WarZ != DayZ...
WarZ is a DayZ clone, that simply beat DayZ to release...
doesn't mean that the DayZ final will not be riddled with cheaters either, once it's released ;-)
The fact that War Z was announced AFTER Day Z went massively popular, and released beforehand with THAT many flaws, indicates it was trying to climb on the DayZ bandwagon
People seem to think that because DayZ will become standalone, that it will be "so much better". It will open the doors to revenue so they can improve it, but it will still consist of development by BIS staff. Graphics won't change, engine wont change. It will come with all the inherent weaknesses of the Arma engine... and its strengths. |
What's funny is, popcap was used in old games to compensate for lack of memory. Yes, it is a strategic element in some games, and it became a part of design, but...
Do we really need it? Even with sneaking vampires in vCOH, popcap was only really felt when you were dramatically losing map control, or in 1v1's where you literally go for the big bad cutoff certain maps had (north langres and angoville comes to mind). |
And in a (somewhat) unrelated note:
I have a prediction: One of Sega's first DLC's will be a blood patch!!!!!
Because that has never happened before for $0.99 |
I don't think you optimize graphics during beta.
You'd be surprised! They CAN optimize graphics during a Beta, after all, open and closed Betas may also help the developers receive A LOT on info on the machines used by their userbase, instead of just the inhouse/outsourced machines. Its just, they won't fix models and units, they usually optimize stuff that's under the hood: memory allocation and the such.
Kinda what the Steam survey does already... lolz

Intel Bulletins would be fine, IMHO, as long as they also apply penalties, and there's not HUNDREDS of them. Just a few bulletins to add a little flavor to your army. So, say you get a 10% cover bonus, would you still take it if it means your troops are 10% slower (more defensive, less mobile army). Maybe you could have an Intel bulletin that improves your unit's resistance to Blizzards, but making you more vulnerable to flamers. Who knows.
Whether 10% cover bonus is very slight or not doesn't even particularly matter to me. I just dislike the general idea of non-cosmetic effects being purchasable.
I agree, but no official source has stated whether Intel bulletins can be purchased, as far as i know. They will have DLC's, and having purchasable Commanders and Intel Bulletins are a possibility, but we have no idea how they will be implemented, if at all.
We know skins will be in there for sure, and we have, repeatedly, been told there is no pay-to-win schemes. Deceiving their community is NOT a wise thing, and I doubt this is the case.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sega grabs the game and says: Guys, this is great, but we can do more. Here's more money, push back the release date, make it awesome.
Then the CoH2.org community would go up in flames screaming "WHY!?" and Sega would please us saying: All CoH2 pre-orders will include exclusive access to the Rome 2 Beta, and an exclusive unit. Then we all go "Awwwwwwwww yeeeeh!"
And then Sega will go: "Playa wantz observer mode, replay toolz, modding tools? Playa get observer mode, replay toolz and modding tools."
And we all go like: "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"
...and then I woke up. |
Arma 2 is amazing, if only they had better presentation and quality control (most of the improvements are by the community, for the community, with great support form the devs). Arma 3 doesn't look superior, except in graphics, but I am hoping DayZ brings more fandom to the genre, and BIS.
Im playing:
DOTA 2 (got several beta keys, if you guys want some)
Natural Selection 2
Arma 2 CO
Biggest disappointment is, without a doubt, Diablo 3.
Biggest surprise: Dishonoured. Too linear for my tastes, but if they did it in the style of Elder Scrolls, the universe is amazing and full of potential. |
My god, he truly is identical to Manny.
I'd still support 12azor for representing Earth as a Green Lantern before the Guardians of the Universe, though. |
Also, even Alpha players didn't get to see the real effects of veterancy (unless someone reverse engineered it). Vet 3 snipers didn't turn into soulless death machines, like they do in CoH, if my info is right. |
It's been clear for a while, I think, that there are going to be gameplay-altering unlocks that come with hours played or with money. There we have it officially.
Chances are, DLC will include intelligence bulletins like +5% Panzerschreck accuracy, +10% cold endurance, or whatever. Also doctrinal abilities if we're really unlucky. This is a sad consequence of the current business reality of games publishing.
What are you talking about? What official source? That was PCGamer, not Relic. Anything they write about for now is still a WIP, unless the game has gone gold for retail already (which, since Beta hasn't even started, I doubt).Yes, they might have said 10% extra bonus cover, but we simply DONT KNOW the inner working of CoH2, 10% might indeed be very slight(it may not stop at 100%, depending on how they calculate their cover system).
Sure, this could be mean bad things, but at this point in time, it's all speculation. So take of your tinfoil hats for now. |
