Hehe, I was about to post some similar idea myself.
Certainly agree, right now, they are in an incredebily stupid spot, when they either provide an amazing base rape, or nothing. |

I put this in balance but I'm more just wanting to have a discussion than actually move towards asking for changes or anything like that.
Theoretically, mortars (and other mortar-y like indirect fire options) are meant to counter static play right? Or at least work in tandem with hmgs to suppress and then shell helpless infantry. So why are most of them (poor soviets) so freaking good at killing lots and lots of mainline infantry just on autofire? I think the worst offenders are of course the mortar pit (the worst the worst) and ostheer mortar, as they are both really accurate with a relatively high rate of fire (or really high for the pit) on autofire, but other options are still very lethal as well.
On top of this, they don't really require a lot of micro to kill stuff unless you're actually using them in their intended role, countering static play and other indirect fire, since most of them (rip usf) have pretty long autofire ranges and will usually be able to shell infantry on the front lines while still being very safe from said infantry.
I just kind of want to hear other people's views on these points, I'm not going on a witch hunt to nerf all indirect fire.
I pretty much agree, especially anoying is that they work very well against moving targets as well...
Exception is the Soviet one, which is a pure trash |
Considering the speed of UKF teching, I don´t see their need of a snare other than the sniper snare.
They certainly dont outtech the luchs, which arrives way before they can get an AEC, and getting the sniper to vet 1 in that time is purely impossible, assuming that you make at least 1 RE squad and 3 T1 units before calling him in... and then, it can run circles around the AT gun. A snare that works exclusively against light vehicles would solve this just fine |
Definitely good ideas, only the Brit snare should maybe be exclusively anti-luchs/222, since else, it might mess up a late-game balance
Also, wehrmachts Pak gun comin in their T1 would allow for more tactical creativity as well

M8 Scott is actually pretty good if you dont offend RNG Gods
But it just isnt worth playing as USF in teamgames.
A faction designed solely for flanking and pushes, based on its mainline infantry is guaranteed to not be viable in 3vs3
Some balance tweaks might make them remotely useful in 2vs2s, but now, they just suck |
If you are playing as Soviets, always sniper
As Brits, it is more situation dependant, sniper against player who dont blob and use cover, or against Leig spammer, mortar against the opposite |
Hell yeah, would really be a lot funnier to use, than just a normal one |
If you still want to play with entrenched mortars that's also fine: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=679152285
Thing is if this was implemented most of the British players that want mobile mortars would be also covered.
If you want to continue like until now you're free to do that as well.
Awesome idea, would be way more fun to play with |

I know in the Poll are Both moscau, Hamlet and Across the Rhein missing.
There is a Reason. So pls do your 3 Votes in each poll 1.
(Because i think its not possible that people have more Votes for a poll on this forum)
Hamlet is not even in the automatch. As for Moscow outskirts and Rhein, these should have been either gone or reworked a long time ago
Hamlet is in automatch!
