Keep in mind that Ostheer is designed with pretty solid units. Although there are huge balance problems (mostly HMG42 early and mid game), you just have to support your units with your commanders. Unlike Soviets who have to build their tactics based on their commadner, Ostheer should chose a commander to support their units.
They concept for ostheer is to have solid line infantry (Grens) with good support (HMG42), powerful ATG and versatile assault tropps (Pzgrens) and excellent medium and heavy tanks for late game. So you have to support your units with your commanders. In my humble opinion Ostheer is the best faction designed, but there are HUGE balance problems which makes it very hard to play. |

Joking aside, I get the gist of what you are saying and that feels kinda cool. These are good ideas for new commanders. But from a strategic perspective I don't like global changes.
This would make some upgrades a no-brainer like Bars for Riflemen or LMGs on grens. And what if you want to have a versatile army? Some bazookas, some Schreks, Some shermans with short barrel and some with long barrel etc. The current state also makes unit preservation more and more important, So beside saving your units for their vets, you have to keep them alive for they equipment they have. What what if you want to lets say downgun your Sherman after you realize that you enemy has changed his tactics and now you need a short barrel tan. Same goes for units like Pzgrens. Again, these Ideas seem cool for new commanders. |
Or, we could fix the problem if the MG42 automatically reloaded after an engagement, or if it had a button for it. Because thats really the worst, having your mg in a good position, the enemy blob arrives, it starts reloading after 1 burst...
The technical easyest solution would be a button to reload, or simple make it so that it gets autoreloaded after 10 seconds out of fight, maybe even without an animation.
I have suggested the exact same things back in alpha, either reload after 8 seconds out of combat, or add a manual reload button. Nobody cared... |
Dude even in 1v1 OKW blob is unbearable. At vet 5 you can't suppress them, you can kill them, you can't even reduce their HP. USF blob is also very effective against Ostheer. |
I have mid game problems, I usually do well early and even get tanks sooner than the enemy, but I don't know when to move in and force him to surrender. |

1 AT rifle grenade, 2 bazooka shots and its dead. M20 mines will blow it up to hell. As soviets one AT grenade and and finish it off with guards. It's a very good units IMO, but not over-performing.
Keep in mind that most of the balance problems are because of meta and other balance issues, not the unit itself. For example if Jackson does not under perform versus tigers, This doctrine would not be that much of a problem. |
Tigers in close/urban maps and panther in open maps because of speed and range. in large games you can go T4 as ostheer, and this lets you chose another commander and use other utilities (like Stuka air support if you don't spot any AA, Command tank which is great, defensive doctrine for hull down etc.) |
I agree with the concept. Popcaps need changes, specially for Americans. But the exact numbers need to be discussed. |
