Japanese tanks were neither cheap nor plentiful, Japan was in the same dire situation as Germany was in late 44 due to fuel shortages. It's not that their tanks aren't tigers, it's that they are worse than literally every single medium tank currently in the game except the Command Panzer IV.
And I think almost every one can agree OKW isn't a good example of smart faction design.
I know they weren't cheap or plentiful in real life, but if they were put in game they would be cheap since you can't charge 150 fuel for a tank worse then a T34.
We can keep having this argument forever because you believe relic to be idiots who would just copy and paste the real japanse army into the game, and I believe they would be smart and actually balance them accordingly. |
No, but a faction based around almost only infantry is pretty silly when the allies in this game excel at killing infantry due to having excellent indirect fire/blob killers. Not to mention the fact that the Chi-nu couldn't even take on a T34/76 or a Sherman let alone anything bigger.
The Japanese relied extremely heavily on artillery and mines, as well as lots of air support and we know how much everyone loves skill planes.
OKW is also a heavily infantry based faction as well most the time. Trust me it isn't as easy to kill infantry as allies as you think. And their tanks might not be tigers, but they would be cheap and plentiful if they aren't strong. Try to ignore them and you would get overrun just as you would against any allied player using shermans and t34s |
The problem is that of the extremely few mediums they had none could stand up to their allied equivalents. It would be interesting to see a faction balanced only around support/infantry and emplacements, but it would be so easy to counter that I just don't think it would work. B4 anyone?
You keep repeating the same thing. It doesn't matter what would happen in real life. In game players can flank, use anti-tank infantry, and have a variety of ways to make up for have weaker tanks and Chi-nus and ho-ris can take on meduim armor just fine from the front.
Your argument only makes sense in a vacuum where there are only tanks and you have to attack from the front. The real game doesn't play like that. Not to mention we will probably several changes to current armor before we ever see a japanese faction. |
But German tanks and Soviet tanks can actually go head to head with out the result being a forgone conclusion. Italian and Japanese tanks are utter garbage.
This is japan's heaviest mass produced tank which is going to have a hell of a time fighting this:
If your only strategy for taking out a heavy tank is a bigger heavier tank, then you aren't very good at this game. AT guns, vehicle snares, air support, and heavy defensive emplacements would all play a big role in a japanese faction. |
If your wondering why we can't have the Japs in COH2 this is why: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuUR95-o_fw#t=26 they lost to the Soviet Union in 39. Your citing a historical document to say why we shouldn't have them in-game, but you just don't get it do you? IT DOESN"T MATTER! It doesn't matter how well they actually did. If it did Germans would lose every single battle after eventually getting outnumbered by shermans and T-34s. The only thing that matters is whether or not they have enough units to fill a faction and enough interest that people will buy it. That is all. |
Well as all you remember we (who plays competitive multiplayer) are less than 10% of Relic auditory.
Thus the system that we see ingame now reflects this approach of their target auditory. More time you spent in the game the higher level you got.
About automatch - may be their system is not bad for SC2 ot League of Legends, but in CoH2 lacks of that amount of people like in SC2 or League of Legends and other. So not bad for those games. They don't want to change the system because we (competitive) players the smallest part of their business.
Everything is logical.
Yeah, but there is no harm in letting players know their own elo. Other then players shoving it in everyone else's faces on forums to validate their terrible opinions. |
Id just be surprised to see extra factions in Coh2. Seems like Relics work woukd go through the roof. There is plenty for them to be getting on with with these 4 factions and their commanders. The factions will be as balanced as they design them. As long as they keep in mind pacing, and make sure they have counters and can be countered by what the other factions have they will be fine. You know, all the things they forgot about when designing OKW. |
Totally different kettle of fish, at least USA and Russia were fighting with the same millitary goal, Berlin. 2 fronts, one enemy.
The Pacific is the other side of the world!
And I do think that Japan does not fit the flavour of coh2 (all the heavies).
Its an opportunity, hyperthetically for fresh gameplay, that would bennefit more starting from scratch.
Anyways, 4 factions is plenty for one game, balance would be impossible with 6.
If they do release brits, which I doubt, ill eat my hat :-D
6 factions? I always figured they would stop at 4. aka:
Soviets v Whermacht, Eastern Font
USF v OKW, Western Front
Commonwealth v Italy-German, Medditeranian Front
Mixed pacific allies(USM, Anzac, etc) v Japan, Pacific front
Basically one release per year
And you might have to eat that hat. Brits are extremely likely. |
1) Because if there is a shit ridiculous aspect in the game, be consequent and make the shit even more ridiculous. I still cringe once I see USF + Soviets in a team.
Next step: Include Japanese, because there are USF + Sovs in teamgames.
Next step: Japanese heavy tanks - prototypes but included for balance.
Next step: Be consequent and give Germans their prototype: Maus dlc. Weren´t the Allies experimenting with Jetpacks? I don´t know, but why not include them.
I would even cringe more if in 2v2+ we could see Banzai charges next to StuGs and Kübelwagen.
2) Now if the Japanese were to be included: You play them and meet an IS-2... how are you going to defeat it with light vehicles and no Panzerschreck equivalent? Buff tankettes with 37mm guns to the power of Tigers?
1. The slippery slope argument is always so stupid. It relies on people being suddenly becoming retarded. Maus and Japanese heavies were both ridiculously big and far too powerful to ever realistically put in this game even if experimental tanks were allowed which no one is actually asking for. At most people are asking for unused produced tanks.
The mixed theaters decision has already been decided, likely before the game even came out. Stopping now is stupid especially when relic has already stated that they want the entire WW2 experience.
2. Same way I do as allies, I would cripple it and destroy it with AT guns or flank it to take it out from behind. It's not like the Japanese would have to reinvent the wheel. If anything they have it easier since the allies don't have as many well armored tanks. |
Japan wouldnt fit into coh2, no.
But if coh3 were based around that theatre, you could have all the dense tight infantry fighting in jungles as mentioned.
They could attempt to bring more water into maps and have island based maps, amphibious craft, beach landings, island hoping.. How the Pacific was fought.
You could have naval abilities like gun battery bombardments.
The air battles could be taken to the next level, dog fighting, kamikazis etc.
They could even toy with hand to hand combat abilities like a Japanese sword charge?
So what if you dont have heavy tanks, thats what coh2 is about, this could be refreshing.
Obviously thats just ideas, but I do think its the theatre that offers the most unique gameplay and features, fits the timeline of coh1+2 and offers another opportunity for Relic to really push the boundaries, if they wanted to.
And the single player campaign could be epic! I'm sure you were probably one of the people saying soviets and US should never fight together, too. It's stupid to talk about coh3 becaus that's not going to happen for another 8 years even if it happens at all. And there are plenty of people who want to see a japanese faction before they die. If allies can have Soviets and US fighting together, Axis should be able to have Japan and Germans |
