(beancounting logic) The German military was incapable of deep penetrations on a narrow front in 1943-1945. The Panzer Armies, even with local superiority in the initial stages, were incapable of breaking into Soviet operational depths from spring 1943 onward. Unlike in 1942 the Panzer divisions/korps could be stopped with local soviet forces and reserves. An Army that can't attack and only defend: that's called being militarily bankrupt. They couldnt penetrate the Soviets lines because the Soviets out numbered not because soviets had better training or qualitive superiority. Soviets had a quantitative advantage. Isnt there the rule that you should out number your enemy x4 if you are the attaking side, Germans never were in such a situation, since when they attaked at Kursk or try to counter attak they were outnumbered by the soviets, at some section of the fornt soviets outnumbered them 1:20. Mostly because of this post by Sturmhaubitze: Sturmhaubitze: So I extracted the files and had a look to see what they did to the weapon data. New Range - Mid There's a new range called Mid that was added, and it sits between Near and Far. So instead of a single slope between Near and Far, there's now two separate slopes that can have their own values: Near to Mid, and Mid to Far. So this is how the new weapon profiles can be more finely tuned across certain distances. DPS spreadsheets will need to be updated accordingly. Penetration Table Penetration in CoH2 used to be a single number that didn't change over distance. Now it's a table with values for Near, Mid, and Far, similar to CoH1 but now it uses a linear slope between the 3 ranges. Only a few small arms (like the Grenadier MG42) have a change to penetration over distance (1.2 at Near, 1.1 at Mid, and 1 at Far), and I didn't find any tank or anti-tank guns that had any change (i.e. PaK40 is still 170 at all ranges). So this probably means tanks will have diffrent penetraion values at diffrent ranges. Also one of the Relic devs said in thier last interview that the game will becomes more tactical. Tho I hope more tactical deosnt mean every tank will rush into close combat. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: Rifle Grenades5 Apr 2014, 14:33 PM Why cant Grendiers simply use a normal stielgranade instead of a rifle grenade? Never really liked the rifle grenade, Relic tryed too hard to make them unique. Would like to see the rifle grande getting replaced with a stielgrante, cost 25 muniton as powerfull as 1 grande trown by Assaultgreandiers. But since this is not going to happen +1 for not being able to rifle grandes if suppressed. In: COH2 Balance

There are few reasons why the German side had higher kill claims with their tank crews. This makes the German 'aces' more human and less Nazi super soldier. 1. Inflation through Nazi Propaganda. Use of fake kill numbers and 'super soldier' of the week was the Nazi version of celebrity. By emphasizing Luftwaffe Aces, Panzer Aces, and Infanterie aces they could convince their people that Germany had a chance of winning ww2. Question is how many of the kill counts posted by Affe was internal info and how much for propaganda. 2. The soviet way of using tanks was more like artillery ammunition. They had lots of tanks compared to the Germans and could afford to use them this way. The high losses has more due to Soviet aggressiveness rather than German skill or quality of their equipment. They exchanged tank losses for victory. "rather then skill or quality" read your points 3. and 4. again. 3. Defensive stances. Tanks in the defense typically could inflict high tank losses on attackers in WW2 provided that their defense didn't collapse. The Panzers spent most of their time defending. Actually Germans were attaking all the time, only after Kursk (a massive defensive line) 1943 Soviets became more offensive then the Germans 4. Target rich environment and the defensive use of the Tiger Tank. The Tiger Tank simply had armor and gun advantages in the USSR that made it more survivable than other tank destroyers. And why soviets couldnt do the same at the beging of war in the east. When the T34/76 was superior to all German armor gun and armor wise? Probably because german crews had more skill? Overall, German tank crews as a whole weren't particularly skilled compared to veteran Soviet, US or British by 1944. They had less ammuntion and fuel supplys, no air support and still were able to get even/or them favoring tank exange ratios, or not ? Newsreels and Newspaper articles would publicize heroes (knight's cross holders) and their stories. The aces were an important part of Nazi propaganda. The German super soldier is largely a myth. The German Army peaked in 1939-1941. It was still good in 1942 but after that it became more and more incompetent. And soviets did not? for example hero of the soviet union or soviet snipers getting gloryfied like for example female snipers. This is mostly your subjective opioion. In 1943 and 1944 German ground forces were still even or even sligthly better quality wise but not in quantity. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: The reign of SdkfZ 2224 Apr 2014, 20:21 PM Isnt the upgun useless if you want to use the Sdkfz vs infantry? Because as far as I know its the MG that deals all the dmg to infantry, and the MG dmg doesnt changes between the upgunned and normal version. The 20mm gun has a scatter of 10 and an AoE of 1. So it has the same AoE and worse scatter then the SU85. So overall you dont even need the upgun unless you want to base rape some1. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: My take on tank battles4 Apr 2014, 19:23 PM As Crecer said went through the war from beginning to end, the war on the eastern fornt alone was fougth for something like 1400 days, which means thats pretty much possible to destroying 168 tanks is possible. The Western allies send their best aces to use them as instruktors, Germans not. As German tanks were known for their accurate and powerfull guns, Tigers had no problems to knock out any of the allied tanks at long ranges besides IS-2 and Pershings. So overall its same with the Soviet snipes that had high kill counts because they could stay at save distance and take out the opponents without getting into much danger themself. In: COH2 Gameplay

The German army very immobile compared to the allies and less mobile than even the Soviets. They concentrated their equipment in the top 20% (mobile units) and even these were still not as well equipped as the allies. Both panzer and pzG formations tend to be far below TOE and have around half as many tanks even at full strength and less artillery support than the allies/soviets typically. Most panzer divisions only had 100 tanks or so after refitting and were kept in the field until almost everything was gone. They only significant material advantage they had vs. the Allies was their good guns (pak, panzer,etc.) The Soviet mobile formations (tank army, tank corps, mechanized corps) tend to revolve on a much different doctrine. They were very strong in tanks, total infantry, and artillery compared to the Germans but weaker in motorized infantry, communications, and supporting assets. ---------------- I've always felt that the design for the British should be Germans. With the new expansion pack, I wouldn't be surprised if the Oberkommando West was a bit like the British vcoh. Wtf? How can you say soviets are more mobile but write in the same sentence that they had less mechnized infantry. Germans did build 20.000 Sdkfz 251 and 250. Soviets only had around 3.000 lend lease halftrucks. The German army wasnt static at all they were the most offensive of all the armys in ww2. They rareley build defensive positions (tho they had knowlage how to build them because of ww2) but they mostly relied on counter attaks. Their overall german unit were much more flexible and able to support diffrent sections of the fornt, while soviets relied on massive attaks. Also we should forget that some of the most know battles of ww2, like the Battle of the Bulge and kursk were german Counter-offensives, not Western allies or Soviets assulting massive defensive lines/positions. In some regards its silly that soviets arent able to build bunkers but Ostheer is. Back on topic, would be nice if they would have talked a little bit more about the teching or the mechanics of the new factions. In: Lobby
Thread: Making Soviets more Soviety30 Mar 2014, 10:02 AM Germans KAR 98 now uses the bolt-action rifle weapon profile MP40 now uses the submachine gun weapon profile MP44 now uses the assault rifle weapon profile G43 now uses the carbine rifle weapon profile Soviets Mosin Nagant now uses the bolt-action rifle weapon profile SVT now uses the carbine rifle weapon profile PPSH now uses the submachine gun weapon profile Well it seems some weapon profiles arent aplied correctly. If you watch the chart MP40 seems to share the assault rifle profile with the MP44 and not the sub machine gun profile with the PPSH. Same with the G43 which seems to use the bolt action rifle profile and not the SVT carbine weapon profile. Tho the hot fix changed the weapon profiles of the SVT and PPSH. In: COH2 Balance
