Even if both units have sight on each other, the Stug is still faster. You can win if you have LOS AND you back up prior to the Stug starts moving up. Overall it's a match up decided by RNG mostly (whoever miss probably losses). Penetration means shit, and hits to kill are equal although the Stug has less health. On the same time it takes for the Su85 to do 4 reloads, a Stug makes 5. I'll gladly trade a Stug for an Su85. Most people are scared to do that kind of push. Any kind of veterancy puts the edge on the Stug (TWP, vet2 no longer offers RoF for Su85 and it does on the Stug, vet3 RoF vet is higher on the Stug). Well considering my whole point was that differing circumstances can heavily influence that match-up, more evidence to show that it's not as simple as 'this beats that' is perfectly welcome. The StuG never gets that self spot or range, just as the SU-85's vet is different with penetration having implications for units outside a matchup with a StuG. And while the SU-85 slows down on self spot, I don't think anyone can deny the defensive advantage. They're different units with different costs and function. This is not the same as comparing the differing costs and function of the Panzer 4 or Panthers from Ostheer and OKW. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Volks /grens23 Jun 2016, 17:47 PM The problem with Grens is that, in CoH1 terms, are just 4 man volks squads that can only be upgraded with the LMG that no one ever used. An army based on volks was not a good strategy in CoH1. (You at least needed medic necromancy to turn them into Grens. ) As such, armies based on Grens aren't that strong. I mean, they're balanced with conscripts. Panzergrenadiers would've taken the role of CoH1 grenadiers but they come with StGs already which makes them unreliable at range, which drops the burden back down on Grenadiers. It makes me wish the stats and upgrades of panzergrenadiers and stormtroopers were swapped, save for the camo. I'd gladly pay for StGs if I wasn't always forced to close distances with the squad. Once they got their vet and became a bit more durable I could THEN make them take on an assault role. In: COH2 Balance

SU-85s have range and can self spot. That can just as easily translate to an SU-85 killing a StuG and taking 0 damage. 230 fuel Pershing loses to 175/200 fuel panther. This isn't exactly a good thing. The Pershing has been a lame duck since it was implemented. It's one of, if not the, least cost efficient tank for fighting other tanks. But at least it hurts infantry well and it's still got the range and damage per shot. I don't think that reality gives much weight to the argument. AEC loses to a pair of 222, which cost over 50% less fuel and similar menpower. The 222s are problematic indeed. They got too much health for also getting their 2mm gun. And again, this is a problem in and of itself, which doesn't lend itself well to addressing why or why not OKW fuel costs could/should be adjusted. Your point? I think it is that there's been plenty of adjustments to OKW that their unit costs might warrant a looking at. I think it is a valid point, at least as far as the P4 is concerned. However, it's also worth knowing that all the factions could use a bit of continued adjustments given the amount and kinds of changes this game as seen. (I'm looking at you Ostheer.) In: COH2 Balance
Thread: June 21st Patch Opinion23 Jun 2016, 17:17 PM I'm not sure if the MG34 requiring a tier building to be called in is appropriate with USF getting a t0 mortar. Outside of that, I still think volks should've had an assault grenadier type upgrade package instead of StGs to create some kind of role change for the unit. I also think Obers should've gotten a double schrecks option. Right now OKW gets fausts, schrecks, and an ATG from T0: everything they need in a pinch for handling allied armor. I think it really highlights just how little strategic options there are (still.) In: Lobby

Thread: vCoH Wehrmact units for Ostheer21 Jun 2016, 15:20 PM I wouldn't call it hilarious so much because CoH1 is supposed to be dead. Given its age and the steam migration, 2.6k is a lot. I'm not even sure what happens if you try to install outside of Steam anymore. I'm also pretty sure that when people are talking about CoH2 being 'dead' they're usually indicting Relic for lack of support/development for being the latest game in the series. The playerbase being more evidence to that fact than the case itself. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: panthers reload speed21 Jun 2016, 15:06 PM Panthers without vet suck. Panthers with vet are awesome. I believe it was the same way in vCoH. Only thing about that was if you were playing Wehrmacht and had the fuel to invest, those panthers came with vet. And they worked well against anything that wasn't Armor Company. But then again, Axis armor's bane was Armor Company with those field reps and AWM. D: Although with that being said Panthers may not have a strong niche in 1v1s, but in 3v3 and 4v4s the sheer volume of fuel that axis players gets means its easy to use them to overwhelm the allies. The smaller the game though, the less effective their role is. In: COH2 Balance

Given the argumentative nature of the people involved, I doubt you're going to see any agreement. When people are intentionally fighting over technicalities, they're just flexing nuts.
