If you're going to do something, make Conscripts access SVT-40 rifles with 100 MP (More guys, more rifles, more MP). Higher cost of upgrading will auto-nerf oohrah.
Take away SVT-40 rifles from Penals, give them Mosins, and give them the ability to upgrade to Flamethrowers.
It's ridiculous that essentially suicide cannon fodder are better armed than the main force on the Soviet infantry. |
How should I play OKW? Typically, I like to dive deep, get Tier 1, then get Flak & AT.
Strumpioneers vs Vanilla Conscripts will slaughter them at mid-close range.
Vanilla Volks vs Conscripts will 50-50 Vanilla Conscripts.
Vanilla Volks and Volks STG's will get owned by Vanilla penal squads.
Volks MP40s will own Pensls up close.
Soviet Shock troops will just about own anybody you have at mid-close range except Obersolden with MG34s or STG's.
Against Soviets, try to get a fast Flak halftrack, stick it with an upgraded volks and Rak 38 so you can snare light vehiches and armor, then go Luchs to deal with HMG, Shocks and Light Vehicles.
I typically go Battlegroup for healing as well as the flaktrack. The flaktrack does a way better job at suppressing and killing infantry, but you gotta keep it protected.
I was trying to suppress soviets with MG34's, and it really wasnt working well.
Good luck. |
Thank you for all the replies.
We have opinions ranging from no buff at all, to slight accuracy/suppression/veterancy, to even making it a call in.
I'm still not a fan of the way it is, and would be happy with a slight buff (very slight).
For now, I will learn to live with it. |
I think it might be safe to say one of the tougher things to overcome playing as OKW is trying to counter Soviet infantry troops.
There are just too many of them, then they rush a fast T-70 that puts you in a world of hurt because of the nearly non-existent AT early game.
This isn't a whiner thread. Far from it. I look at it as a problem to be solved.
For me, what seems to work best when I encounter Soviet penals and shocks is to go Heavy Fortifications doctrine and assault a high traffic area, hold with Volks as long as I can while my Strumpioneer builds a Flak Gun. If they do hit that area with Conscripts/Penals/Shocks, they are almost instantly suppressed and get dealt massive damage, forcing a retreat.
The nice thing about the flak gun compared to an MG nest is its 360 degree arc that it can engage in.
Of course, they can always go 120mm mortar or divisional field gun to take your flak gun out, but they had to use resources to build those units, and if a Flak Gun can stall until I can get a Luchs II, or a Puma, or bring Obersoldaten out to the field; I'd say it's done its job. It's also good against light vehicles.
What say you? |
While Obersoldaten are walking slaughterhouses with vet and an MG34 upgrade, the same could not be said of its gun crew counterpart, which cannot suppress effectively, or instill fear into even Conscripts with Oorah and a firebomb.
Finally, you look in horror as a Penal/Shock combo calmly walks up to your MG, touches it with their pinky toe, and your MG team explodes in spectacular fashion.
What I suggest instead of permanently buffing suppression or damage, I suggest a Vet 0 perk that will *temporarily* increase the rate of fire to similar characteristics of an MG-42. It will share the same cooldown as AP rounds. This will allow OKW players with good micromanaging to Snare Conscripts/Shocks/Penals, and let Strumpioneers and Volk STG-44's to close in and cause either unit damage, or force a retreat.
This is somewhat based in reality as early MG-34's had a built in clockwork adjuster to increase rate of fire.
What do you guys think?

Is this doctrine good vs shock troops?
I'm really struggling to find the good counters against the increased power and versatility of these guys.
The Hetzer 38 will eat them for breakfast. Especially if they are suppressed first.
The best way to play the Flammpanzer is not as a tank, but as an infantry support weapon. By itself it'll get creamed, but if you have at least minor support with it, it is a beast. I think it's a better infantry weapon than the Brummbar because the Brummbar has that ridiculous delay between the shell firing and dropping; and it costs way less. |
I know guys are totally in love with Jaeger Light Infantry right now (deservedly so), but I do like playing the Feversturm doctrine, pretty much for the I.e support incini-ammo, as well as the Hetzer 38 Flammenpanzer. I've seen them hurt sim city as well as being a brutal against infantry blobs.
Anyone else use this doctrine for fun? |
Hello there. Been a lurker for awhile, typically play with a group of friends. I usually like to play as the Wehrmacht/OKW, but recently have had a renaissance in spamming Soviet Conscript PPsh's, which doesn't seem to be as potent post-update.
I've been trying to get a playercard on here, but when I try to save it, it won't.
Good to be here. |
