Funny how all those OKW threads popped up as soon as Kubel was buffed, but to be fair, allies were already complaining about Oberkommando in large team games before the last patch. So it is time to fix 3v3 and 4v4, without breaking what is already somewhat balanced. 1v1 and 2v2 balance threads are relatively quiet lately, so things are maybe fine, except Kubel ofc.
Time to fix 3v3 and 4v4 maps, so it isn't heavy armor spamfest anymore: reduce fuel income for those maps' captured points, or establish an overall debuff on each team fuel income depending on the game mode: 100% for 1v1 and 2v2, maybe 75% for 3v3, 50% for 4v4 ? It would not require altering the maps in the automatch cycle, would be fair for everyone, and would bring more focus on infantry combat in those modes. Or it would have the opposite effect with people building a shitload of fuel caches instead of infantry with all that spare MP they would have, but it would give an edge to the team that invest that MP into actual fighters, imo.
Much wisdom here, and of course the highlighted suggestion might bring more 1v1 and 2v2 players into the larger game scene too.
Win / Win. |
I dig what Voltardark is saying, get the most pro guys in to PLAY THE SHIT out of 4 v 4 and go utterly crazy. It would be pretty awesome to watch, even a small demonstration / show tourney the guys he mentioned.
I know lots of my friends on Steam who love big games would be all over it, to pick up tips and.... lulz.
Do it! For the casuals! FREEDOM!!!

But how would we the community feel about a patch cycle 2-4 times slower than it already is? Relic only have so many man-hours to code and balance, after all
That's a fair point, but Rome wasn't built in a day. CoH2 has a long life-cycle planned, and it'll be even longer if they get the most popular game modes right. |
^ I don't know if it's an impossible dream but the fact that nobody else has done it strikes me as a good reason *to* do it.
They could start with small tweaks and work up. It's a feature, after all. Not screwing with 1 v 1 is something we all agree on, this isn't an either / or argument. |
As I posted in the other thread -
Like I said to Quinn during the CoH2 beta eighteen-odd months ago, we need to honour difference. 1 v 1 is extremely important - I think it is the motherlode of the game in many ways. From that high-level scene cascades all sorts of interest, strategy and ideas.
And but...
CoH2 is meant to be enjoyed on many levels. For example, I am a classic 'hardcore casual' in that (a) I'm pretty stoked about the new Ardennes campaign and (b) I love and play a *lot* of 3v3 and 4v4 (for the reasons my friend Van Voort has already outlined above).
These two extremes are no longer compatible - using the same unit metrics for such diverse game modes is (arguably) limiting both.
I see this as an opportunity rather than a problem, though.
For starters, an elite 'Trial of Iron' 1 v 1 mode could be introduced with exclusive commanders and limitations. This would be *the* aspirational 1 v 1 tourney mode for our best players.
On the other end of the spectrum, a 'League of Generals' large game mode would unleash CoH2 into the gonzo death-fests large game players love. Balance it specifically for this. Have late-game units for both sides that would screw 1 v 1 (but it doesn't matter - they won't be *in* 1 v 1).
I genuinely don't understand why having specialisms for diverse play-styles can be seen as anything else than a boon for the game.
I really don't.
I hope Relic at least engages with us in a debate about a glaring problem with a game we all love. |
^ That's exactly what needs to happen. |
Beltfed:
Thats not helpful, and you are basivally acting yourself like the small group of 1v1ers you are disparaging..
I'm not. In fact my posting history is fulsome in it's praise and understanding of the CoH2 ecosystem as far as 1 v 1 is concerned.
It's never been reciprocated and the lazy hostility from many of the 1v1 Master Race is just boring. I've had enough of it. I'm personally on the point of bowing out of this forum as it's becoming an echo-chamber for the same twenty 1 v 1 trolls. |
2 v 2 is fucked too. I watched one of Romeo's 2 v 2 replays last night with good players on mixed teams - like you say Axis steamroller everything as long as they can hold on long enough. Stale meta - Tiger... Tiger... bigger Tiger...
And I'm a predominantly Axis player. |
LOL. Let's look at the majority of 'hardcore' 1 v 1 players.
* They bitch like schoolgirls about DLC and won't buy it
* The buy the base-game and no expansions as playing the comp ain't their thing
* They are in a tiny minority
* Yet their arrogance and rudeness towards others stymies any real sense of community
* They are generally the least helpful towards others and spam L2P or emotes everywhere. You know who you are.
So let's re-cap: they spend no money and are an active impediment to a mainstream community. They are in a minority.
LooooooL! And Relic are pandering to these guys? It's like a steak restaurant aiming their menu at vegans. |
Axis dominating in big teamgames? No shit. It will be unbalanced, it always was. You cant fix it. Get over it.
What happened? Did the dude move your cheese.
Arrogance like this is part of the problem, and will be the death of this so-called 'community.' |
