Well if we were to stoop to wiki it suggests that 50,000 Sherman’s were built upto 1946 and about 1500 tigers. Obviously the Sherman’s were probably being built before (and after) tiger production but even so...
I am confused by you saying that you hadn’t heard of a British force going to help at Villers-bocage. Is this because you didn’t think the British fought there or that you just not aware of the action in the following days?
A good account here: http://www.desertrats.org.uk/battles1944.htm
I never heard about the force going to help there. |
I haven’t the figures but I the ratio of Sherman’s to tigers produced was a lot more than that (maybe on a like for like time basis when tigers were being made) RE Villers-Bocage, it is never mentioned that the following day the British tank divisions inflicted significant losses in turn on the Germans and held the salient. However their supporting infantry division was unable to reach them to provide support and protection from infiltrating axis infantry so their commanders ordered them to withdraw.
I hope that somebody has an answer on the production rate.
As for the battle of Villers-Bocage, every side has its own biased point of view. And indeed, i never heard of a British force going to help in this battle |
All of you didn't mention one thing while comparing the Sherman to Panthers/Tigers and other German tanks.
Those tanks had different roles. At the beginning, the first Shermans were supposed to support infantry. It wasn't called a tank. It was called "Infantry Support Vehicle". It is easy to understand why it couldn't challenge the enemy's armor.
On the production rate, as i have read, Americans were producing 4 Shermans for each Tiger tank the Germans made.
Sherman's armor was probably its speed (like the M10 and the Jackson). All these tanks (although different roles in battle) had sacrificed their protection for speed.
A small source about the Tiger, regarding the battle of Villers-Bocage :
Επί αρκετές ημέρες μετά τη μάχη, ακόμη και η θέα γερμανικού άρματος προκαλούσε πανικό στους Βρετανούς, οι οποίοι κατέληξαν σε έναν γενικό, εμπειρικό κανόνα: "Εάν υπάρχει αναφορά για την παρουσία ενός Tiger, πρέπει να στείλεις πέντε Sherman, υπολογίζοντας να χάσεις τα τέσσερα."
Translation (since it's in Greek) : Many days after this battle, even seeing this german tank, British were panicked. This made them create a general, empirical rule : "If there is a report for a Tiger nearby, you need to send 5 Shermans, and expect losing 4 of them" |
Is it true that they disabled the smoke grenade ability from the Riflemen Squads (USF) and added the ability to the Rear Echelon Troops? I searched every official CoH2 announcements, but found nothing. If it's true, why did they change that? |
USF infantry is anything but weak. Equip Riflemen with BARs and Bazookas and nothing can stand against them. Take Cavarly riflemen, upgrade them with LMG (plus default Thompson) and they are killing machines. I am very impressed by their combat abilities and versatility. |
You probably don't want to build more than 1 or 2 caches. The manpower investment will likely hold you back from holding other territory.
While caches may get you more income, they don't slow down your opponents. Slowing your opponents resource income is one of your main objectives.
If there I'd a territory point you know isn't going to be attacked, (map dependent ) then that is a good candidate for a cache. Losing a cache is like losing a squad: it is a major loss. You don't want them in harms way.
As far as fuel or muni goes? That depends on what you and your team need. If you're playing randoms, fuels probably better. Go for munis if you and your team have got a plan for the munis. (Recon/flare and skill plane/bombing runs, etc.)
I guess 2 caches are enough if i also have good map control, right? |
I play with USF. My question was about the following :
I start the game, i capture 8 sectors for example. Should i build 6 munition and 2 fuel caches, 6 fuel and 2 munitions or go for 8 fuel or 8 munition?
Regarding the gamemode, i play team games because i can't really play 1v1 (although i have good multitasking skills, i lose track of important stuff and events).
Finally, in the cut-off sectors i put static defenses (tank traps and barbed wire and maybe some mines) |
I recently started playing CoH2 (i'm coming from CoH1, and in general, i'm a bad / decent player). I was curious on how the rest of you prioritize resource production. I mean, would you go for full munitions, full fuel or 50-50? I usually go 50-50, but i wanted to hear from you if it's good enough to prioritize one of the two resources and the pros and cons of each tactic. |
Jacksons can work well with AT guns. I don't remember how it's called, but AT guns have an ability to extend their sight range. Putting 1-2 AT guns on the front and keeping Jacksons some meters behind can be very good to outrange enemy armor. And in order to be more effective, plant some anti tank mines on the ground. If the enemy decides to attack with only a tank, you can take it out pretty quick. It will step on a mine, get immobilized and then your Jacksons take action.
