I'm still thinking that giving them a meatshield tank in the form of the Jumbo would be a better alternative than cheap and borderline OP gimmicks for the regular Sherman but that's just me I guess.
USF does need a meatshield tank. The only problem with your suggestion is that there isn't a model for the Jumbo, unless Relic would be willing to use the model for the Easy 8 as the model for the Jumbo. I'd be happy with even a non-doctrinal Easy 8 (make it a side upgrade on Tier 3). If that happened, Rifle Company could replace the Easy 8 with the Pershing which would help that commander greatly. |
They absolutely should not be self-spotting, that would give you an incredible map-hack ability that would put the old t-70 at vet-3 to shame.
I think they're fine to frustrating, particularly due to the "can shoot through obstacles" issue.
I'd rather see the pak43 be turned into an actual emplacement and no longer be able to shoot through obstacles, with a timed ability like the 17 pounder.
The old T-70 (and 222) were mobile, had something crazy like a 80-90 sight range and could be used offensively. The AT guns aren't mobile and could only be used defensively so it wouldn't be any sort of map-hack ability. I don't use them so I don't know what the current range is.
Of the two, the only one that I've found annoying is the UKF one, and that's only because I don't usually get any indirect when playing as OKW.
I realize the game is just a game and not intended to be a simulation, but it is really odd that an AT gun needs a spotter like artillery does, and that AT guns are damaged by armor piercing rounds, when normally the damage to it would be to the crew and not the AT gun itself. Infantry should be able to decrew either a PAK 43 or a 17lbr. Engineers should be able to destroy a decrewed AT gun. |
If you had a blank sheet to overhaul the Pak 43 and 17 Pounder, what would you do with them?
You're limited by the engine, so you can't make them mobile or give them new animations. Beyond that though, you can change anything you like.
In general, I think they're fine right now. There are differences between the two but they're both pretty usable, and both great for punishing YOLO charges.
One possible change would be to make them self-spotting at max range. It seems really strange to have a game engine that requires a spotter for a direct fire weapon. I'd also make their range equal to any of the direct fire weapons that shoot at them.
Both of them should be able to be decrewed by attacking them with infantry. They should be highly vulnerable to infantry, grenades, or HE rounds and not easily damaged by AP rounds.

I tried this commander in a couple of 4v4's and found that I bled manpower too much. It might be too good in 1's or 2's, as blackdream claims, but in a larger game it isn't as good as any of the Tiger commanders, IS-2, etc, or even other some other USF commanders.
I realize that 4v4 takes a back seat to 1's or 2's but would like to see something done for USF in those modes and see it done in a way that doesn't mess up 1's or 2's. It gets boring playing Jacksons, double Scotts and infantry blob every game. Giving the USF a Pershing unlock similar to the OKW KT unlock would help, and the fuel requirements would be large enough that it wouldn't affect 1v1's.
I know some people are complaining about this patch, but to me it seems like one of the best ones that we've had in terms of balance. It's also been much better in terms of bugs than a lot of patches. Also, how many other games are still getting patched five years after release? |

His fifth unit was an ambulance. I used it several times. I also used his second and third ambulances. He stopped buying them after discovering that they don't make a great front line unit. |
Confirmed with "CPU - Standard" that he is a pro COH2 LOL. I had a random guy who was playing soviets and first unit he build was 2 mortars and fuel caches. I just watch his mortar die and his caches destroyed only to see him rage quit.
Just won a 1:04 match on Essen where the other player on my side had a build order of rifle, IR pathfinder, mortar, mortar.......Spent most of the next hour getting pummeled by two players. I think I lost around 300 models. |
Does someone know the player "CPU - NonStandard"?
He always instantly leaves after typing "my team weak gg" in chat
- if he doesnt like your build order
- if you dont follow his commands ("we all rush to fuel, nobody goes to ammo or VP point!") or dont follow his ping spam
- if you dont go t1 as soviets
- if he loses a squad early
- if you dont control all 3 VPs 5 minutes into the match or
- if he gets rekt (which happens a lot )
CPU-Nonstandard plays a lot, I've had several matches with and against him in the last couple of days since I started playing again. I didn't realize how volatile he was until he started pinging a VP over and over. At the time, I just had one rifle squad there (everything else repairing/reinforcing from last battle). On the other side was a MG-42 in green cover. He kept pinging until I typed "That's what I would do if I was stupid..." which didn't get a warm response.
I did have something that would've been funny happen yesterday, if it had happened to someone else. I had a teammate say "I'm going Calliopes." I assumed that meant he would get one or two. No, once he got the CP's for Calliopes, he built nothing else. I looked over at his side of the map when it was collapsing and saw a mass of Colliopes in the backline, at least until the teammate on his side collapsed and someone dove a P4 and Panther into the mass of Calliopes. |

At 9:50, I barraged some infantry. As the barrage was finishing, the ZIS was hit by a mortar and flamer. An ambulance from a teammate showed up at the same time and started healing the models. |
