Stormtroopers are supposed to decap a point in conjunction with the decap stuka and have Close the Pocket wipe the map of your opponent. They aren't meant to pop out amidst combat and decrew a few ATGs or mortars.

Stormtroopers were designed specifically around the Encirclement commander. Utilizing them outside of scope of that commander (until they're in more commanders) is probably going to be ineffective.

But they aren't so expensive to reinforce, which is nice. If anything access to an LMG42 as an alternative to the STGs would be equally enjoyable for the unit.

Probably be too much though.

Seeing as how they are supposed to be used in conjunction with tanks, and stuka bombs to use an ability powerful enough to literally kill every unit on the opposing side...they are fine. They give AT support or assault/ambush support.

Also, since it has come up somewhere else in this thread, stormtroopers are not shock troops, they are more like infiltration soldiers that carry out sneaky raids, despite what their name implies.

You can't straight up compare them like that. They are used completely differently, and fit into the doctrines very differently. They both pop out of buildings, but beyond that you shouldn't be using them the same. Storms sneak, decap and raid, then retreat to be refitted as useful infantry. Partisans ambush and are expended.

Storms also got buffed, and in a way that is meant to encourage their use as more than a quick shock.

If I may shed some light here.

The main benefit of the unit isn't to spring them out of a building and then upgrade them and wait. You should be using these units for stealth capping behind the lines etc. Or trying to activate a close the pocket ability. The upgrades are really something that should be upgraded after their initial entrance to the battlefield.

I would actually recommend if you are planning on high dps running units you should use Panzer Grenadiers. The Stormtroopers are really just an advanced capping and stealth unit which can benefit you later of if you can afford upgrade and abilities.

Have you ever seen an M5 kill a Luchs? No, you haven't, because it can't pen that. A T70 on the other hand will, and yes I see T70s wipe squads within the first 4 shots all the time. ESPECIALLY if the T70 has gotten to vet 2, at that point it becomes a terror.

Again, just about all Axis AT will kill the M5 in 2 shots. You will have enough time to faust it, if your pak is supported well that will spell instant death for the M5. If the M5 flanks the pak, then 3 fausts will kill it, 2 will force it to retreat (heck even one probably will). It has no armor and takes damage from small arms. Hell, driving it through S mines can reduce it to half health.

Seriously, quit whining that it has offensive firepower. The Allies, Americans in particular, are hugely reliant on light vehicles to secure map advantage in order to delay superior Axis armor. Without great lights, winning as Allies becomes nigh impossible against an Axis player with half a brain.
