt from the ground up as there is absolutely zero ability synergy or relevance to gameplay.
I'd prefer:
Urban Assault:
1: Assault Engineers
2. M5 Halftrack
3. M8 Greyhound
4. Smoke or Phosphorous Barrage
5. Priests
Alternatively swap assault engies for Rangers but add Rear Echelon Flamers, perhaps instead of the half track. I think Assault engineers are more useful than Rangers for "Urban Assault", they are more or less equally as potent but much cheaper both to buy and reinforce and can build mines (and demo charges) to defend priests like in infantry company.
Would be nice to see the M8 in another commander as well but people are acting like it should be an exclusive thing only for Recon Co. for some reason, as if it's the saving grace for the commander.
Apart from that yeah, Ass engines, flamethrowera for REs and even a Sherman Croc all fit thematically.
Never seen or heard of Priests or Calliopes used on towns or cities tho since the Allies tried to minimize destruction of property and civilian casualties. The Soviets were more ruthless and just straight off brought their siege arty into position not giving a fuck.
WP ability from Rifle company might make sense tho, not sure exactly. |
Combined War speed and flank speed would be broken thou.
I'd trade flank speed for a stock self repair ability to be honest if they don't get the VCR ability. |
