M-42 already has a camo/first strike bonus and vehicle tracking as a vet 1 ability.

Removing the canister shot from the M-42 makes it even more useless. After all, you have non commander ZIS-3, which is better in performance and has a useful anti-infantry ability. Take the M-42 for an ambush shot? Take the ZIS-3 camouflage commander.

M-42 is designed to counter light vehicles and light tanks, it's performance in that role just fine.
It cheap cost effective with lower pop and does not require tech. It's fine.

Honestly this type of toxicity doesn't contribute to anything. I think Jae gave a very clear response earlier:
... Canister rounds were intended as a self defense/general defensive tool with limited uses in ambushes/supporting other units in said ambush - that mark was clearly missed. A unit should not be able to perform well against all units in both an offensive and defensive role - that inherently asks for it to be spammed.
There: mistake admitted. I credit the balance team for searching for a proper solution instead of outright removing the ability.
I personally think 35 range keeps canister as a strong (albeit situational) ability, especially if we consider the M-42's role and cost. It allows you to turn defensive engagements into your favor, punish your opponent if he wants to harrass your M-42, destroy garrisons and kill squads that retreat through the M-42's arc (seen the latter done by VonIvan multiple times). A good player will find a use for Canister, even now it's harder to use.

Yes, it is so fine that before the appearance of the canister shot, no one used the M-42 this unit was buried and forgotten. And overnerf this ability again killed a unit. Let's not build an illusion here and just remove the M-42 from all the commanders and replace it with more useful abilities.

Check the patch notes, the canister shot was not the only buff M-42 got.
The unit was over performing for cost and was adjusted, it does not need the canister shot to be useful and it good in its role: to counter light vehicles and and light tanks.

Are you serious now? Spend a full commander slot for light vehicles / tanks counteraction with which non commander the ZiS-3 fighting well? Or with which PTRS penals are perfectly fighting. Whatever tier you have taken.

If you have no need for the M-42, pick another commander.

They are pretty competent actually, simply some of the ideas and fixes originate from ordinary lack of imagination.

And T2 soviets have *drumroll* ZiS-3.
Both of these units completely overshadow M42 currently, again.

M-42 was over-performing after revamp and the decision to nerf was correct.
With the M-42 one can keep his Penal for AI. If one does not like the M-42 then one should simply not call it in.
M-42 is useful for what it does so its its tracking.
As for your suggestion you have to argue it with Jae for Jett (edited name. my apologies but I was doing something else at the time )who has a different opinion. (check post17)
