I don't see it ever outside of teamgames. It's too huge of an investment in 1v1. Yeah you might get lucky on the first shot and wipe a blob but against a good player that doesn't blob it's not that great because it fires literally once every two minute or so. The reload time is around 45s I think but the fact that it can be decrewed and stolen very easily while reloading means you have to drive it back first, yadda yadda. Also in 1v1 if you can afford the (230?) fuel into a unit that fire every two minutes, you've probably won anyhow.
To be honest regardless of buffs or nerfs, while it's fun to use and has that jaw-dropping WOW COOL factor, it really shouldn't be in this game. Squad preservation for veterancy is an integral mechanic to Coh2 and the Sturmtiger by design is a veterancy wiper. I know demo charges have been in the game since vanilla but those are more just a punish for not using a sweeper, and require forethought and planning instead of just rolling up to an area and wiping a squad or two and rolling back out.
But I think lowering the range and increasing the lethal radius/damage would be cool. It shouldn't be able to fire out of fog of war, especially past shotblockers. Instead of being a surprise wipe assassin, make it like a 'roided-up Brummbar/Crocodile/Kv-8: roll up to AT guns, blobs, whatever, and be tanky enough to facetank shots while threatening wipes. At least the 3 mentioned above give some reaction time, some breathing room to the infantry under assault. If your opponent keeps blobbing close enough to your Sturmtiger or doesn't move his support weapons out of the way when he sees it, fine, he deserves to have them all wiped. But you shouldn't lose squads to a rocket coming out of nowhere magically phasing through a house or such.

If because of the sound it make, it would be shown in the fog of war on the map then it would be better balanced.
It should be one shot kill the blob. Blobbers should be punished this way for not microing and spreading out. The same reason why an allies arty shot should wipe axis player who blobs. |

We already spoke about this subject on another thread.
The reason of this mess in 4v4 is because of the MAP.
They are way too tight, making flank impossible so a single mg42 & a few mortar / AT gun can hold a side easily.
sadly, i think that coh2 is not suited for any game above 2v2. Even 2v2 on some map suffer from the same problem (road to kharkov per exemple).
And everyone is well aware of the clusterfuck it is in 4v4, but coh2 is fcked up from the beggining by relic bad game design, the "unprofessional" modder team can't fix the whole game just like that, they could only do a few tweaks when it need a huge change to become competitiv in 4v4.
I am already glad that they managed to make 1v1 & even sometimes 2v2 enjoyable on this game.
If you like so much 4v4, you should give up on coh2 and get instead DOW3. They are made by the same company, aka LEULIC, but this last one seems to be much more 'team games' oriented from what i saw.
Edit : i notice you speak alot about AXIS being overpowered in 4v4 but you seem to forget everytime how fked up is the brits emplacement regiment commander.

OP is clearly drunk and doesn't know what he is talking about.. KATUSHAS/Calliopes/Landmattress/120mm/USF mortars/UKF motar pits/SU heavy arty all make short work of any OKW emplacement. Oh and the countless artillery options and air strikes all the factions have such as the bombing run, insta drop arty from USF. The delete OKW building bombing drop from UKF, Shit even the valentine with the combined artillery. Shit even 2 AT guns with a spotter can knock out a tier in short time, at least EVERY SHOT COUNTS.
Now let's talk about the invincible alien technology I like to call brace. You know when some sandbags stop a ST shot, or a Stuka dive bomb does virtually nothing. All for the quarter of the price, and a click of a button... you know when you have doctorines that completely support emplacements. Emplacements that can go invincible and heal themselves all with a push of a button, all at the same time.
