At least give players a choice to untick coldtech in automatch

Eg: Adding insult to injury, volkschreck blobs could effortlessly blow up your vehicles in the middle of blizzards whilst your inf huddled around weak fires. (Cold Package upgrade gave them insulation and the schreck)

It was as close to universally despised as a mechanic as almost anything in COH2. It will not be coming back if Relic/Balance team are remotely sane.

Well, when the game was insanely thematic via soviets vs wermacht I'd argue it was a fun mechanic along with ice. Really emphasized how much everything sucked and was lethal. By the time USF/OKW came around it just wasn't the same, probably because a lack of design around the blizzards and was considered a moot point.
I'd love to try a CoH2: Classic addition, to remind me of just how busted everything was.

I'll keep it short:
GOD NO
I second this.
Given how I've never seen a cold tech match before, it was a bit of a novelty. but that's about it.

Make heavy snow slowing down infantry in smaller areas of effect
I feel the point is to have environment effects that affect play. But not too heavy handed that slows down the match too much.

If anyone's interested they can look at the brackets here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ljvzjv2KP_xLehmfj1gkGzYacoSkTsnsd8Zf3X9RQzU/edit?usp=sharing
First day we had AE and Elpern casting on AE's channel, Olvadi on his twitch channel. Day 2 had myself and Siberian on Siberian's channel, The Angry Dutchman on his Twitch, and Romeo on the 3rd place match!

But 3v3 and 4v4? Infantry running around vamp fires while every side gets a "free" barrage on the enemy? Not a great idea.
It was a quite nice idea, but the game overall is just way too fast paced to suddenly slow everything down for a minute.
I'd rather have more map features like deep snow and mud with slower moving speeds come back.

I think making blizzards entirely random and much much shorter duration.

agreed. id like for the freezing to be a slower but constant consideration too. like, maybe instead of dropping men asap it scaled, starting with slower rof and then moving slower then finally models dropping, but more or less having to work to get to that point

Units being encouraged to huddle around fires and getting blown up by indirect, no thanks

I always felt it was a clever concept of building fire pits around the area making your opponent guess where you were, or choosing to launch a sneaky offense during the blizzard though. Indirect fire in 4's could be countered by not being in the obvious spot no?
Freezing to death on retreat could probably be looked at, weird to be sprinting your ass off then just keel over.

KV1 is getting hard-nerfed.
It'll go back to never being used again
