OP claims that Axis artillery (actually, Panzerwerfer and Walking Stuka, not off-map artillery abilities in general) inflict more TK damage than their Allied counterparts. But is this even true? Because if not, we're voting on an issue that may not even be an issue at all. It is. I've done the research a few times. All allied artillery deals a fraction of the damage as friendly fire compared to the friendly fire values of axis artillery. Grenades are an exception, which deal 50% friendly fire for everyone. The Land Mattress was a unique one that dealt an apparently arbitrary amount of friendly fire in between(ish) the general values for allies and axis. Pretty much if you are allies you can tank artillery barrage after artillery barrage with your units, so there's never a reason to dodge them. Rather it's an incentive to assault into a barrage instead of after it. In: COH2 Balance

Thread: Make Ostheer lategame great again!11 Jul 2016, 15:08 PM Panthers won't dig Ostheer out of a bad situation. However, they are excellent at sealing a victory when the Ostheer player is winning. They do help OKW because they don't get their panther until they also get access to their P4. It's the tank OKW can get out before the KT. It's price and performance, though better, isn't the whole picture. Ostheer has StuGs, as well as the P4, in an earlier tier. I feel that many Ostheer players cripple themselves skipping T3 to get the 'better' T4 tank. Ostheer's Panther is not timed the same way as OKW's, which matters a great deal for Allies players. Not to mention the stock-KT threat of OKW by default requires a different play-style on the part of the Allies. When you know your opponent can't field anything heavier than a Panther due to their loadout, it has significant strategic implications. In: COH2 Balance

If we look at USF tanks and their crews as an example, we're already most of the way there. If penetrating shots and various critical actions applied specific amounts of damage to those crews, you'd have a similar effect. I think there's more than enough resources in the game engine, with things like conscript merge and basic reinforcing mechanics, to handle maintaining those crews. Whether or not these crews can hop out and/or repair their tanks is another story entirely. In: COH2 Gameplay

Grenadiers are most prone to it for two reasons: They are most effective at range, and the weapon that makes them anywhere close to cost efficient requires them to be stationary. Pios, CEs, etc, are all rushing around with flamethrowers. Pgrens and Sturmpios are lugging around schrecks or assaulting positions, and Obers are playing Quake with their LMGs. Grens need to stand still for their LMGer to aim and start firing, which is perfect for mortars. This combined with the tendency to use cover creates the survivability issues of Grens. A lot of people confuse the two. Furthermore, miragefla isn't the only person that put a lot of work and effort into making a mod for CoH2. I mean, manual reloading and noclip territory points are great. But you could also ask why none of the units added in the mod that unlocks all 136 units were added, tested, or patched. In: Lobby

You either gotta go doc for the MT Or have a hero sniper that does enough damage to bleed the enemy. But point is, is OH you MUST or you HAVE to do X otherwise is GG. The funniest part is that OH has the smaller squad sizes yet they so weapon crew reliant. Always having to recrew and insta retreat due to having 1 man left over. Unupgraded halftracks and Ostruppen help with that. The reinforcing halftrack is very important to Ostheer having any sort of field presence. What cripples Ostheer is that even if they win engagements, without a halftrack or command bunker, they are unable to stay on the field unless they are at full strength. At least as SU I can merge some conscripts around to keep a full strength squad or two on the front. Two 3 man gren squads are just waiting to get killed/retreated. If an Ostheer infantry squad other than Ostruppen loses a single member on any unit, they are incapable of recrewing any lost team weapons without sacrificing a squad. IMO, Ostheer team weapons should be like USF vehicles. The squads should be able to abandon their team weapon. So if I recrew that MG42 with my 2man pios, they should be able to decrew it and drop it. (I've been trying to build this mechanic in a mod, but I only have a few hours a week to devote to CoH2.) EFA only works with EFA, WFA only works with WFA, and Brits are . CoH1 and Opposing Fronts unfortunately suffered this exact same issue. They designed and balanced these factions without actually taking into account the existing factions and gameplay. In: Lobby
Thread: OKW Infantry29 Jun 2016, 17:04 PM Obers, regardless of vet, are typically my ticket to getting my units up to vet 3. They are just as much a glass cannon as any other infantry in this game. Except they don't have any AT and hit the field for 400mp at a time when there are almost assuredly tanks. Tanks and artillery give no craps about Obers' received accuracy. Obers always require support to be effective, else they just drop like flies and feed vet. I have only ever feared Obers when I was shitplaying with something like PPSh blobs and floating 500+ fuel. Interestingly enough, Volks and obers now share a similar relationship as ppsh cons and shock troopers. Their roles are mostly the same, with one being more expensive and lacking AT but specialized for AI. (Except the choice isn't doctrinal. ) I foresee even less usage of Obers now that volks have the StG option. This is largely a manpower game, and Obers are not that efficient for when they are timed while needing support from volks fausts and sturms with schrecks. Volks do fill their role well with cover denying nades and new StGs. I see USF LMG blobs being the a situation where Obers might be necessary, but it'd still be so much more efficient to use any sort of vehicle against that. Expensive glass cannons versus cheap glass cannons is pretty clearly lopsided. In: COH2 Balance
