The unit suffers from a classic combo overnerf.
Iirc. the range was nerfed AND the ability to shoot through shotblockers was nerfed away.
Now it is absolutely garbage. An elevation adjustment will not make it useful again. People will still walk away from its shots.
Revert the changes to what it was. Nobody complained about the Sturmtiger from half a year ago. It had an effective range of 5m where it could shoot from the FOW and needed a spotting unit. |
"Werfer spreads out too much and doesnt do anything at long range"
"Werfer is too accurate and can't deny an area"
fucking WHAT? That's no contradiction. It is accurate enough to fail at area denial. It is inaccurate enough to fail at its role as accurate artillery. Its performance is in between and it is the worst heavy artillery in the game. Instead of answering to the famous forum troll Katitoff, we might want to take a look at the points players are bringing up. |
Doesn't it have different vet bonuses aswell?
If you leave your cursor on the vet stars it tells you more range at vet 2 and 3. From what it looks/feels like it also has more range.
I might be wrong though since the tooltips etc. are all wonky right now. (It might just feel like it due to the spearhead self spotting.) Doesn't it get 55 range at veterancy 3?
45 base,
+ 5 at veterancy 2 and
+ 5 at veterancy 3?
That would explain the tool tips which state increased range on both levels. |
Title says it all.
This is becoming a problem especially in 2vs2s. StuGs bounce and can't reliably fight them off, mediums fail and Panthers often can't be afforded in time. Also those struggle since the high HP pool can easily take that.
This in coimbination with Bren blobs and 60 range td meta means Germans are not sufficiently equipped in the lategame. |
The Elefant is highly situational. It only "works" on certain maps and outside of 1v1. And even then the performance is lackluster.
It can't do more than scare mediums away. With three shots needed to stop a medium your opponent needs to do something seriously wrong to lose a tank to the Elefant.
It is designed to be stuck in one place and be flanked.
After the latest nerf it doesn't even deliver dps. At a mere 200hp per hit and with a bad rate of fire the StuG does the job better.
It's only good aspect is the 70 range. The high frontal armor doesn't really help since the unit is too slow. The high penetration isn't needed, a StuG will do the same. The usual engagement goes like this: Elefant gets off one shot and then gets flanked. The support will get swarmed by an infantry blob or a bunch of medium tanks that the Elefant can't counter.
In short: It has good range, bad dps, bad mobility, high cost. The unit was simply overnerfed. The Elefant needs a complete redesign in my opinion. Hell, it only performs marginally better than the ISU in the AT department yet can't fight infantry at all. This alone should raise some questions. |
No, you are just bias about your view of the community devs. He has made a true point.
Ost was about good tanks and small squads. Now it's about mediocre tanks and small squads. I'll let you figure out yourself why this game doesn't feel satisfying any more when playing Ost. The Brumm was the last remaining good unit Ostheer had. With the reduced range it will be forced to dive deeper into AT guns which renders the unit far less capable. Meanwhile the ISU152 can rule supreme. The Ele with far less utility gets hit with the nerf stick. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to see a pattern here. |
I want a civil discussion about this. This is my honest experience during the last months.
Soviets at the moment, especially in 2vs2 game mode are way too easy to play, way too forgiving and way too hard to counter on the Axis side.
- 6 men weapon crews are way too hard to push away
- 6 men penals are also durable and will end up in a huge wave of superior infantry
- the new sniper is deadly against 4 men squads
- the T-70 is the best light tank in the game
Countering weapon crew cancer as OKW is futile as you can't rely on the LeIG to counter anything and you lack flamethrowers. Flamenades are easily dodged.
During the early game and the early mid game Soviets have a huge advantage. And due to the Axis lategame nerfs (Elefant dmg, Vet Nerfs for OKW, StuG nerf) they are even on par with the Axis, despite having had a huge advantage earlier.
Su85 and Su76 reliably shut down any medium or heavier axis tank on maximum range. T-34/85 cancer is becoming more meta and if that is not enough you can steamroll anything with cheaper T-34/76s.
What exaclty is the disadvantage of Soviets? There is none. |
They buffed the Pz4 so it could be an all-in tank, so yes we see much less Ostwind and Stugs. Even if you buff the Ostwind to Pz4 level, it wouldn't be interesting to get it and buffing it even more would make infantry play a nightmare vs it at the moment it hit the field. Like the Centaur?
The Ostwind is seriously lacking in performance. My buddy used it some days ago to great effect but even at vet 3 it had serious problems wiping squads. Something the Centaur would have done easily. Imo it needs to have better accuracy on the move so it can chase down infantry.

The linked part (until 29:40) shows its biggest problem. It can't hit while moving. And even the accuracy while standing leaves room for improvements. |
Refreshing to see masses of T34-76s and even Pumas being used in the endgame.
Also I have not often seen an AVRE being used to this effect. |
I dont think you even understand the basics.
