"Ah great I've built a Brummbar that should help me deal with those rifle blobs, ok now just reverse up they are getting to close .. reverse!!! .. MY GOD REVERSE DAM IT PLEASE WERE GOING TO DIE!!!(unit decides to spin around and face rear to enemy and then stop) oh look an M36..."
That one is clearly a problem with refusing to use reverse button.
The best place to build medic bunker is behind your HQ. First becouse then your medics dont run into the direction of retreating squads just to go back a few seconds later, second becouse it is harder to destroy if somebody rushes your base.
I must say I don't like the whole idea of forced, imitated competition. If organiser wants his tourney to be competitive, he should design the system so that people really want to play their matches. Even the 3rd place ones.
Of course, one can say in rules that forfeiting a match results in a DQ, yet a match played by a player who is forced to do so won't be interesting to watch either way. And you can't even judge if he played with his full potential or not as some of the best players are able to throw completely won games in a matter of seconds.
Btw. Is there any real life sport competition where not showing up for one race/match results in something more than a walkover? I can't think of anything like this.
This thread was about Flap and not about Kimbo and that drama (although they are intertwined somewhat). Would appreciate it if we can keep on track.
Major: coming as a friend of Flap and all the others I met on Mac (Bread "Breadator" included), what can I tell him to help him get his account reinstated?
The issue of accessing coh2.org is not the issues, as he could just create another account (ironic in this situation lol), I think it's more about clearing his name regarding the confusion and accusations.
He can't just create another account. As long as he is officially banned for supposed multi account, any account he makes is going to be out right banned and will prolong kimbo's ban.
What is more, if he decides to create another account his ban may not be lifted even if kimbo is proven innocent. To quote site rules:
1.5 Multiple Accounts
Creating multiple accounts is not allowed and all multiple accounts will be permanently banned.
Actions:
Creating a new account while being banned will increase the duration of the original ban by doubling it.
If the duration of the original ban is permanent, an Admin will perform an IP Address based ban if necessary.
Creating a new account while NOT being banned will result in a warning or a ban, up to 7 days.
I don't know if all posts in this thread are genuine, although I belive we can trust the judgement of CieZ. If all of the posts are genuine and can be trusted, then I worry that we have not 2 but 3 issues, that are in fact enough of a misjudgement to start to talk about screw ups.
The smallest blame goes obviously to the moderation team, yet showing that moderation uses inflexible and ineffective ways to deal with multiple accounts is kind of worrying. This looks like either IP comparison or usage of cookies. I'm sure both of these methods already helped to find multiple double accounts but they are both easy to go around. What is more, they provide lots of false positives. Less in case of cookies, but cases like family or real life friends may happen. Much more in case of IPv4 comparison, as I know places where thousands of people use the same public IPv4 address. That is why neither of these can be used as a proof of account multiplication and thus I would advise to communicate with both accounts before ban to reduce the number of mistakes. In case of account bans, false positives are much worse than false negatives.
Much bigger blame goes to GCS2 team, for a number of reasons:
1. Using insufficient evidence to judge and ban players.
2. Using a report to relic as a way to solve the problems of the tournament.
3. Supporting public lynch
4. Using the judgement of players who benefit from banning their competitors to judge for a ban.
5. Deciding with unneeded hurry when there was time to rethink things and allow for defence.
6. Changing decisions from "political" game ban to gcs2 ban which resulted in double ban.
Of course, there is still some time before last qualifier so when news from this thread are confirmed, the decision to unban a player can still be done. Still, the damage has already been done as said player can't train before that qualifier, at least not in a way allowed by tournament rules, which is important considering he had good chances to qualify. It may be really hard to compensate if he won't qualify.
Still, the biggest blame goes to many community members who decided to jump on the boy and lynch him for their own fun. There is nothing to justify such behaviour, even if it would be shown the accusations were true.
All of these events must look pretty terrible from the suspect point of view. It must be like being a hero "The Trial" by Kafka, as it looks like everybody conspires against him. Still, as an optimist, I believe it is all just a series of mistakes and misjudgements that can be partially helped. I also hope, that no matter what happens to the posts in this thread, it is going to be a good lesson for everyone involved.
You can look me up on steam, a have the same gamer tag as here. I have around 100 games with OST and the best win rate with and rank with them even though I play them way less than USF and UKF.
That still relies on official servers, which, as we know, have a tendency of dying without proper alternatives.
You can also do that with cracked copies of anything. Just sayin' :3
Effective, meaning that it actually makes piracy less common and that it seems to be the only solution that hasn't been dropped by industry after few years of trying hard to convince everybody the new solution really works.
It is obvious that official servers happen to die after some time. Bigger communities always seem to find a way around it though. For example the story of Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance is very interesting. It had it servers closed very soon after release but now its all taken by community and the game not only has multiplayer but it is also better than it has ever been.
As long as the game is supported, there should be no need to alter it in any way. And running cracked software is rather dangerous. So a single player that needs connection to the server is a huge inconvinience. If you need it to play multiplayer, then it is understandable.
Nominally yes, but it's the most pathetic and stupid way imaginable to do so. It also indirectly brands everyone who ever used LAN as pirates, which is simply false.
Well, this is the only effective way industry has come up with so far. And it is not that everybody who likes LAN gaming is labeled pirate, more that the lack of LAN hurts pirates much more than legitimate copy owners.
At least in coh2 you can play single player with servers down. In blitzkrieg 3 for example, you can't.
-can you explain more about law of large numbers ? with example . i didn't get it
The law of large numbers is one of the basic laws of probability theory. What it states, is that if the series of independent random events is long enough (in thousands), then the distribution of results will closely resemble the probability distribution that was used to generate each random value. The larger the number of rolls, the closer these two distributions are going to be.
Mind, that it doesn't work for small numbers. So for example 20 rolls is definitely not enough for this to work. But at 2000 rolls, the distributions should be close enough to create a fair game. And thanks to automatch elo system, it even adds up between subsequent games.
So how does it work in coh2? Coh2 performs enourmous number of rolls each game. Each small arms shot is a rng roll, including every round shot by HMGs and other automatic weapons. In case of bigger guns, there are rolls for scatter, penetration and crits. This creates enough random events for the law of large numbers to work.
How does it effect players? Coh2 uses uniform distribution from 0 to 1 to create its random events, which means that after whole game, a histogram of all numbers rolled should have pretty much equal amount of numbers in all buckets. Here is a histogram showing an example for 10000 random numbers generated using exactly the same distribution as coh2 uses:
Becouse set of numbers rolled by each player resembles the initial distribution, then the distributions of numbers rolled by these players must be very close as well. What it means is that during the whole match, you and your opponent will get lucky pretty much equal amount of times. In effect, a better player will win in the end.
