Add AA to base MG bunkers.
Problem solved.
Artillery is not an aircraft. Still works wonders against bases.
AA would also ruin any used of the ability near the base, but not targeting, ruining the point of having airplanes at all.
If the problem became insanely exploitable, then the easiest solution would be to prohibit targeting the base area altogether, even with vision. The problem is not big enough, though. |
People saying the Relic Devs/Admins didn't do anything "before" means they automatically approved of it.
This is illogical.
Its very simple... Some people defend VonIvan's conduct as something they tolerate. Thats cool, but a precedent has been set here: That kind of conduct its not cool in this game.
Sure, if Hans wasn't popular, his complaints would have been harder to get through, but then again: If you are stupid enough to harass someone with the proper connections, then expect the burn to come at one point or another.
I'm going to go get a piña colada...

True, there's a physical aspect to those, so it applies (anyone remember the knife to the head in a CS 1.6 match in China?)
...No knives on Twitch or Automatch though, so its up to the Devs or some form of arbitration.
Where would the line be drawn at something like SNF, for example? |
Its ugly when it happens, but it requires a lot of munitions.
If, for whatever reason, he misses... then he's down 200+ munitions. That's not good for an Ostheer player.
In any case, if an Ostheer player has 200+ munitions and you are mass retreating your units, and he already has access to these end game abilities, the game was not boding well for Soviets in the first place. |
I totally respect your point of view, just on a sidenote, Muhammad Ali did the biggest stalking and harassment at Sonny Liston's Gym in boxing history. He called Liston ugly bear, and took a jar of honey to mock Liston.
Also this is what Joe Frazier said before his fight with Ali: "I want to hit him, step back, and watch him hurt."
So this point is no valid for me sorry.
That's exactly what I'm talking about. They trash talk, and that's fine.... the reason why they trash talk, is to get their opponents distracted form the job at hand, so they underperform. They also trash talk because is part of the atmosphere and spirit of the game: Most people watch Boxing matches because of the entertaniment value, its a physical sport and there's a culture of bravado to it.
E-sports are usually made up of armchair commanders, its not a physical sport. It doesn't have a culture based on the alpha member of the pack, like Boxing does. The direct culture in Games and E-sports, is kids hiding behind anonymity and harassing people because they didn't suffer any consequences in the internet, and that carried on to the games. The 90's are behind us now though, and the internet is less anonymous now. There's consequences for your actions, and people are responsible for what they do.
In Boxing, big mouthed fighters like Ali are allowed because they draw crowds, and make money for the business. This is not the case here (there is no business). This is not trash talking in a competitive level alone, from what the informed parties are saying.
In the end, there's only a couple of people here that know the whole story. VonIvan will be unbanned soon, and we can take it as a warning for future behavior.
PS: I'd eat the honey, and I'd say it tastes as sweet as watching my opponent fall before me. If I lose: I got free honey. |

I don't understand why people are even comparing this to cheating. They are two completely different worlds apart. Both can get you banned, but for very different reasons.
There's also people trying to draw a line, and say that trash talking is a viable strategy, etc.
There is a very BIG difference between trash talking, and downright harassment. Anyone who watches MMA or Boxing knows this. A competitive gaming environment is no different. I've never seen a Boxer stalk his opponent at his house, or his gym and start trash talking him constantly. That's different than saying "Totally steamrolled you today lol".
VonIvan, or anyone for that matter, doesn't have the right to a defense. This isn't a court of law. Its more akin to YOU, the player, being a guest in someone else's house. Be a dick and you'll be excused.
This is also a VERY crucial point for people in the community to decide what kind and quality environment they want this community to be. If you want COH2 to be filled with 99% of the GR chat in vCoH, then go ahead and allow harassment, trolling and general dickery.
A lot of people don't want a serious community or competitive environment, I get that. However, general common sense dictates that if you don't want to risk getting shoved, then don't push it.
VonIvan pushed it. |
And what role does the stug currently fit?
Right now? None that I see, because both roles are taken by superior tanks, at a slight icnrease in cost. AI is taken by Ostwind, and decent AT for that point in the game is taken by PIV.
That doesn't mean there isn't a viable role, my personal opinion is that I'd rather invest that hard earned fuel into one of the better versions. As to what role it should fill, in my opinion?:
It should be cheaper to produce, so that its a weak version of a PIV. Its role should be that of a mobile ATG, with decent AI, but nothing to boast of. By that, I specifically mean it should deal less damage than a PIV (say, 100 damage), but boast a higher penetration. It would be an inexpensive way to compliment your tank advances, or an excellent way to provide a resilient ATG as the game progresses.
The drawback? It should have a very sluggish turn rate, so having it unsupported is dumb. Combined arms have to be used. |
The SU-85 is too cheap. I still don't understand why a tank that outperforms every other tank in the non doctrinal game, is only 116 fuel. It should be something like 125 fuel. Its especially aggravating when you consider the Soviets can field it relatively quickly.
The stats are fine, yes its a little too fast for my tatse, but then again, their tanks don't have turrets.
Comapring StuG's to SU-85's is a mistake. The only thing they have in common is th elack of a turret, but other than that, they should fill two different roles entirely.
|
Agreed on all points, except I'll elaborate a little more.
The T-34 can deal with anything the German fields, prior to T4 (if well micro'd). Its not good against the PIV because it got buffed, but it used to defeat any T3 tank back when it was cheaper, if properly handled. when the T34 was cheaper, it snumbers were its strength, but not anymore. The cost increase is, in my opinion, a good move (same with StuG, btw). You cannot have cheap medium vehicles in this game, or spam ensues. Medium vehicles require less upkeep than infantry in the long run, and that means you need to pay more up front. So that much is good.
The problem I see, with making the T-34 simply "stronger", is that it makes the T70 useless and it diverts into a "rush T34 every single time" strategy. Then games will be pretty much decided on who loses its first medium vehicle. Since Soviet vehicles arrive earlier and are cheaper, the consequences for the German army will be harsher.
This is where the global upgrade comes in. Even after the upgrade, the PIV should defeat the T34 one on one (close defeat). However, the Soviet gets more bang for the same buck, and he can field multiple T-34's to destroy German armor.
While we are at it, this global upgrade could be an Anti-Tank tactics package, which enables the use of the Ram ability. It gives you a reason to keep spending money on T-34's late game, it delays SU-85's slightly (since Ram is very useful against heavy tanks).
