I made my peace with vCoH a long time ago (almost a year). Not mad if they shut it down, it more than paid for what I invested in it. I wish it didn't close, and hopefully they'd improve all of the features and polish it back into shape, but Im not investing my hopes in that.
I also wish they'd bring back other legacy games, you know? But they are that: legacy. |
and why is that? T-70s are very easily handled by grens' panzerfausts and, as it have already been mentioned, wihtout their speed they're totally useless. Though they can get really nasty if u dont have those grens with p-fausts, focusing on spamming mgs, but that would be ur problem, wouldnt it? And, as again has been stated above, that fancy armored car with autocannon upgrade can be efficiently used against t-70. See, many ways of countering. imho the situation with countering german tanks is far more important at this stage.
It has speed, range and accuracy beyond any AT solution at that point in the game. Its not insanely OP, but it is extremely efficient for its price of 66 fuel.
It will outrange the faust AND the shrek. It will enemy soldiers in 2 hits. Even when it misses, it has a small chance to hit and/or damage the enemy. Its a great unit. |
I think the PIV is just right, as is. The T-34 needs a slight boost, and the Panther needs to become a more powerful Tank Killer, now that the SU-85 takes that crown.
The Brummbar is outside of this thread's topic, but it is the most underused unit in the entire game. There's more use out of an M3 halftrack with the AA upgrade, than getting the Brummbar. Its also qualified as a heavy tank, that cannot heavy crush things (seriously, lol, wtf ![:P :P](/images/Smileys/tongue.gif) ) |
And so have a lot of people? Me included? What's your point? 6-7 years of not knowing a simple game mechanic might not be something you want to point out about yourself...
On topic though, I think it's fine to bomb enemy bases and units trying to time their retreat, but I would prefer if it didn't insta-gib artillery. 600MP saved up, used probably once or twice, then wiped off the map by a competent player using a commander ability isn't something i'm a fan of.
Edit: Unless this ability is a late game ability kind of like the old V1 to the howitzer in coh1. It takes a while to have the ability to gib the arty, this I'm more ok with.
All offensive aerial abilities, with the exception of Strafe and Incendiary I think, are endgame. |
It was actually quite a part of the game. It was the ideal way to get rid of Allied howitzers for a while, until they balanced it: howitzers survived a firestorm barrage (barely).
It is easier to do it in CoH2 IF you have the munitions, but its very hard tog et that many munitions as Ostheer in a fight between equally skilled opponents. |

I would lower the fuel cost on the T-70 to 40 or 45, tbh.
You can't make a unit cheaper just because the tier is underused. You must first find out why it is underused. The point of the T70, or any unit for that matter, is not to absolutely destroy everything with it. before a better unit comes out. On the contrary, it is to make use of the unit as best as you can before that counter arrives. If it doesn't then you played your cards right, and he played them wrong.
The T70 has more than enough damage potential to play a significant role if your strategy was laid out this way. Its true that the T70 loses value if the Ostheer has gotten an advantage and is rolling medium tanks, but if he is at T3, getting his PIV out, and you don't have some sort of hard AT on the field already, then something went wrong, because soviets can field pretty much any unit they want before the Ostheer equivalent (Heavy tanks excepted). |
Having Recon and bombing run at once is imporant for the synergy of that doctrine.
The problem, like I mentioned before, is not easily exploitable: You need 200+ munitions just to pull it off, and not only that, its not something you can spam from the mid game. Most offensive airplane powers come late game, with the sole exception of strafing run (which is not the point of this topic, but is broken).
How many games in a row has this happened to you? 1? 3? 5?
Until it has become a real trend, like stug spam, strafe spam and maxim spam, there really is no point in spending resources on it, especially when it is such a situational combo too pull off |
Very well written article, WhiteFlash. Very professional, too.
Hybrids are difficult in CoH, because of the way the resource system works, and its relationship to how units fight over them. In contrast to games like SC2, where multiple bases can be produced, but expansion is necessary, having multiple spots to deploy bases facilitates hybrids.
In CoH, pulling this off is very hard: You could have designed a map where focus on the north, sacrifices VP's on the south or something similar. In 2v2, you have twice the units and twice the resources per side, so covering the entire map becomes viable, which can break the "spirit" of the map (or as the guide puts it, the "Flow")

If they buff the T-34, they need to do it in a way that prevents the T70 from being turned obsolete. The biggest advantage the T70 has, is that it is very inexpensive, so it frees up resources to fork your strategies...
