Assuming map advantage translates into winning the game is one of the biggest mistakes new players to coh make. It takes quite a lot of losing to finally realise that it only translates into a unit or two advantage.
If you don't use that advantage, your opponent will almost always come back in the game.
Not trying to sound patronising or teach you to suck eggs, but map control is only the beginning . |
I find it really hard to believe that soviets are OP. for some reason I'm having a really tough time winning as Sov atm. It must be my play style, but it really does make me raise an eye brow at people saying soviets OP.
Also I really do struggle to see how players having larger streaks with Germans than soviets could indicate soviet imbalance. |
I think Stuka is stronger at low levels of play and IL2 bomb is stronger at higher levels.
Because at low levels people don't respond quickly to the audio alert or think where it will likely land. More skilled players will quickly know where it's coming and try move units.
IL on the other have, at low levels of play will often be dropped in obvious locations where the enemy is almost certainly going to be watching and can micro away. Where as at higher levels, it's likely to be called where they know there enemy is unlikely to be watching, and hence no warning given. Things like dropping it on a capping squad just before the flag de-caps.
Stuka is powerful in large team games as there is so much going on and more units to guess. / micro |
From an entirely 'realism' point of view, which seems to be your only issue, if you drive a tank into another tank regardless of if they are traveling in the same direction and have minimal impact speed, your still talking about two tank treads which weigh several tons each, turning in opposite directions. It's entirely feasible that one track would snap.
Also the t34 is well known as the fastest tank of the war.
From a gameplay stand point, there is nothing wrong with ram now. Do not over extend your precious tiger if you are scared to lose it to disabled engines.. It will only take one conscript to achieve the same result.
Finally if you are really scared of ram because your micro sucks, then use Panzer Tactician smoke, it auto breaks the ram. |
Try playing soviet and using only call ins. It can be very powerful, but it certainly can lose you games also.
You need to learn the weakness of soviets mid game while they wait, and capitalise on it. Push them back enough and the call ins come too late.
Building T3 and T34 comes much much earlier 9/10 times.
If they go straight to KV8 they zero armour AT, only ZiS.. use this. It can be tricky overcomming a KV8, but they are slow and ZiS are slow.
I much prefer going T3 as soviets, and maybe calling a heavy later on. |
Would be cool if the flak 88 could reliably shoot down an IL2 seen as they are fairly slow.
Incendiary arty would still be nice soft counter, but of course would only decrew it, so could make for some cool battles and tactics.
Would also make howies more useful, which would be a good thing.
We shall see! |
I must really need to L2P, all these Germans moaning imba. All I have done is lose 5 soviet 1v1s in a row, thats a record for me. |
For an ocasional 4v4 its still pretty funny to do KV8 and SU85 spam, backed up with Katushkas (and a KV2 if you can afford one).
Medium tank spam is always going to have trouble as soon there are a few paks around. Unless you were very well backed up by team mates.

I would like to become more involved with the community including tourneys, which would boost my game a bunch.
But I spend most of my evenings with the GF, and work 40% of weekends and the rest Im out mountain biking.
So most of my CoH is done during the day when Im not working. So im pretty much stuck as a casual gamer. |
Ive been thinking about T1+2 soviets quite a bit, giving early aggresiveness, followed by T2 stability.
I know a SC paired with the engie can be really good, Just seems like a lot to build T1 just for one SC?
Also in that build, you dont need the fuel ability or the Dshka.
So may as well do the same with either guard motor, or if you dont need guards, use Armoured Assault.. |
