Neither. You don't NEED to build 5 of them. The old maxim needed to be spammed or it wasn't effective. That's never been true for the mg42

What makes Grens oppressive is their lmg upgrade. Its rather cheap (compared to Obers lmg or 2 bars), has an incredible good timing, good performance and has no extra cost, cause its implemented in the main tech.
Nobrainer upgrade on an already decent and cheap mainline infantry. Has to be put behind t2 imo (while compensating Grens k98 with a small buff) and/or nerfed dps wise.
It's a strong upgrade to be sure but I don't think it's oppressive. Grens are still the most fragile mainline until they get to vet 3, and even then they still are far from tanky
The lmg42 would be OP as fuck on any other mainline. On grens it's fair IMO because of their fragility |

To respond to OP the maxim might be inferior to MG-42 (and that is by design) but it is simply not that bad and it see plenty of action.
If the maxim was brought to MG-42 level soviet would rolfstomp OKW and if the MG-42 was brought to maxim level USF would rolfstomp Ostheer.
OP didn't say to buff it to mg42 levels and the person you responded to said this:

Here is a random video with a 6(?) maxim build, you are welcomed to try a 6 mg42 build see how it goes for you and come back with results.
Why would you ever need 6 mg42s? 2 is almost always enough. Can easily ask the opposite question, go back to the old maxim days and try building just 2 maxims
They should've kept the old price when they nerfed it. The nerfs were more than enough to kill the spam, the setup time nerf especially

I don't think you understood what I said.
I meant that if you play against OKW, it is a viable tactic for you to use hmg on them because for the first 5-10mins of the game (barring some masterful micro of kubel that only <1% of players possess) they cannot under any circumstances respond to that. No mortar, no smoke. Maybe flanking I guess, but a good player will make 2 hmgs to defend mid and flank.
You didn't mention mortars or smoke the first time, but okay. That's why I brought up indirect and used the USF example. Doesn't really matter |
