Part rant, part wanting to know what to do.
Just had a game where both opponents spammed Ass-grens all the way through, took the map and then destroyed our base. Not the most enjoyable game I've had (though its what's been happening these past few games, I've just been having terrible time of it... Either i get lagged by someone and they drop or I get owned).
What's there to do against it? The guy claimed I'd been outplayed and the like afterwards and then got onto the old chestnut of asymmetrical balance (which seems like a pile of rubbish to me at the moment, but that's another story). He suggested t1. The problem with t1 is that a) it takes a long time to come out and even longer for 360 MP snipers or penals which Assault grenadiers can just rush and have most things capped. What's more, my teammate built T1 and got penals etc which did basically nothing and I got t2 which didn't help either...
When both guys go for the strat. What am I meant to do? It just feels cheesy and P2W at the moment and yet I see people claiming to be able to counter it. What's the secret because I'm feeling pretty pissed at the moment against gren spam and then double assault gren spam which just gives you no chance to come back.
Sure, I'm a crap player, but it'd be nice if I could get a decent game every now and again. |
-What about fixing the Grens vs Cons early game?
-What about giving Soviets a viable counter to LMG Grens?
-What about the ridiculous RNG that too often decides a game?
-What about the fact that Germans don't even need T4 in a 1v1?
-What about the KV8 Flamer?
-What about how crap the T34-85 are?
-What about the 120mm mortars range and insta gib potential?
-What about the Ostruppen spam into T2 flamer HT?
There are so many other things that need fixing with the game other then just redesigning the SU85. Yeah the SU85 might be a strong unit, but really Soviets need it to be. How else are they going to stop a Tiger or a Panther? If the SU85 is lowered in health any more then it will just be gg every time Germans get two or more P4's and 3-4 Grens with LMG.
In my opinion, CoH2 can not be fixed without a MAJOR re-design of the Soviet faction. The Soviet faction is just complete shit design, that Relic need to admit that they fucked up and start again by releasing a beta patch with MAJOR re-designs of the Soviet faction.
I am currently writing an essay on my opinion of the Soviet faction and its requirement of a redesign.
Totally agree, just got out of a game where we got smashed by two guys who for once had half a brain cell when it came to using Germans early on, MGs FHT, Mortar HT, LMG gren spam, Pgrens and then a Brummbar, we just got stuck in base. Its games like that just make me feel like uninstalling the game. It's either a complete wipe for me or a german player who doesn't have a brain and just loses badly. That's all I'm getting. Any kind of close game ends with a German player bringing out a Tiger or something they've been saving fuel for (whilst I've been fighting a close game) and then I promptly lose... |
@ Immortal's thread.
I don't use SU-85 + sniper combo at all now because as you've said it's a bit silly. I'd rather use other strats... |
I've kind of kept away from this post for a while in order to play Germans and (mainly) Soviets (because otherwise I wait for longer than I can stand in queue.
My observations are that German squads seem to die faster and easier compared to Soviet ones (well duh... they are 4 man squads). This seems to me to place a greater emphasis for the Soviets on support weaponry and in-direct fire as compared to the German direct fire approach. I still don't feel like taking back my statement though that Germans are far easier. Whilst Soviets can begin dominating Germans given time, it seems to be a lot easier to dominate Germans with grenadiers, snipers MGs and mortars (as they are all conveniently in the same building).
Contrast this with Soviets who have to make a choice between often inferior weaponry. However I do feel that having inferior mortars say for the Soviets is kind of justified because if they had something like the fast firing German mortar then they'd be knocking down German squads left right and centre. I still spend most of a game as Soviets completely stressing out throughout the battle, whilst as Germans I seem free to float fuel etc and still comfortably win... though ofcourse I might just be facing noobs. Either way, after giving it a while, I'm still unimpressed by the balance and I often get rather angry at such things as Pgren bundled nades 1 shotting guards and the Ostwind (a unit I despised in both games) just coming out and wrecking my infantry and then just circle strafing my AT guns with impunity... Nor is it very fun when I try T1 and promptly be run over by a FHT... I just am forced to rage... |
SU-76Ms can be useful but one p4 can catch and destroy it very quickly for almost no damage taken itself. Vet SU-76Ms though are things to be feared... |
I've been primarily a Soviet player for a long time because I like the history and I don't like the waiting times as Germans.
I have however tried Germans recently to see what they are like.
I'm amazed. All their units are very effective, Pgrens are crazy effective, Grens with LMG just drill straight through cons, molotovs are a concern by nothing more than that. When I bring out an elefant there's literally no counter. A lowly Ostwind I was expecting to die (because they seem to die a lot when I come across them as Soviets) instead found itself on vet 3 and cheerfully blitzing away from SU-85 with that silly race car engine noise. I don't know myself with all the combos I can do, all the awesome elite infantry I have, all the options, having literally a possible counter to everything the Soviets can bring out in one building. (T3)
I am just appalled... No wonder matchmaking is so skewed. I have to wonder at the quality of the opponents I am put up against. I haven't had the greatest successes with Germans because I'm still learning the proper ins and outs but man... I'm just appalled at the difference between them and the Soviets. |
I'd be interested to see what happened if they dumped all Soviet buildings to be in line with German building costs and battle phases. Considering what many Soviet units are like (i.e. inferior to German counter parts) the results would be interesting...

If there's one unit in the game that I despise completely, it's the Ostwind... |
I don't think it's quite Official Red Army Decree. IIRC those words are actually by the journalist Ilya Ehrenburg... |
I have a feeling it's a case of both grens and cons requiring something to tip the balance in their favour in a one on one fight, therefore a grenade works wonders for them because it can instantly tip that balance...
I'm beginning to wonder (wild random thought here) if we need two core infantry units for one side and one core infantry unit for the otherside, one jack of all trades, the other requiring a synergy of the two. Though it's too late to do such a thing. |
