This is a doctrine ability, If Soviets choose any doctrine with this ability they don't have access to IS2,ISU-152 or KV-8. It's only one extra gun than before and conscripts have low armour.

Did I say that? I just want to say that I for myself find early game very difficult as Ost since patch (don't play much sov though).
Tell me what to do against PPSH/Sniper. Damage output is so fucking high. Those PPSH blobs even tend to kill your retreating squads.
Light Vehicles? Doesn't work.
Pgrens? Doesn't work.
g43 grens? Doesn't work.
MG42? Not at all.
The Soviet guard/cons+sniper issue isn't new for Ost players, mg42+mortars or being sneaky and flanking snipers with scout cars are the best ways to deal with it. |
Those ppsh eat your grens and make it impossible to kill sniper. That's my Problem. Plus the cp nerf to guards is irrelevant, because you still can not use scoutcar against snipers because now there are AT nades everywhere. Happens a lot in 2v2.
BTW: G43 does not help. I used to play G43, but it always seems to come later than ppsh now. Oh and did I mention the snipers?

In the grand scheme of things, sure. But what I mean is, when you open with Grenadiers, you have to made decisions. Am I going to go rifle-grenade heavy, or should I wait for an LMG? What about after? Or should I save up for a Flame Half-Track? Later on you have to consider, should I use a Rifle-Grenade now? Spare for a Mine Field? Save for a Strafing Run?
As Soviets I don't find myself asking these questions, I mindlessly buy PPSh's on all squads and throw molotovs liberally, plant mines when I remember to, and I still sit on piles of munitions. It's part of the game design, Ostheer is inherently munitions heavy, and generally pays more for less. But I don't think it should be that way.
It's not 'mindless' to get the ppsh upgrade, you lose an doctrine ability (like shocks or guards) to get a basic unit upgrade so it should be good FFS. |

I agree, before I'd be able to drive my full health panther past a two ppsh conscript squad and the conscripts had to retreat, but now with that one extra ppsh my full health panther gets destroyed as soon as I get within range of that one extra ppsh. |
I wouldn't take part in any tourney that has the tiger ace the way it is now. It doesn't make sense that the strongest tank in the game costs no fuel. |
The "ridiculous" 45% damage received at vet 2 from previous patches was the only thing that made the scout car worthwhile. Nowadays it just... dies.
Increase the health, armor (smgs destroy scout cars in close quarters surprisingly fast) and manpower cost i say.
I don't know why the devs would get rid of damage gained with vet in a unit as weak as the scout car.
I'd like scout cars to move faster with engine damage, If they get hit by an AT grenade it only takes a second one to destroy them, this would at least give them a chance to retreat. |

If you had a bunch of t34/85s and used one to ram the tiger and the rest to finish it off, that could work. The ISU-152 can be effective because of how slow the Tiger is.
Three SU/85s are overkill because your using fuel up on a tank that even with three of them, are going to struggle against the ace.

Imo I think Guards are okay, just need to push them back a little bit CP wise (or make them non doctrinal and adjust accordingly!).
When I run up against Snipers/Guards as Ostheer, I try the old blob Grens, lots of Grens and a Mg42 and a Halftrack, march on the cutoffs and wait for a tiger. Just keep reinforcing and retreating units back to the blob, makes them harder to target! Strafe run or G43'd do nicely as well. Not very advanced tactics admittedly, but i've got some joy. Can depend on the map.
A Mortar would probably do well, but I usually just go for moooooar Grens vs snipers.
Wouldn't a couple of mortars/barrage ability/howitzer force you to break up that blob and attack though? |
