5 - Engies

I barely use them.

Mostly for artillery and high value targets like snipers.
Also in the mid game I pack all my engis into one group for easier repairs.

i m still thinking about how many control groups to be assigned to inf units

for easier flanks i did 1-1st rifle/Gren etc.
2-2nd etc.

however then i don't have any for vehicles left

arty and pios are a must imo

for the most time i only had tanks on control groups

1 - Sniper/Ambush squad that needs babysitting
2 - ATG's
3-7 - Vehicles
8-0 - Artillery (i start with 0 and work my way down for arty)

I've done this since pretty much day 1 and I can't live without this layout.

Simple but effective for me:

1-2) mainline infantry

3) most important vehicle (anti tank gun if no important vehicle is on the field)

4) pioneers except for OKW, there it's my LeIgs if I have one

But I don't think there is a "general recipe" ofc. Some people don't want to or can't play with control groups. Or they are good at using a LOT control groups at same time but personally I feel like it would get out of hand and backfire if I would use 5+ control groups

How do you reach all the way across the keyboard to 0 without looking?

On the example of the USSR:
1 - main infantry (usually two squads of Shock Troops)
2 - main tanks (usually two SU-85s)
3 - engineers
4 - support squad (usually one squad of conscripts for critical engine damage, this is all that conscripts are capable of in the late stage of the game)
9,0 - artillery support (Katyusha, ML-20)
