Does target attack (the normal attack, click on target) require personal LOS to target?

Example: Enemy wants to attack my frontline with a tank, i drop smoke barrage on my own pak, to hide it from enemy fire. Normally, pak couldn't see the attacking enemy but if i use spotters? Can the pak directly attack the assaulting tank?

This might need some looking into...

And since most smoke barrage abilities take a few seconds to actually arrive and conceal, i guess they're more useful in offensive uses than in defense. The tank tactician smoke canisters on tanks is immediate, so that's most useful in saving tanks under attack...


And one more idea for use: I managed to smuggle a hidden sniper over a open crossroad, where he would have lost the camouflage. The stuka smokedrop could be used to smuggle a sniper or other hidden ninjas over a longer distance. For creating nasty ambushes or to spot enemy positions. Both in best cases.

The thing with ostheer is that you generally use smoke to close distance and ostheer performs best at long range.

Unless you close the distance to throw a Bundled grenade on trench. Or with flame pioneers. Or just plain assault, DPS and range is not everything in every situation.

All depends on situation, and map and about thousand other factors, but with a little creativity and luck, the smokes can become very useful, while not that destructive tool.

After all I have found artillery pieces to be more bleed tool than pressure tool because you spend lot of resouces to get them, meaning you will have less infantry and tanks (if you go stuka) and so you will likely lose some portion of map. Artillery will pay for itself in long run though.

Totally correct. Maybe the Stukazufuss is too expensive. LeiGs are fairly cheap though, only MP required, right? And original question was how to keep the pressure up during midgame, until we're ready to roll out the heavy stuff. I think arty of some sort is most obvious answer.

I see a lot of posts with topic 'how to counter this 'n that' and i got the feeling that when OKW starts reacting, an important part of the battle may already be lost. How i see it, OKW is higly mobile, doesn't have many options to dig in and hold the ground. It is best used when the troops are moving, causing chaos, decapping and denying enemy from digging in.

Main point is: with OKW you should be and stay aggressive, use troops actively, stay on map, force the enemy to react to your actions, then change the way you play, stay unpredictable. This buys time for OKW to actually tech up and get all the nice shiny things they require.

And when the time is right, just roll in with the big king kitty, and put them out of their misery.

This is just an opinion. OKW is more suited to aggressive mobile playstyle, than Ostheer.

Ping your buddies, quick chat msg "Attak here in 2 min" or "recon here pls" will make a HUUUUUGE difference.

If you have a strategy, but your mate is not helping, it's a bad plan. Keep in mind, he/she/it/apache attack helicopter might have a masterplan of his own and you're not helping, but then appearently it's his fault for not telling you. Team game requires teamwork

..of course, you just could get the krappy random returd as a team member. But that happens to all of us who play with random ppl.

No strategy book or guide can help you after the first contact with the enemy. Build orders, strategies, plans... It all goes down the drain, if you mess up with your units and get them killed. Strategy is one thing, tactics is another. And then the teamwork above it all.

well yeah, true.

I was not thinking clearly, perhaps safer way is to just shell the minefields with mortar, if you know it's there.

But it seems that smokes are not commonly used. Maybe it could be used sometimes to trick enemy into using costly sector artilleries in a panic move. Maybe using smoke could just add confusion into enemy lines? It's so rarely used, that using it could really mess up someones planning.
