LMAO you are wrong on so many levels I doubt if you actually watched the video and even if you did, I doubt you can understand what the video was about.
Basically it said that: RTS ShOULD NOT be balanced around competitive symmetrical statistic designs BUT on actual artistic choices as seen on Starcraft II which is actually what COH SHOULD be (factions that end up playing fair against each other while being COMPLETELY different in terms of unit types).
Also, saying that
Is a completely sterile and unproductive view, because it does not begin to touch the reality of 2022 RTS games. The truth is that RTS games want to be like AOE (which was the best RTS ever in 1990 terms) and be linear, every faction being the same, and the game coming down to build order vs build order and speed/skill aka they cater to really professional and really one-sided people.
COH almost broke that curse with WFA (and please don't start the bullshit with OP and UP units) but over the long run it tends to be like another cookie cutter game that caters to babies. That's where I also make the claim that I have been talking about it for YEARS.
So you want an extra large king tiger that shoots nukes and that would make coh2 a mainstream game?
Something about this video annoys me. Basically attributing causaulity all over the place to create a picture that fits his "campaigns are kewl, units should make big boom!!!!!!!" narrative, when in reality the reason that RTS are niche these days is just the fact that popular gaming culture has happened to develop into a different direction for reasons regarding the fundamental gameplay principles underlying the differen genres (e.g. teamplay as core feature is a must have, accessibility needs to be high etc.). No, better campaigns wouldn't suddenly lead to RTS becoming mainstream games. It's so obviously not true. Anyone who is in touch with what young people are into gaming wise should know this. It's also annoying how he bases his anti multiplayer claims mainly on his own viewerbase, when his entire channel is dedicated to RTS CAMPAIGNS.
Edit: Okay I finished it and it has only gotten worse at the end. His point about RTS having to be sandbox...because Minecraft was succesful? what?
Essen Steelworks - Too tight in city area. RNG shitfest.
La Gleize - Too big and weird fences everywhere.
Lorch Assault (West Wall) - If I get bottom I /L.
Vielsalm - Too big and wonky city fighting.
City 17 - Worst 4v4 map ever made by far.
Total Games: 40177
Games on Nordwind: 2854
Odds to get Nordwind: 2854 / 40177 = 7.1%
Games on Lienne: 3905
Odds to get Lienne: 3905 / 40177 = 9.7%
So what are the odds you get Nordwind 3 games in a row?
So what are the odds you get Nordwind 5 out of 6 games in a row?
So what are the odds you get Lienne 3 out of 5 games in a row?
These aren't the odds for anyone... The total number of games includes games played by people who have vetoed them. Nice "data" though.
L2P noob. I am way better than you. Git Gud son. Did I miss any of the usual detritus?
I openly admit I have no idea WTF I am talking about. I did not read or am too dumb to understand all of the previous posts. But you are wrong.
END TRANSLATION
I am not trying to crap on your post. I just found it really funny how you worded it.
You did make a good point in between your post. ELO Hell increases with the number of players. You stated 2v2 does not have this issue from your experience.
If you stop looking at your rank and others, you will play a lot of shit games you have ZERO chance of winning and you will definitely NOT have fun. You will only question the depths of stupidity the human mind can achieve and will probably become a racist. How many games do I have to sit thru hearing "Chinese are retards!!!" being spammed in chat before I become one of these idiots?
It is so weird, I have a lot of free time and I find it totally unacceptable that Relic waste it. Most of you have much less free time and here you sit advocating for Retardic to continue wasting that precious time. That cool aid must taste really good.
OP is literally talking about 2v2. Honestly think you should take a step back from the game. I'm not trolling you. Your rants here just seem completely unhealthy.
Google Translation: I know nothing of this topic, you are all full of shit. I will completely disregard all of the data presented to me to make a snide comment about my superiority.
1. I know a lot about it because I've played this game a shitload in 1v1 and 2v2. I can pretty accurately estimate people's rank just from playing them with no prior knowledge. 2. Idk why people always ascribe a superiority complex when you call them out on their skill level (which is highly relevant in this thread). I never said anything about myself. I just said that the people in this thread complaining are probably not as good as they think they are. 3. What are the data? Your weird anecdotes about dropping ranks?
The levels of delusion in this thread... Maybe you're just not that good at the game? It's only an issue if you make it one by constantly blaming the matchmaking. I can't comment on 4v4 but in 2v2 elo hell is not a thing. Yes, it is tedious to get your rank out of the 4digits but it's reliably doable. Ranks are actually very accurate in 2v2 and 1v1 in my experience (with a few people being over- or underranked because they play during weird hours or do meme strats).
Edit: I also think it's very advisable to stop looking at your rank at all. Just play and try to improve. Literally no one cares about another person's CoH ranks.
Well for starters we need to quit pretending its pre-alpha. The game is less than a year from launch. It should have already (or more likely already has) started beta.
What you see now is going to be very close to the final product. (especially since we have been getting updates for 6 months and nothing of note has changed in any of the reveals)
Just look at the MASSIVE improvement from SP alpha to MP alpha to see what's possible in a few months.
Alright, funny how I assumed it was a thing for CoH2 as well, I swear. Sorry for the misinformation I haven't played CoH2 for some time.
Well, we were all half correct/wrong, I think the interesting question is whether hearing footsteps is a good thing. Of course sound being a relevant source of information is a central element of CoH but I personally think the footsteps thing goes too far.
"Audible Footsteps
Footsteps in the fog of war give away infantry positions. Predicting infantry movement is a major part of CoH and hearing the footsteps prevents this layer of depth."
You have this in both previous games, also units speech in fog of war is a thing.
Is it really? Is it possible in CoH1 and/or CoH2 to determine infantry positions in the FoW? At least it's easier in CoH3.
