Won´t happen.

It doesn't matter what Relic or Sega do to improve CoH1. The damage is already done. I was an CoH1 enthusiast for years. Then the Steam micronation happened and after some months i did what a lot of people did: i stopped playing.

Too many players left (just look at the experts, they are all gone) and the community is nearly death (no discussion, no events, no entertaining replays, no casts).

The only way to attract more people would be a new Addon. And there won´t be a new Addon. The golden age is over and will never come back. The truth is CoH1 is dying since the steam migration. It's not death yet but things will turn to the worse. Day by day.

PE HT's pathing is fine - you just have to think a step forward to controll them and be more carefull

"you just have to think a step forward" is one of the best euphemism for "the PE HT's pathing is crap, you have to be way more carefull and invest more micro if you want to use it then you have to invest into other units micro" i have ever read.

You know there is one thing the CoH2 fans are right about. CoH1 players tend to glorify everything about CoH1 to a point CoH1 looks flawless.

Some CoH1 vehicles have a excellent pathing (PE Panthers for example) on the other hand some vehicles pathing is just unacceptable (PE HTs).

CoH2 has the edge over CoH 1 in matters of vehicle pathing. There are some small improvements and the pathing is more or less even no matter what vehicle you look at. This equality is a huge improvement.

Still, in my point of view the reverse button means to give up in the face of the pathing problems. They weren't able to find a solution so they bypass the issue by including the reverse button and call this a great new feature.

Well that´s something i guess. Thanks. :-)

But what about the patching process. Is there a chance to include some of the Elite Mod Bug fixes into the game with this (or the next) patch? The solution is there, even the data file. All Smoking Gun would need to do is add the files. It would make a lot of people happy if bugs like the Stag MG oder the M10 miss fire bug would be fixed.

Any chance here?

Let's simulate the actual result of your HD idea as a brief 1 act play I wrote.

Relic: Hey we've applied some balance fixes and new HD graphics to vCoH and you can buy it now for $30! Great news!

Community: So you fixed a few bugs that you should have fixed five years ago and took the community's balance suggestions and are charging $30 for it? Relic sucks. SEGA sucks. You suck. Fire Noun he's a dirtbag!

Relic: But new graphics.

Community: We don't care about graphics, these new graphics aren't as good as the old ones. The graphics make the game run slower on my machine.

Relic: But you asked for this.

Community: Nobody asked to pay $30 for a game we already own.

Even if everyone on COH2.ORG loved it and bought 10 copies we'd still be hundreds of thousands of copies short of even breaking even on something like this.

So no HD Version, thats ok.

As a community manager you should be well aware of the simple fact that people will always complain, no matter what you do. People are different. Something which makes person a happy offends person b. Plus happy people tend to be just happy. The don´t tell you how happy they are. Angry people will.

So it´s part of your job.

Btw if we are at it, still no Relic / Sega presence in the germany community at all since Hardy is gone. :-)

We feel that it's better to support our current players who already bought CoH, rather than to close it and try to make them buy CoH 2015.

Don´t get me wrong it´s cool Sega saved the game with the Steam migration and you guys still do something but there is a sour aftertaste. The technical issues which appeared after the Steam migration are self made. And 2 years after they are still there.

It feels like "oh another year passed, seems like we have to fix some of the bugs we have caused to keep people quite".

And from my perspective "support our current players" means in game bug fix and maybe even balance changes. It´s okay for me if we have to wait on year for a patch (testing balance changes needs a lot of time anyway) but please, patch something which is actually useful and which the people demand.

a) We're going to continue to support CoH. We spent a considerable amount of money to move it to the Steamworks and Battle Servers and we wouldn't have done that if we were just going to close it. We continue to sell the game and we continue to support it.

Support won't be as frequent as a new game, but we're keeping it alive and viable as long as people keep playing.

Nice to hear. I don´t assume we can get more details about this?

b) We have an update in the works that improves some of the technical issues that still exist. It's not going to fix everything, but it's forward motion. Look for that this week.

The technical side is, from my point of view, more or less ok. Not as good as in the pre Steam era but ok.

I´d like to see the money invest for a in game bug fix patch (as big chances don´t seem to be an option). Using the Elite Mod concepts or even the data itself would be an option. This should cut costs. I also think some new bugs appeared since the last patches. For example the Pak 38 wasting the camo shoot at infantry.

Would be cool.

But tbh i think CoH1 needs more then a small Update to become a really good game. Don´t get me wrong, it´s already great and i played it for years but there are also thinks which i think are problematic.

This is what would make CoH a really good game:
- bug fix (obvious)
- add more good & balanced maps (the most aren´t that good at the moment)
- small balance adjustments regarding the US vs HW gameplay (snipers for example are way too dominant atm)
- OF Faction re design (PE is more or less ok but the british.. just boring to play and to play against)

The current version is done by Smoking Gun. They did the work to transition the game to its new servers.

Besides that we are all well aware who made the last CoH1 patches.

I don't think there's much reason for an HD CoH. I still think the original game looks just as good as CoH2.

HD not in the strict sense of the word. HD means bug fix and maybe balance changes. Not new Graphics.

There are still some Steam Version bugs. I would pay for a HD version. Even 50 bugs.

I haven't played CoH1 in ages. What's it like now? Are there still plenty of players? Is everyone that plays now a vet that whoop someone just trying to get back into it?

Not that many. You get a game but it´s getting harder.

Depends what vet means. The most really good players left. You meet many low and mid skill players today.

Am not sure which boni are cumulative but if we assume all are you would get something like this:

status boni income

default sector - 16
truck set up 80% 28,8
secured resourcing active 80% 51,84

improved command vehicles active 100% 93,312
resource command bonus active 80% 167,96

Note:
Improved Command Vehicles generates +5 additional ammo.

As far as i know at least Improved Command Vehicles and Secured Resourcing are cumulative. But not sure about the Captain´s boni.
