Uhm you do understand that Stalin murdered a couple of million of his own people before WW2 even happened?
Americans sent to concentration camps all in whom the blood flowed Japanese and who seemed to them unreliable. India, under the control of Britain was dying of hunger. Germans ... well, there were Nazis. So what? Mankind, well, it is not white and fluffy.
You do realise that Stalin invaded Poland together with Nazi Germany?
Stalin offered to send troops to Czechoslovakia. He sought an alliance with France and Britain against Hitler. In the USSR even visited the French Commission, which, however, had no real opportunities.
If Stalin not divided Poland with the Germans, the whole of Poland would become a German province. As a result the borders of Germany-Soviet Union would not have passed through Poland, but on the border of Ukraine and Poland.
Partition of Poland with Hitler is an attempt to shift the boundaries of the Nazis as far as possible. Something similar happened in the Soviet-Finnish war. Finnish border is so close that the Finns could bombard Petersburg / Leningrad (the second largest city in the Soviet Union, an important industrial, scientific and cultural center) normal (you don't need wundercannons like Dora) artillery.
You do realize that British forces and American forces raped and plundered and murdered innocents as well, but that we are not taught those things because they won the war?
Numbers are numbers. The Germans have lost ~5.3 million soldiers, and ~1.6 million was taken prisoner of war. If the Soviet Union to use experience of detention prisoners of the Germans themselves...irrevocably German losses would have amounted ~ 7 million.
Not big difference Soviet military who lost ~ 8.3 million is not it? But talking about civilian casualties we have a 10-fold difference. And that's not counting the Jews.
What are you aiming for? That every German soldier was a nazi and thought of every Russian and Jew as Untermenschen?
It does not matter. German soldiers could think anything and did anything not even kill prisoners if he were ordered (really? Well, let's say this is an assumption).
Reich was generally ruthless machine that destroyed tens of millions of human lives. Hitler was not alien from another world. He was democratically selected chancellor. His chosen people. The people supported his ideas and plans. And he did not kill all these people personally. He had an army of assistants. The whole country assistants.
The average German could not to kill anyone. But the average German was for Hitler - for Hitler that divided people into humans and non-humans, for Hitler, who occupied Czechoslovakia, who which unleashed a new war.
This average German, not out on the street, and as befits a civilized Europeans said:
- Hey, Herr Hitler! You've been a good ruler, but you start somewhere to enter somewhere not go where germans people want. Why do not you relax and do anything else?
Or how to do it more often, the elite did not suit Hitler accident, after which quietly changed the rhetoric and policy of the country to a peaceful course.
So, from a historical point of view, it does not matter whether a German soldier ruthless killer or not. It is important to state that this soldier was a ruthless killer.
I looked at one of the series Die Dokumentation: Stalingrad - 3 and hear from the veterans of the Wehrmacht, the confirmation of my thoughts.
You know, it's nothing special. It's like the collapse of the Soviet Union. The party consisted of millions and millions military swore an oath to defend the Soviet people and the Soviet Union itself. But when some people came and said, let's abolish the Union! No one stood up to defend Union, in spite of the oath, and so on.
Deeper in history was Rome, where at one point, the company decided that Rome let alone defend the barbarians from the other. And Rome has fallen.
People may think that everything will be fine and well. But this is not necessarily so.
I think you have watched to many biased documentaries.
So wikipedia biased documentaries now. Wow.
