Thread: Maxim machine gun OP1 Oct 2021, 14:13 PM You know, it's funny. Usually you don't see a single maxim being able to do its job against so much infantry. He didn't pop Sustained Fire. If only you had attack moved you could have easily deathlooped the Maxim. You have to work on your blobbing "skills" my friend. Well that or try things like playing tactically and flanking the MG or even spreading out your troops. In: COH2 Balance

Any damage against it had ought to hurt a bit more. Ofc it's unlikely to happen since the balance team said they're not planning on making any big updates or anything. EDIT: I don't know the stats off the top of my head, but if the Leig and Pak have a higher reinforce cost than 15, then I do think the 120mm had ought to be more expensive for consistency's sake. Getting 2 regular mortars will outperform a single 120 and you can get them much sooner. Also Shock Troops are amazing when combined with 80MM Mortar Smoke and are a better investment and will have more of an impact on a match than the 120MM mortar would during that phase of the game. Its not a bad unit by any means but it is not OP either. Playing in 4's, if I have to deal with an opponent that is obviously being very turtle-y and spamming support weapons, I'll get one mortar. If it continues, and there's a lot of it, I'll get a commander with a 120mm and use them in conjunction to each other. I think a 120mm and a 80mm would outperform two 80mms easily, because the 80mm can spot for the 120mm and the 120mm can do big damage across weapon teams while the 80mm can follow up quickly with its smaller but more quickly fired shots. The statement that "all meta doctrines have it" is obviously hyperbole, but the reason it's popular is because it counters lazy Wehr MG spam gameplay. Also, those commanders also have other very good abilities in addition to the 120mm. Correlation is not necessarily causation. The commanders with 120mm I know off the top of my head are: Shock Army (Gets shock troops and t34/85s which are obviously quite good), Guard Motor Coordination (also gets t34/85 but also guards and mark target/ vehicle repair), and Defensive Doctrine (includes DsHK, mini AT, and AT Overwatch for a very nice spread of useful abilities). It's not as if these doctrines are picked only because of the 120mm, because they aren't. It's situationally good against support weapon spammers and braindead blobbers who keep their entire army bunched up in a neat little ball for mortars to decimate. People that play aggressively are able to avoid damage from the 120mm just by moving around. I don't know how the 120mm is in 1v1s but in teamgames it's easily countered if the enemy is actually agressive, because the mortar doesn't fire fast and accurate enough to do a lot of damage to a bunch of squads spaced out and actually pushing towards it. Its survivability was already nerfed by removing a squad member specifically because it can retreat with only one entity left. The 120 mortar doesn't do more damage on direct hit than a normal mortar does. They both do 68hp on a direct hit. The only difference is the area of effect is bigger for the 120mm. Nerfing the AoE with nothing in return is not the way to go. Reinforce cost is supposed to be "unit cost divided by model count divided by two" making it 31mp. I think that at 31mp it would be pretty steep for a support weapon team but 15mp is definitely too cheap a reinforce for what the 120mm is. In: COH2 Balance

Armor protects against all small arms weapons (except a few that have higher than the standard 1 penetration, like the LMG 42) at all ranges equally. It has a unique gameplay characteristic and it fits their model. Ah I see. And SMGs probably aren't going to be doing a lot of damage even in close range against some heavily armored opponent I suppose. In: COH2 Gameplay

Because in order to drop shocktroops models, you actually have to damage them enouth, they wont drop models instanly just because enemy squad managed to lay 4 hits with the voley on 1 model. Its like having your 1 model instantly being sniped just because it was first to enter into enemy LoS, this is the bad RNG roll of rec.acc. If mentioned unit had armor, then it would have been hit aswell but damage would have been determened by the armor it had, rather then how lucky you are. For example, imagine 10 shots being fired with 0.8 accuracy. With armor, you have 80% chance to hit the enemy and damage enemy recieved is based on the armor value it has. With received accuracy your squad accuracy is calculated based on the enemy received accuracy. So you might hit enemy 10 times or 0 times, based on the RNG rolls. Sooo wait. If this method reduced RNG compared to the current version, why exactly did people want it removed. I guess because it was unrealistic (which is understandable). Though it does seem like it would promote flame and MG spam if the two completely negated armor. EDIT: Less affected by the armor I mean. In: COH2 Gameplay

I belive it had different philosophy behind it to achive simular results we have right now. At very least RNG in inf combat was less persistant, I belive that back in the day there wasnt any kind of "recieved" accuracy or if it was, then it was less impactfull. There was less RNG in regards of how inf combat worked, for instance situation where 1 model was instantly sniped by voley fire was less common and so on. You can play original soviet campaign to see what game was on release, because I belive non of the core balance changes changed unit stats. Hmm. But how exactly does the armor factor into reducing RNG though? If anything I feel like it would be more of the same. Or maybe everything was less lethal? I'm still kind of confused.
