90 muni for a a single squad isn't worth it. Unless maybe vetted Obers or fallshirms. But for grens or volks, or just new Obers? naah to expensive, I'll wait for a better target or just use ordinary fire against static emplacements (if they are in range.)
Fast moving AFVs are a risky business. So is going for a flank on a Jagd when you are unsure of what is behind it. You have to consider the risk and the reward in all engagements.
I suggest it because in my own experience those get the B-4s just as often as the Stuka strikes does.
You cannot sufficiently cover the B-4 with AT-guns, mines and defences to stop it getting wiped by a large and fast enough flank. Doing so would be wasteful of resources.
So you try to negate that threat by pushing on the enemy and keeping him where I want him to fight. Preferably in my cone of fire.
Plus Stuka isn't a granted counter (unless luftwaffe supply) because the cost of it is so huge, especially considered the need for using tons of muni on your units as axis. (lmg, schreks, riflenades and so on)

Sometimes I wonder do people really think that German Army during WW2 produced different equipment for Eastern and Western front. Had different units and so on...
Not only were they same army but also huge number of Soldiers and equipment actually served on both Eastern and Western front.
OKW, OKH, army groups, sectors, divisions, etc.. are just command structures not different armies with different equipment and soldiers. (mostly)
Correct, BUT, there was a big difference between the structure and makeup of different divisions and corps, and when you bring in the Kampfgruppe into it all you can make a great bunch of different factions.
Same goes for all major nations involved I guess.
Edit: We all seem to agree autheticity isn't in the game (I agree) and that this is not a problem (agree with that too, balance is more important). Will Quinn ever stop claiming that it is, or do I have to choke him first? |
You don't have to keep all units moving at all times. You need to keep them seperate enough not to become an inviting target.
And yes tanks should be kept moving around, the long fire animation and long travel time means you about the same warning time as when facing Katyusha or Stuka zu Fuss, and only a direct hit (or really close) will do any considerable damage.
Yes one single unit having a huge impact is kinda a general problem of the game. But it only does so if you allow it to, this is the ultimate end to blobbing and turtleing.
However (as I pointed out earlier in this thread) its slow rotation, long reload and lack of accuracy (lest you build no mines, hold 2 munipoints and play heavy t-2) you can negate its effect. Even though you might not see the opportunity to fully destroy it.
As for wrecking it, what gets me most of the time is any type of quick moving AFV, like a P-4, P-2 or Puma.
|
Twice the number of players??? And most are n00bs?
Im heading over to the official forums balance section to see the fallout! |
Ofc you go heavy Volks into Obers! It is the most cost effective way to survive until you get heavies. You could get Puma or some light vehicle but that will delay your heavies by a couple of mins, so it is much better just to go heavy infantry.
OKW is a blobbing faction, but not because of all blobbers go for that one faction for some strange reason, but because it is the best way to play the faction.
The design is flawed just like the Sovs are. |
No matter the chance of this getting implemented in the base game, there is always modding...
Nonetheless I like these suggestions. Having more varied units at your disposal and instead of your playing being set in stone by a single choice of commander we can now see economy being the restriction on what units you call out. "I can get a Panther now or an Elephant in 5 mins.."
Decisions like that promotes varied play in my mind.
With these teching changes, and subsequent changes to unit cost for balance you can get an extension of the mid-game. And a less focus on heavy call-ins.
I don't know about others but I love those games where medium tanks ping at eachother and placement and movement is more important than sheer weight of armour and firepower.
On an unrelated and slightly off-topic note, I would like to see a steep increase in price for all heavies and TDs, maybe a little on for the only intermediate med-heavy tank, the Panther.
(And yes I do realise this is an issue for OKW, rework on that faction would have to be done.)
Rather than 8-10 mins of early, 4-5 mins of mid and 30 mins of lategame. Id love to see the mid game extended to be much longer. Make the heavies a rare and powerful sight! Get some love for the P-IV, Stug, T-34, Sherman. |

Hitler's Wehrmacht: German Armed Forces in Support of the Fuhrer, James Steiner 2013.
And then there is a couple that to my knowledge are only availible in Swedish that are quite interesting. (And of course many many more that I don't remember right now. Beevors book on Grossman is really good for Beevor.)
I can recommend for my swedish friends, Lennart Samuelssons great case study "Tankograd: Den ryska hemmafrontens dolda historia". Freely translated "Tankograd: The hidden history of the Russian Home Front."
Great case-study of the development of Cheylabinsk from being a small trading town to one of the biggest producers of AFVs during the war. Economic issues, repression, fast development and a good study on how the USSR went from civil war in peasant country to industrial heavy weight in just 20 years. |
I see a real danger of buffing any allied things to compensate for the luftwaffe in teamgames. Doing so would only mean breaking the allies to compensate for a single broken commander.
And it is broken. Don't fight against nerfing it since it would then become less used. If it is broken it is broken.
Lessen the muni you get from it, currently 30 per cache so that is about 150 muni for 200 mp, make it similar to lend lease, ie planes fly over the enemies lines. Which gives you the chance to counter it with AA and M3.
Maybe AA mode will be used then?
As off now it is a no-risk high-reward ability. granting 3-4 mins of muni for 50 seconds of MP or 1,5 - 2 mins of fuel for the same. |
Most bullshit is Luftwaffe feeding CAS.
It is 30 muni per box. One luftwaffe can feed 2 CAS who can than out spam more strikes, strafes, bombs than Nigeria can spam death notes from relatives.
It has zero counters and as it only costs about 50 seconds of muni, (no pop so no decrease) it can also fuel you into 15 mins KTs teamed with one or two panthers.
It is the most broken aspect of the game at this moment. |
REPOST from old B-4 thread. Shorthand guide to counter and or negate the B-4
1) Don't blob. I giggle everytime I see a blob in the LOF. I laugh like a maniac when I see said blob disappear in a cloud of limps and XP markers. Don't blob and 90 muni is expensive for a single Volks, maybe not ober, but definatly the regular infantry.
2) Shift your direction of the main armour strike. What I want to see is the enemy attacking time and time again on the same place. the I don't have to move the Big Beloved B-4. Moving this fattie takes ages. Seriously 20 seconds, but shifting focus and keep moving means I have to reposition it AGAIN and the difficulty for me to effectivly give fire is reduced.
3) If you retreat a heavy tank that is damaged and I don't know where it went, your repair truck might look like a juciy target. Don't place units in obvious places. Equally if you have felt Stalins sledgehammer blow down upon you, you might wanna rethink retreating infantry to your forward HQ. If you love me you will not move the retreatpoint and I get to see your army go flying.
Also if you have a damaged tank and you start seeing recon aircraft, keep moving them around, shoot the plane and stop somewhere nice to repair, this makes me hate you. If this happens I will do a regular strike in your general direction and donate a pound of butter to Gaben so that RNG will bless me with a hit.
4) Call in the Luftwaffe. Fuck you Göring! Fuck your 50kg bomb and fuck your siren. I hate you.
5) Realise that I have the choice of either hitting your rear area or keeping my B-4 snuggly close to my base, but then not reaching more than your frontlines. (Thats from 4v4 not true in certain 2v2 maps. )
6) Fallshirms, I will burn/blow up/piss on any house behind it. Garden them fallshirms for wiping my crew. Also anything that wipes the crew is a bitch, that is stuka zu fuss, (range a problem? see 5) ) Light artillery barrage, which used to destroy it aswell, now it will most likely decrew it. Fragmentation runs will not decrew it most of the time, put that muni somewhere else.
