Thread: Is it impossible to consider another COH2 patch?13 Sep 2023, 18:12 PM It makes 0 business sense for them to not try to save CoH 3. CoH 2 is a masterpiece how it is. It is not going to get fixed with more balance changes. If 10 years of balance patches and even community trying to do it didn't help, then there's nothing left to do to the game. He has been saying he can do a better job. I mentioned working well in a team. Hero developers do not make good games. Many people have contributed way more, but they do not emit this level of self-entitlement and toxicity, many of them have joined Relic and are contributing massively (DevM, Tarnation, Miragefla, Marcus, MonolithicBacon). Nor do they emit an arrogant "I will come in and do everything in 30 mins." This is the type of developer you want to avoid in your team even if he is a hero whiz. And from the players' perspective, this is the type of developer that is going to introduce scope creep, expansion is going to have too many unfinished things with too many bugs, and sunset your CoH franchise. Maybe as a solo indie developer. Many continue to contribute (coh3stats, whiteflashreborn, inverse, AE, tightrope, and many more). Complaining with valid complaints as a gamer is one thing. But claiming you can do a better job as a developer is something totally different. Can you lead a team? Can you manage production and demands from customers and business? Can you get people like miragefla, devm, and the other people to stay in the company? Can you deal with a terrible launch with 50% reviews to try and revive the game? Can you work with artists, designers, and sound to work together on one cohesive vision? Saying you can do a better job for years now, sounds very ridiculous. In: COH3 Central

They are just the truth as I see it. If I were doing prep work to invest in a company, this is what my report would look like. This company is a headless chicken. It appears to have no direction. As I have said since 2017, Relic cant get out of their own way. There is someone/something there in power holding that company back tremendously. FURTHER COH3 OBSERVATIONS: With COH3, Relic took steps to increase the player base. Which we can all applaud. Adding the Total Warhammer thing, increasing TTK, changing cover, retreat paths, tactical pause, etc all helps newer players. This shows that a team somewhere knew what they were trying to accomplish and set goals. How much came from community members is uncertain. The issue came when someone decided to launch the game over a year before it was ready. This destroys the community. Most older players, streamers, etc are looking for something new and more challenging than Coh2. Instead they get an unfinished watered down version of Coh1. 1v1 is in pretty decent shape so many 1v1 players stay. The majority of everyone else leaves. This mass exodus combines with review bombs to paint Coh3 as an unfinished failure. WHAT TO DO NEXT As a manager what do you do now. Do you pivot or double down and try to finish your goal game? WHAT I WOULD DO I would have put every resource on finishing QoL. Within the first month I would have had a roadmap with release dates for Spectate, Replay, etc. I would have focused on more maps in any form. This would at least slow/stop the review bomb bleeding since the game would appear finished. Discuss with top players that are leaving, "What is not fun about playing Coh3. Are you just bored of Coh in general? Are there mechanics we can fix/change to increase excitement." Since Relic has community members talking to them, maybe they have had these talks. I do not see evidence that they have changed anything at all. So either the community members dont have the answers or Relic is not listening to the answers. Members could say but they wont (NDA?). WHAT RELIC DID Dicked around for over a year pretending to care. Pushing out false hope with tiny patches and almost zero QoL updates. Steam reviews are still trash. Community members are still leaving. In Relics defense we have the arguments of: - 1/3 workforce laid off. - Fixing bugs in game. - Owed a DLC before the end of the year. All of these are valid to some extent. But these could have been relayed to the community a year ago. These lies of omission further reduce faith in Relic. They knew a year ago they were not going to fix this game but sit in streams every other months saying how excited they are to get it fixed. So now all of a sudden we are to believe they are going to fix the game after the DLC? Sorry I don't think you'd do anything you said because I don't think you can work well with people. In fact, I think you would destroy the game because most of the company would either quit or try to get you fired.. I think know your place as a gamer not a game developer. Competence is making a good team. And that is precisely what I do not see from your posts In: COH3 Central

Will never understand the need to “get back to COH1” Lower TTK Removing TD roles essentially Huge variations in model health Cover rework against grenades MG suppression mechanic completely changed Snares completely changed Crush being removed Factions missing essential elements again USF with no non doc indirect besides a mortar Brits without a TD The buff to retreating All of these things just make gameplay not fun. They aren’t even balance concerns. Just the gameplay itself is boring, anticlimactic. Most of my complaints probably dont matter to new people or people who barely played COH2 or COH1. But I do not understand people who actively played COH1,COH2 and think COH3 is anything close to its predecessors. Look at the “community” its gone lol. The known streamers are gone. The playerbase is still declining. I can not express to anyone in words. How sad this is. That this franchise is where it is now. I gave COH3 a chance. I played a decent amount of games for all factions. None of those games came close to some of the average, not even good games of COH2 I have had. Being realistic. COH3 will probably not recover. There are way too many good games releasing this winter. For a massive influx of people to comeback. On top of the update cadence that has been shown by Relic. Like people said. After 10 months. There will only be 2 new 4v4 maps. Not even talking about missing elements just maps. I think its okay to say. I wish COH3 never released. At least then the franchise would be remembered for being good while it lasted. Not an utter clusterfuck. That it is now. I agree with a lot of what you are saying. However, I have 4K hours in CoH 2, and you probably have double that. The experience has been had/enjoyed. Why stay in CoH 2, CoH 3 has good things about it. In: COH3 Central

The community are absolutely terrible game designers that only know how to tweak things based on their experienced losing to overpowered strategies. That's all, and that's where it ends. They have no ability to figure out what makes a game fun, how to create a vision for the game, and organize everything around that vision. They can make little quality of life adjustments and stuff like that, but never a fun game. I hope Relic did not take the community opinions to seriously. The "community" did not make CoH 1, it was Relic that did. Neither CoH 2. Was removing crush intentional? Who made that decision!? That's a classic mechanic. What??? I thought crush was removed due to some technical limitations that affect pathing or something. In: COH3 Central

Yes the whizzbang does have the same range as a flak 88? So what? Smoke and flank am I right? Yes the whizzbang doesn’t really wipe any units or punish blobs. But look man, TTK is higher for a reason in this game. It promotes tactical, engaging gameplay. Let me explain. You see a lot of blobbing / you think……..hmmmmm whizzbang should punish this / you wait all game to get the whizzbang / you bait the blob and barrage it / it does nothing and you eventually lose. Key takeaways from that. It wouldn’t be fair to the opponent if you punished him for using tactical columns (aka blobs). He should have an opportunity to react to the “rocket arty” or not react and still not lose any squads. Its like COH1 man, cmon everyone loves that game. Its like when the brits got released for it and that gameplay is now the gameplay for everything. On a more serious note. I would recommend not playing allies for the foreseeable future unless you enjoy losing to people you would normally beat in a balanced game. GLHF!! People can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not when you are ranting either on stream or in forums, unless they know you for a while. But yes Whizzbang is still trash after patch In: COH3 Central
