The fact that you need an AT gun at ~7 minutes into the game puts a severe manpower shortage on a faction that desperately needs combined arms to stand a chance against riflemen. Meaning the need for early pak gun makes it far more difficult to get enough infantry out to handle the superior riflemen. Your grens don't stand a chance in hell and you need MGs to control the rifles (meaning you must play defensively as to not let them get flanked: this defensive play is very map dependent. Considering Half the Soviet commanders have tank call ins, and nearly all of them have infantry/tank call-ins, I don't really consider a soviet army limited to basic T34s or Su-85s. In: COH2 Balance |

Try using a sniper in the Wehr vs American match up, I find that it completely changes the early game dynamic in favour of Wehr. You don't understand. I'm not building 3-5 grens because they will lose to riflemen 8 out of 10 times. That leaves MGs and sniper. Early sniper has trouble holding territory so MGs is all I have left to defend. Due to MGs inability to target units unless they are near the center of its arc, defending your territory means you must keep your MGs far back (which is why I said Germans usually have to hide in a corner). If I push out, I'm almost guaranteed to get flanked. Now the sniper is the one redeeming unit the Wehrmacht has vs Americans. However, the fact that it costs 360 MP means I either delay a pak gun for when the deathmachine AA Halftrack comes out ~ 7 min, or forgo the sniper to get the pak out on time. The sniper also needs to have constant defense - grenadier screening with faust and MGs to stop rifle rushes - further cementing the role of defending a small piece of territory. Now this strategy might not be the end of the wold, but half of the maps make a defense strategy very hard to pull off and only a couple actually favor it. Maybe if I didn't have to face an unstoppable anti everything vehicle 7 min in the game I could get more units to deal with his superior infantry, but I can't since I need an AT gun. If the Halftrack was with the captain, that means I wouldn't have to face the very anti-infantry potent lieutenant as well as the Halftrack. If they want to go Halftrack, they build the captain, meaning I have more time to prepare for this ridiculously strong vehicle and also have an easier time dealing with the AT focused Captain. Soviet t1 doesn't have hard AT - the building is purely for anti infantry and utility. The same should be for Americans - where the lieut, car, and MG can provide light AT but mostly provide anti infantry support. It shouldn't be a tier in which you can counter anything the germans can get. In: COH2 Balance |

If American early game wasn't so dominant, people would see that American tanks are indeed a bit weak. Their late game often falls flat due to their tanks having low HP (luckily they can usually close out the game before that or mass enough tanks to overwhelm the AT). In my opinion, Americans must mass tanks late game to compensate for the lack of heavy tanks. In: COH2 Balance |

So in all seriousness, there was nothing I could have done? TBH, it's quite hard to get enough fuel to afford a sturmtiger. I haven't watched the replay, but my bet that was his only (or 2nd) vehicle. I would just mass tanks since his only anti tank weapons will be rakketen or panzerschreck upgrade. It's hard, but you cannot play by trying to barrage or shoot him at range or defend - the sturmtiger excels in breaking up those tactics. In: Replays |

No 80-90 fuel would be too far. I like the proposal to switch it into T3, a lot of people have been floating it around these forums and it does make sense to me. The first HT is the problem, not the subsequent ones. Delaying it into T3 means a 30 fuel effective delay on the first one, giving you more time to get a counter out before it runs rampant. The further bonus is that you won't also have to face the lieutenant (who also has good early game presence) which serves to relieve the massive early game advantage Americans currently possess. While buffing Grens is not my first option, I certainty don't feel like they are performing adequately compared to the other basic infantry of factions. Volks have the advantage of being more durable. The American rifle beats the Grens at all ranges. The Gren vs Conscript match up is alright (which is why I'd hesitate to buff Grens, just throwing it out there if Relic doesn't want to touch riflemen). - I'd rather see American riflemen nerfed in some way. Playing defense with MGs wouldn't be so much of a problem if 60% of the maps didn't favor allies so much and punish that play. In: COH2 Balance |

The most pressing issue I can see is the Wehrmacht vs Americans matchup. Grenadiers are pretty much useless and are only good for getting sniped off my rifle shots. Machine guns are your best bet but are as susceptible as ever to flanks (meaning if you're not in perfect positions, you're going to lose). Sniper also does good... for a time until the inevitable t1 scout car/AA Halftrack comes out. - To further prove my point: almost all ESL games played in the WFA Launch Cup were won by Allied armies with the Germans always struggling to survive. My suggestions: - Buff Grens. They just suck so hard until they get vet 2/3 and get an LMG. Until then, they can barely hold their own vs Conscripts. They get slaughtered hard by American riflemen. But this can have problems with their scaling. - Nerf Riflemen. Honestly I'm pretty tired of these guys. They dominate any infantry they see 1v1 and it forces me to hide in a corner with 3 squads to even stand a chance vs them. Their potency makes it impossible to gain any good map control in the early stages of the game. - Nerf the AA halftrack. This unit is utter horseshit. Comes out 7 min in the game and instantly suppresses everything, has insane Infantry damage, and to top it off, it destroys vehicles too! 221/222 dies like flies to it (even double upgun fails vs 1 hlaftrack). And the OKW Puma will also die unless you have very careful micro. - Move this unit to Captain's t2. Here it has a more fitting role of a potent vehicle that can suppress and damage from afar. Switch it with the pack howitzer. This way, Americans have earlier access to barrage units (and clear buildings which their infantry lack at). At the moment, trying to take this thing on at 7 min in the game is challenging to say the least. - Or severely reduce it's anti tank capabilities. The fact that it can destroy light vehicles with ease makes it a monster to try to kill. Why else does every American player get rush this thing? Also, fix grenades please. Half the time I use the ability to doesn't even work/attempt to throw. It just glows green like someone is throwing (which they aren't) then I eventually have to move and lose the munitions. And an attempt to help rakketen rotation and firing would be nice. It seems to get stuck on terrain and has trouble rotating to fire even at long range; it often needs those precious moments of firing to get themselves comfortable or something. It's actually quite OP; it's able to 1-shot light vehicles (including Puma) and severely damage and immobilize tanks that roll over it. Yea you can't really place it in enemy territory since they can scout you're building it, but the same thing goes for a teller mine. Push him off, lay the mine, and done deal. In: COH2 Balance |
