All this talk about buffing Ostheer units but the obvious and easier solution would be to roll back some of the changes that were made in the commander patch in december.
Eh, I disagree. Most of those changes are commander specific and rolling them back would be a terrible idea. Ostheer's weaknesses have less to do with allied commander choice and more due to them being somewhat left behind in terms of their tech / unit structure which hasn't changed all that much since release. They are barely balanced against soviets right now and have a tough time with brits / USF due to your core infantry simply being inferior at nearly all stages of the game, especially vs. brits, and especially if they decide to do advance emplacements and you picked a commander without a LefH to counter it.
The only things I think really need to change are a nerf to assault engineers, and a nerf to pathfinders so they don't come out immediately, make them like IR Pathfinders that have a 50 second cooldown. |
The death of the Ostheer puma is kind of sad, instead of making it part of teching it should have just come at 4-5CP or and be build-able from T0. The reason it was so heavily used before was because it was a call-in without tech requirement though. |
Playing Royal Arty a lot, one thing I've noticed is that concentration barrage can be used even if you don't have LOS on a target, such as an OKW HQ. Now, this doesn't work against infantry that are highlighted in the fog of war, or vehicles, but bunkers and OKW HQs can be targetted by the barrage this way, which feels very unfair as you don't have to actually spot the HQs / bunkers with an infantry unit to use the barrage. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not but it doesn't seem very balanced considering it's technically an off-map ability even though it's using your own base artillery.
Also, just another thing I've noticed is that the Sexton is a little too good right now as well, some scatter increase might be necessary to bring it in line with other self propelled artillery. |
Ostheer is not in a good place right now, OKW is fine. Other than that I don't think there's that many major balance issues. Ostheer could use a few buffs here and there, such as Pgrens, Assgrens and Grenadiers.
Ostheer has many strengths but in my experience the core difficulty is scaling infantry into the late game, since Ostheer lacks the elite infantry that OKW has that allow you to stay and compete. Ostheer vehicles are in good shape though, maybe a buff to the Ostwind or a price reduction is in order.
I've been playing a lot of Ostheer lately and trying to make it work the main issues are with your core infantry just not being able to keep up into the late game.
I don't think "allies OP" is the issue, it's that Ostheer has glaring weaknesses that need to be addressed. |
I've been using the Ostwind a lot when the opportunity presents itself (control of fuel) and it's not anywhere near as bad as I expected it to be.
Once you get it some veterancy it becomes a real reliable support vehicle. Is it as good as the centaur? Probably not but it fills its role nicely. Maybe a buff, a SMALL buff either in its price, or in its scatter might make it a bit better at lower vet levels, but I don't think it's the worst unit. It does a lot of health damage and when supported with your infantry it is quite good.
Sometimes getting out an early Ostwind before there's any real counters can be very effective, but the issue is if you're playing from behind an Ostwind won't help all that much
Another main reason the Ostwind is not used a lot is because a pz IV is only 30 more fuel. Make the Ostwind 80 fuel and people will start using it, because right now there's no reason to get one when you can wait 1 minute and get a Pz IV that will give you AT and solid AI for just a little bit more resource. I think 280-300mp / 80 fuel is a good pricepoint for the Ostwind without any major balance changes. |
Stug is the cheapest dedicated TD in the game.
Su-85 is 350/130. Stug is 280/90.
Stug is more comparable to the Su-76, but with more health and slightly more expensive and similar tech timing.
Panther with 60 range would be cancer.
Jackson cannot self-spot anymore, it has range but it needs combined arms to be effective.
Panther isn't over-priced for what you get either and its frontal armor makes it well worth the price.
Overall another thread where the same player (of course without having his playercard linked) whining about the same exact things. |
One of the most intense 2v2s I've ever played. Very hard fought battle, kudos to the axis team for taking it so far, Sextons saved the day wiping any squads attempting to cap VPs.
I thought the game was lost very early as my teammate neglected to get AT to counter axis LV play and almost quit but we somehow managed to hold onto the VPs and drain them down, at the end it was something like 5vps to 4vps with the mid vp neutral. |
I completely agree, Oka River Winter and Rzhev Winter are terrible maps because the ice seperates portions of the maps and disallows flanking and rotating (unless you want to risk your tanks getting oneshot through the ice). They would be much better maps if the ice was removed imo.
I'd also like to see another revamp for Lienne Forest (and Winter variant) that opens up the forest more. Vehicles get stuck on every one of the 1000 trees (south side mostly) and the forest lanes discourage flanking. Some lanes (like the river from the south base) look wide enough for tanks but actually aren't. The middle area should have more sight blockers or cover I think. MG spam is super hard to counter, especially as OKW.
Agreed on both points. The ice on Oka River make supporting either side of the map from the other a risk, if there was more land in the middle of the map it would be a lot better. Also curious to how a winter version of Lienne would open up the map because like you said, there's limited paths for vehicles to get into the forest on the normal summer version and I hope a winter version would open it up a bit. |
Awesome, all of these maps look excellent and I hope we will see them eventually, especially the 4v4 Brody tank war, that one looks incredible and we badly need another 4v4 map. Lienne forest winter also looks good, what other significant changes does it have over the normal lienne forest map outside of the re positioned fuels?
It's good to see some suggestions for more 3v3 maps as well, specifically maps that are just for 3v3. |
Honestly, I just have a feeling these news commanders are going to make balance pretty painful for a few weeks / months after they're released. I hope that we don't see a repeat of the situation with JLI earlier this year with the changes to MP40s / Fusiliers / the soviet airborne doc.
USF commander is the weakest of the bunch, but it has good qualities. That said all of these commanders are very solid and will likely immediately become the new meta for most players. |
