The main problem of LM/Calliope is that it cancel the defensive playstyle of axis, specially OST.
OST by desing is a defensive faction, is not very mobile, that relies too much on his MG42, mortar and PAK. That kind of arty set to ground that playstryle. |
In this order:
1. It should cost a lot more FU (all other arty in the game cost 80 or more. LM only 40!!).
2. Less rockets fired.
3. Less damage.
4. Only one per time (this can be done to other artys aswell.) |
You have to keep in mind that the land mattress shoots its rockets against Germans which have a very different play style in order to keep themselves in the game in comparison to the Allies.
USF and SOV are front line factions that have good/large squads that deal good damage which is needed against the superior German MG42. They have fast and mobile tanks that can move to different parts of the map very fast. UKF is very static but has brace to stand against Panzerwerfers and Stuka zu Fuß.
Germans (especially) Ost rely on their superior weapon teams. The PaK40 is the best PaK in the game, the MG42 is the best MG (on par with the Vickers IMO). These both units are the backbone of the German forces and a Land Mattress simply roasts them with a single barrage. You kill the two PaKs the Ost player has and the chance is high that he can't do anything against your tanks, because the P4 is weaker than your Cromwell and the StuG is easily circled without PaK support. Panther comes too late. The huge area of effect and the many rockets of the LM makes it hard to miss the support weapons.
OKW on the other hand suffers in general against UKF because it was designed to be a faction that has its headquarters on the front. With an OKW medic HQ, which is needed against UKF in team games because of LeIGs to fight all the Allied artillery stuff, it is easy to wipe whole squads as UKF if you know where the HQ is positioned. The land mattress denies one of the core mechanics OKW has.
Artillery currently is way too strong. The only artillery pieces balanced are the German mortar and the russian small one IMO. LeFH and the russian one (including B4 which nobody uses) are also okay because they fire huge shells slowly in a large area.
Panzerwerfer and Stuka at least are halftracks that die to a single tank shot (just like the katy). But the Calliope is a tank that does not require any teching and has the armor of a M4 Sherman, meaning it takes about 4 to 5 shots in order to kill it, which you won't achieve unless you have a huge tank army which means you would win the game either way.

Landmatress and Caliope are ruining the game. I think that these are pay2win units. Zero skill units that easylly can win games for you with no effort.

I think this kind of arty and explotion damage should be rethinked and rebuilded.
If a unit is in green cover, it should receive far less damage from artys and explotions than if he is in normal or red cover. |
I think that AT granades are not working as expected.
They damage the engine of medium and heavy tanks with only a small porcentage of health taken (maybe 5 or 10%). Not 25% as it is mentioned in update notes or forums.
I hope you guys fix it in WBP.

i've stopped trying to play competitively in any way. even in 2v2 my friend and I would get it every few games or so. just fairly randomly. i just play 4s now because crashing out doesn't really matter. i was rank 15 okw in 3v3 randoms. crashes brought me to over 300. relic just doesn't care about this game. as great as it is, and as great as a game they made. they just don't. its pretty clear. letting the community make balance decisions and clearly not testing patches before they release them. 100 man echelon squads, machine gun speed firing mortars, 5 flamethrower squads, the list goes on. only took us 1 game to find these bugs. it just sucks cause this is one of the best RTS out there right now. Starcraft 2 has become a hard counter annoying joke. and wargame red dragon has a player base of like 500 people. they have been getting bugsplat feedback from the bug reporter for years now. any other game developer would have fixed it by now. and yes my rig, just like most others experiencing the crashes is just fine. 5820k, 980SLI, 16gb ram, SSD, etc. +1000 |
The thing with OST is very simple. OST will never be balanced until they get:
1) a decent 5men infantry squad as a mainline unit. We all know that is very hard to cap points with grens cause all of the explotion damages, tanks, mortar and specially arty.
2) a decent light tank (not a scout car assuming the role of a tank). This light tank role can be assumed by the Puma (as a stock unit) or a Panzer III (early versions). |
