I would like to discuss the commander Guards Airborne corp - there are a lot of slots that make minimal use:
- an ally supply drop is a useful ability, but I think it conflicts with the IL-2 because it spends ammunition.
- DShK possible option - an extremely bad variant, one overnerfed machine gun (no one uses it now) takes up a full slot.
- M-42 - would be an extremely bad option if only the gun is dropped, If this is an anti-tank group: a cannon plus a crew that can buy anti-tank weapons (ptrs or better bazooka as a stronger option for reinforcement of paratroopers), M-42 take the commander from the city battle or make a more anti-tank version: switches shells to sabot (as Sherman with 76 -mm cannon)?
You make good points, I like the idea of having DSHK as a slot so that it's in scope to be tweaked as it's definitely underwhelming in the live version of game. In my own submission I suggested that the Guards be given the Recon Paratrooper's treatment and given two upgrade paths for either AT (prefer bazookas myself) or some kind of AI (PPSH/Thompson). Airborne Guards with an AT upgrade could fill in the M42 slot and be used in Tier 1 builds alongside the DSHK. I personally don't want either Recon or IL2 strafe since they are done to death in vanilla commanders and would prefer the PTAB AT Bombs so that they are in more than 1 commander. It's very hard to be thematic with this commander without it being a munitions black hole - maybe some kind of glider or airdropped vehicle in exchange for fuel if it's possible? Air-dropped M10? *wink wink*

Finally this patch should focus on creating new commanders not fixing design issues of other commanders.
We'll have to agree to disagree but I think it's quite possible to do both. In fact I think it's quite evident that the options that were chosen for voting reflect an interest by Relic to bring less used/UP units and abilities into scope for balancing so that other commanders benefit from the testing process. The balance team has a history of doing as such during the revamps and will probably do so again. That is why I made my suggestion because Rifle Company is an easy commander to make a few changes and be made usable again. I'm not married to the idea of adding M1919s but adding something else in a new slot and adding Flares to Special Support if it's chosen would make both the theoretical new commander better and Rifle Company better - which is a clear win/win for me. |
Since this thread got bumped... I just had an idea today. If possible could we let engineer's be able to cut their own wire without the minesweeper upgrade? Let's just say I'm sick of accidentally wiring in my own engineers by mistake lol |
Then thematically the Ez8 does not feet the commander.
Commander should not provide both superior infatry and tanks.
We're kind of passed that point seeing as how Guard Motor, Shock Rifle, Armor Company, Mechanized, Special Ops, and most importantly Heavy Calvary already exist. I'd argue that 1 LMG Rifle isn't "superior" to 2X Bars so much as it is a different damage profile or play style. Adding LMG + EZ 8 is just another choice compared to Ranger + Pershing, Calv Rifle + 76MM or Ass Engineers + Bulldozer/M10 - it's not exactly novel or blatantly better than existing USF commanders. |
No more lmg pls. And having M1919 and Ez8s in the same commander is actually a bad idea.
Why? Thematically the doctrine is supposed to be focused around Riflemen so giving them an upgrade makes perfect sense. The M1919 by itself is hardly dominate - I've hardly seen them in 1v1 meta and as far as I know Infantry Company is primary used in team games for the Priest. We all know Tactical Support Company is dusty on the shelf. I don't see how having a brawler premium medium for AT is much different than M1919 riflemen backed up Jacksons for AT. |
USF rifle company
1 slot for Flare and 1 slot for Fire up
and OKW user want mp40 package blitzkreig skill same slot
hmm, interesting.
As part of the (possible/probable?) inclusion of Fire Up! in the new commander I think it would be a good idea to bundle Flare and Fire Up! as part of the fix and then give Rifle Company another slot like M1919s or something. Rifle flares are rarely if ever used and if Special Support commander is chosen (which I hope it is) then the flares would have delicious synergy of spotting for the Calliope at a munitions cost. Additionally this would make the existing RE Flamer commander more viable - so if the new commander doesn't have Flamers then it isn't as sad. |
Personally I think the new commanders should focus on in order of importance
1) Fixing/Buffing Units and Abilities that are UP or Underused
2) Filling Gaps in Faction's Unit Roster or Weaknesses
3) Being good enough to be somewhat meta (a given, but I'd rather see a commander that achieves 1 and 2 than a really good commander that doesn't also help other commanders indirectly as well).
As such I think the following commanders are the better choice.
OKW - PanzerJaeger - Obvious choice as a means to change Fusis and offer another choice to sometimes frustrating Raketen usage as primary means of AT.
UKF - Lend Lease - UKF indirect is too piss poor to not pick this option for both Mortar and M10 to supplement Firefly. I would LOVE for the Supply HT and Hold the Line to be buffed but these are secondary needs IMO. Can we PLEASE buff Comet too somehow?
OST - Both are solid submissions but fixing Ass. Grens and Tiger ace should be included IMO. I would love to see Tactical Movement or some other ability changed up as well to help other commanders if possible. Buffing Ostwind should be included IMO if we can get it in scope.
USF - Both are solid submissions but obviously fixing Fire Up and Calliope should be a priority. Rangers are already pretty good IMO but it's nice to have them in a second commander. I personally really like Special Support Company.
Sov - Both are pretty neat but I think Assault Guards should definitely be included in one way or another. Rapid Conscription, B4, DSHK (via Airdrop?) are all worthy of reworks. M5 meatchopper should get added to scope if possible. Incorperating DP28s onto Conscripts would be nice from a pure uniqueness standpoint. I'd rather not have IL2 Loiter in favor of something different and less available in other commanders. |
I apologise, could someone offer me more information on this? Video was kinda unclear-are we seeing, in essence, a coh1 commander tech tree?
Custom commanders... I think. Ability to mix and match abilities. Rumor was Relic was going to introduce it officially a long time back but scrapped the plans. |
You have plenty of time to build an AA unit to completely counter the current Sector Assault iteration.
In team games maybe but having a dedicated AA unit in 1v1 can be a tall order. UKF probably has the easiest time even though Centaur isn't super meta anymore. USF requires specific tech and a not insignificant fuel investment and the Soviet M5 is a big munitions investment and is hot garbage for anything else but AA. |
If they are going to keep it as it is currently it should probably at least be 275 - when you consider that your got the AI Strafe for just an extra 50 Munitions over OST Stuka CAS it's an incredible value. Nevermind all the synergy you got with Jaeger LOS and Flares to spot for it.
I'd also like to see the AI strafe to be reworked to be gradual suppression if possible... Mass Instant Pin that you don't have to even aim is pretty stronk. |
