Sniping whole units and medium tanks by firing from the fog of war felt kinda cheap, altough that was the only way that made it somewhat viable in a competetive setting. Still, the tank undeniably remains a niche unit and shares the same problem the Ostwind or Brummbär have: There is no need for a infantry or support weapon killer if generalist tanks fulfill the same job almost equally effective. I think the aoe damage of allrouder-tanks in combination with the tighter squad AI is way out of control and needs to be addressed first to make room for specialists. Theoretically you can one-shot medium tanks, which is huge, but then there is the problem with death crits. They simply should not happen, at least with this weapon. Every "normal" tank has the chance to give chase and finish a tank off, but not this one. In: COH2 Balance

Sometimes shots bounce off all the time and sometimes every shot penetrates. Last game I drove my Panther into 3 Jacksons and an IS-2. Ok, pretty stupid obviously, I just didn't expect it. However, under normal circumstances my Panther should bounce off at least some shots and be able to reverse, hopefully before the second salve. In that case however all 4 shots penetrated the Panther and it instantly got destroyed. I could as well have sent in a Panzer IV and the result would have been the same. Bad luck. You cannot prevent such happenings with a system that is completely based on RNG. No matter how you fiddle around with the penetration and armor values of every tank, eventually you will run into situations where the unlikely is happening. Either that you bounce off a lot more shots than you should, making your tank far too powerful, or you don't bounce off anything, making your investment into a high armor tank pointless. That's exactly how i feel. Even after thousands of hours playtime, i find it very hard to calculate the risk when using tanks like the panther offensively, because it is so hugely inconsistent. It reaches a point where i can't be arsed to be bothered with it anymore... it feels safer playing conservative with an ISU or Elefant in the back and not giving RNG even the slightest chance to ruin your day. Thread: IS-2 and Panther20 Jan 2015, 14:03 PM Jump back to quoted post20 Jan 2015, 09:14 AMalcoholic i have read it so many times that there is no side armour in this game. example: a tank has a front armour of 100 an a rear armour of 10. if you shoot it at an perpedicular angle and if both hitboxes for rear and front are equally sized the armour of the tank when shooting it from the side (lets just name it side armour) is (100+10)/2 =55 it would have nearly have the same effect if the developer decided to code a specific value for the sidearmour with a value of 55 That doesn't factor in penetration thresholds. If a gun had a penetration value of exactly 55, it would penetrate every shot if 55 was a "real" value for side armor. With a mix between 100 front and 10 back armour, there will always be non-penetrating shots happening, no matter how small the "back hitbox" of the tank is. So... as Sarantini said. On topic: Armor in this game is for my taste not handled optimal. Heavy tanks rely to much on RNG, while medium tanks don't get punished enough for facing rear armor, since the majority of shots will penetrate the front anyway. What i would like to see: -Higher, reliable penetration values for tank hunters, Jacksons and Jagdpanzer 4 specifically (160 damage for Jackson to compensate in this case). -Real side armor (altough i fear you will notice the bad pathing much, much more when tanks start spinning around) -Damage modifier for back armor (x1.5) and maybe also for front armor (x0.75) hits -Removal of random stun chance (this chance puts stupid RNG on top of stupid RNG) In: COH2 Balance

If you ask me, one of the important things in order to keep mental sanity is to not take the game too seriously. I find it almost impossible to get real "competitive enjoyment" with the abundance of RNG, bugs, bad pathfinding and overarching balance problems, so i stopped playing for keeps a long time ago. It's not worth the frustration, especially in 1v1s with certain factions. On the other hand CoH2 is simply the best looking and sounding WW2 RTS experience around, with novel and solid core mechanics. If you can manage to get enjoyment purely from dipping in the atmosphere, than that's excuse enough to keep playing the game, watching streams or visiting coh2.org. It is what it is, you have to see it realistically. Nobody can promise you that the gameplay get's better over time, it will only be different most likely. In: Lobby
Thread: the strat is to sad for words3 Jan 2015, 21:28 PM This whole game in general was "to sad for words". If any sadness in particular stood out, it would be yours, E-zy. You had one Sturmoffizier, surrounded with ~3 Fusiliers and 3 Volks, moving in one big blob, attack after attack. You even could have been successful with that army alone, if you had more Panzerschrecks and spread out here and there. The vehicle micro was subpar at best: Your Stuka had zero kills even after the third barrage and the Jagdpanzer 4 got shot in the back by a Zis. You may have gotten more use from a 251/17 in the early game. Your Wehrmacht partner wasn't any better: He lost most of his T3 tanks to Jacksons while achieving nothing and couldn't even stop an unsupported KV8 from roaming in your base and getting vet 2 in the process. There was nothing extraordinary cheap nor revolutionary from the allies, as far as 2v2s are concerned. The US Forces had their blob with somewhat novel 3 double-BAR-Pathfinders, which clashed with your infantry Blob, E-zy - and still lost for the most time. Soviets blobbed 3 Shocks into Katjuscha and IS2. The allies lost the infantry-blob-war, but got much more mileage from their tanks. I understand that the state of the game especially in 2v2+ and with the new factions in particular can be really sad and disgusting, but please refrain from beeing a hypocrite and talking your opponents down. Thread: How do you feel about G43s?12 Nov 2014, 20:00 PM Before they made the G43 mid-range and basically switched roles with the LMG42 i was in love with it - and the Lightning War doctrine. It suited my defensive, long range infantry heavy T2 strategy very well. Plus: They were one of the best counters against snipers. In combination with a Tiger, G43s were incredibly efficient. Nowadays i feel it lacks incentive to go G43s, even with the LMG nerfs. I rather pay more munitions for more long ranged DPS, even if it is stationary, simple as that. The interrogation ability can be handy though, IF you can remember to use it. (I did in maybe 1 out of 30 games to be honest.) For instance if you were forced to play on Stalingrad (you should never NOT veto this map as Ostheer), and you can't spend much munitions on upgrades, it would make sense to chose G43s. At current stage of game (not Kappatch) med tanks like P4 or T34 sometimes can wipe the squad with first shot which is ridiculous to me. This change should apply mostly to medium tanks and heavy tanks (and some to tank destroyers), not for example to T-70 and Luchs which are currently good at killing infantry I'll second that. The tighter squad positioning makes every explosive AOE weapon drastically more deadly. For instance it looks like it is better to position a maxim not behind heavy cover in fear of one-shotting (rifle-) grenades, which feels backwards and rather extreme. So i wouldn't limit a change to the AOE only to tanks. In: Lobby

But then again i'm lazy and don't like playing high APM intensive strategy games e.g. SC2. Whats the problem of the ISU 152? Is is that it one-shots squads effortlessly from far away? Or is the one-shots squads from far away part actually fine and only the effortlessly part is flawed? I would argue the one-shot part is the problem. No increase in reload time, no decrease in range, no limit to unit count and no increase in the micro requirement will prevent one-shots. The AOE has to be tweaked, as far as i am concerned. With the current change it will be necessary to hotkey your supertanks and be able to quickly execute the "attack ground/unit" command even in the heat of the battle to get your moneys worth. The way i see it, players with less stellar micro and reflexes will be severely punished, no matter how good their decision making is. Not sure if i like that. The Jagdtiger can more easily be adjusted, because it is mainly AT. Removing the ability to shoot through buildings or decreasing the range sounds alright. The inherent ability to get stunned could be removed to compensate. In: COH2 Balance
